The rhythmic thumping of his deafening heart beat in his ear was the last thing he could remember as the world around him faded to caliginosity. A pain resonated in the side of his neck, burning with an incessant fire, and he placed a hand over the spot. There was nothing about the event he could remember, as far as he knew he was robbed, or something along those lines. Maybe it was his subconscious blocking out the possibility of something much worse happening to him, but he'd take the thought of being robbed over anything else, without complaint. Or maybe he was dead, and the darkness was the unending depths of the life after, but perhaps he was being dramatic.
Vernon sat up, having to pull every single pound of his body off the ground, and groaned as effulgent light blinded him, forcing him to throw up an arm over his face to block his eyes. Initially, his first thought was to be sullen, but the feeling quickly faded to unease as he realized that he had no idea where he was. It was a room, that much he knew, but it was certainly not familiar ground to him by any means. The first thing he noticed was a scorching feeling in his throat, like he hadn't drank anything in days. He opened his mouth to speak, but was paralyzed by the pain of his throat, closing his eyes for a moment. "Hello?" His voice was rough, like two pieces of sandpaper rubbing together as he spoke, his eyes fluttering open once again.
