As Ethna nervously peeked around the edge of the large trash bin, she spotted the dog she had heard approaching. He was a large German Shepherd, his thick pelt a lovely golden brown with black markings ticked throughout his fur and few white markings that accented his coat. He had large, pointed ears, a black nose and deep hazel eyes. But, he wasn't a pet, that much she could tell. He had an aura of dominance surrounding him and he seemed too rugged to have owners of his own. She had heard of strays, but they way they were portrayed, she expected a skinny mutt with patchy fur and flies swarming around it, not some capable dog with an air of superiority to them.

Ethna snapped out of her thoughts when the male's gaze fell on to her cowering form and his ears pinned back as he growled out a demand. "Come out." Deciding she had nothing to lose, since he had lost it all when that white truck drove away without her, she padded out of the shadows, shoulders hunched and tail lowered to the damp, concrete ground and her head sagged. She looked up at the male with her deep, brown eyes and awaited his next words. But, before they came she had an idea. He was a stray, she could tell by many factors, especially the lack of human scent on his pelt, and strays knew their way around the town. She was lost now, she wouldn't even be able to return to her house, so she decided to give it a go and try and ask this intimidating male for help. She met the male's gaze with a pleading look swimming in her red-hued orbs, "I-I don't suppose you've seen a white truck drive past. Maybe carrying another dog like me in the trunk?" she asked in a weak voice, letting a flicker of hope fill up her eyes.

jackal waited a bit impatiently for the creature to reveal itself, a huff escaping from the shepherd. his eyes watched closely as the other dog came out from behind it's cover, head tilting. this dog was certainly not a stray, he could tell that much. her coat was much too sleek, well cared for. she had a decent amount of meat on her bones, unlike some of his "pack" who were borderlining underweight. and the way she carried herself showed she had no idea what she was doing in a place like this. as her eyes revealed hope, he sighed softly, as if he were expecting what was coming. at her question, the dog shook his head in response.

"i don't go close to the streets. that's asking for danger," he stated calmly, turning now that he realized this dog seemed un-threatening, and began to nose nearby garbage cans, sniffing for any detection of food. he had mouths to feed. his head turned,cocking to the side as he thought. "sounds like your human left you." he finally spoke in a blunt tone, not one to sugarcoat things. he pulled out half of a hamburger from a bag tossed lazily on the ground, eagerly downing the meal in a quick fashion.

Ethna visibly deflated as the male stray shook his head. Her legs were trembling and her heart beating roughly against her chest. They can't be gone. They can't be gone. I can't lose Fergus and my owners and.. a-and everything! she thought, causing another wave of panic to engulf her. She flicked her gaze towards the German Shepherd when he spoke and her ears drooped. She stood there, frozen on the concrete, paw pads stinging and body shaking furiously. She watched the male numbly as he seemed to shake her off and began to nose through the trash that sat, pressed up, on the sides of the alleyway.

When he spoke again, his voice was blunt, sharp and quick. No compassion, no worry laced his tone. And Ethna realized that he didn't care for her or her situation. She swallowed past the lump in her throat, wrinkling her nose when the male wolfed down a half of an old burger. She took a half a step backwards and shook her head furiously, "No, no. They would never leave me behind. It was a mistake, it wasn't even them. It was a different human and he must've thought I was already in my crate because he drove off with it while I was still waiting in the backyard," she replied quickly, shaking her head slowly as she spoke, her silky ears pulled back, "A-and he took Fergus," and said the next part in a whisper, like she was no longer talking to the stranger, but herself, "He knew I wasn't there, he was clawing at his cage and I just ran after them, he would never leave me, he was calling for me, b-but I couldn't keep up," she whispered weakly. Suddenly, though, she got an idea, "Oh! They'll realize I'm not there when the truck arrives with my empty crate at the new house. Then, they'll come back for me!" she said, trying to lift her spirits. She looked towards the male again, "I just don't know how to get back, could you help me, maybe, find my house? And then I'll leave you alone!" she exclaimed.

( I thought that maybe he could help her find her way back to her house and then leave her there, but she waits for a day or two and no one shows up, then maybe she can go and find Jackal again?? )
