milena tossed and turned on the hard ground of the forest, attempting to find sleep. ultimately
failing, she raised herself to her paws, shaking out her pure white fur of any dirt and organisms
of the woods. stretching out her long, lean limbs, she huffed and felt the crisp air of the night
whoosh through her lungs, earning a tremble of her body. as quietly as she could manage, she
padded over to where rowan peacefully lay, nudging his face with the pad of her paw.

ＶＥＲＯＮＩＣＡ ． "i've always liked to play with fire"

xxxxxxxxi stretch my haunches, maw opening to reveal a set of bloodstained ivories. growling slightly as i'm arisen by unwanted nightmares. my thorns shift, attentive and alert. oculars sweeping the darkened area. intaking the scent of fellow canines, which are all seemingly awake. until i catch milena up and about, silently padding over to rowan, who's fast asleep. i observe the two a moment longer, then maneuver my attention towards noah. i knew milena had developed feelings for rowan, as it was rather obvious. what a waste. love was a lie. i couldn't get that through the feebleminded girl's head. not like it matters, i proceed to push myself up, treads kicking at the rough terrain as i do so. my gaze locked on the stretch of woods just beyond the circus tent.
xxxxxxxwithout a moment of hesitation, i take off. treads recklessly pounding the ground, thorns pinned against my cranium. eager to escape. i glanced behind me to make sure nobody was following. once on the dirt path shadowed by outstretched trees and greenery, my pace slows. now a wary but tranquil walk.

xxxxxxxxi look up at the slim, but beautiful, figure of milena. smiling slightly at her as she nuzzles me. "hello," i murmur sleepily, looking up at her through half-closed oculars. "why are you awake?" i inquire, my maw parting and emitting a powerful yawn. emphasizing my exhaustion from the past day of endless trekking. looking past her shoulder and observing the fact that veronica had, notably, been gone. i wasn't all that surprised, she'd always preferred working alone. plus, all of us were too familiar with her screams of terror and distress. "where'd veronica go?" i add, relocating myself so i'm capable of sitting upright.
xxxxxxx"surprised she didn't sneak away with noah," i whisper with a light chuckle. knowing how much she hated me for poking fun at her when it came to him.

milena watched rowan with tired eyes, her ears flattening at his inquiry. stuttering
a little, she opened her maw. "i just.. couldn't sleep," she said, a sheepish expression
crossing her timid features. she shifted on her paws uneasily as he fully woke up from
his sleep. lightly giggling at his jab at veronica and noah, she murmured, "i saw her
stirring before i came over here. she had her sights set on the forest," millie muttered,
still cautious with how high her voice went.

"she's always been somewhat peculiar," i add afterward, casting a glance at the forest. standing up, i carefully walk over to noah, pawing at him in hopes of waking him from his slumber. "noah, wake up," i sigh. "milena, wanna help?" i ask, peering over my shoulder. catching her quickly considering her pure white coat stood out against the darkness.
