The damage that had been done to the horse was unknown to him but it was all going as he expected until the mare took a look at her cards and pulled an ace, an open gate where the only thing between her and freedom was a person. A person who she had most likely trusted greatly in one part of her life but now didn't feel safe around any more. Without thinking, Brett moved quickly infront of the opening and the girl, moving his arms out the his side and waving them up and down "Get." he growled in a deep voiced as the horse continued her path. He used his body language to deter the horse, staring her down with two eye and a bigger body language was something that often turned a prey animal such a horse off their path, it had worked before but sometimes a horse was bolder than it seemed, he took a step forward to validate his position and show dominance over the mare, hoping she would give in to the pressure off a much larger person that the girl.

Noticing the mare had been charging at her, she planted herself on the other side of the fence. She didn't blame the mare for accusing her of the accident. But deep inside, she knew the accident wasn't her fault. It wasn't anyone's fault. Scarlett was grateful for the large wall around the pen, knowing that the mare could easily jump any fence that was even just at a slightly high height. She observed the mare for a few minutes, before turning her back to the pen. It hurt her to see her beloved mare in this state.

The buckskin mare stopped abruptly, sliding to a stop. Doing a quick 180 turn, she kicked out a few times behind her, before restlessly cantering back in circles around the arena. Her ears stayed, as if stuck with glue, to her neck, and she refused to open up to any of the humans. She had had enough of them. Her buckskin pelt was full of dust, and her mane and tail were both tangled. She looked a right mess for a show horse, but no one had been allowed to touch her without getting harshly threatened.

It didn't surprise him when the horse did exactly what he expected, he had established some sort of dominance over the mare and that was what he needed for the horse to trust him. A horse will always trust their leader and he found it important to establish that pecking order quickly when meeting a new horse. "What's the history with this horse?" he asked the girl as left the pen, he needed to know what had happened in order to get the horse on he float so they could take her back home. He didn't want to work with it. It was simple, after the accident he had swore to himself that he would never do it again. "Disrespectful and fearful, bad combination." he muttered the observation quietly to himself, any horse willing to pin it's ears at him needed a major attitude adjustment in his opinion.

“I got her 4 years ago from an auction. She was supposed to go to slaughter. She’s had at least several dozen owners before me, so I had beforehand decided that with me would be her forever home. It was tough because she did the exact same thing to me in the start as she had done to everyone else. She’s buck, rear, bite, everything. One day, it was like we came to understand each other. She was tired of humans bossing her around, and I just needed a friend. We became inseparable and started training for the Olympics, where we’re supposed to be heading. But we swerved and crashed into a tree. It wasn’t my fault. But she was the one furthest in the lorry so she got the most damage. The other horses were shaken up but otherwise okay. She was trapped for a while as we couldn’t get her out, before we cut the barrier over. She’s been like this since. It’s like she doesn’t know who I am anymore, no, like she hates me,” Scarlett explained, keeping her eyes on the ground.
Coach had parked the lorry a little further forward and had gotten out, but stood speaking to someone on the phone.

The mare had plenty of energy and recklessly sped around. Standing still the lorry for a while, and then getting trapped, had resulted in a high Adrenalin rush in her, which didn’t seem to fade off. There had been talks of getting her sedated, but even if that was the case, she’d most likely stay the same when she woke up after.
The mare charged towards the gate at full speed, ready to clear the fence.

Even though the young man listened closely to the girl, he never took his eyes off the horse "You need to start off all over again." he stated, watching the horse continue to canter around the pen "Don't treat her like an injured horse. If you put this horse in the paddock, other horses wont look at her an say oh, guys she has to eat first because shes been abused or whatever. No, they would bite or kick to get her into to pecking order, you need to be the leader." he paused for a minute as he made his way for the horses driveline in an attempt to turn her off from what he thought she was about to do.

Scarlett nodded slightly as she listened to the young man state his opinion. She turned around and looked the mare in the eye. She knew how the mare thought and reacted, so, without thinking twice about it, jumped onto the gate. "She'll jump over you like that," Scarlett mentioned quietly, her line of sight focused on the buckskin mare, who was as angry as ever.
"Scarlett, Spartan's not doing to well, so I have to go back to the farm," Coach said, mentioning another of the horses they had brought with them. Scarlett turned her head to look at her coach, "What about Sandy?"
"We'll have to find a way to get her back in the lorry. I don't want to bother these young men any more," Coach replied, getting ready to go back into the lorry to back it towards the gate.

The mare's ears refused to leave her neck. Napping out at her, Sandy charged towards Scarlett, who jumped off the fence just in time, as not to get bitten. The mare, who was tossing her head in the air, completely ignored the young man, yet as she sped away, she kept her distance, and moved back and forth in the other end of the pen, recklessly and stressed. Although it didn't seem like it, Sandy was keeping a close eye on how the humans reacted, ready to flee from this place whenever there was an opening.

This was the first time in two years that he had found himself intrigued by a troubled horse, he had learnt to empty himself so he felt nothing but this horse gave him a sense of something he couldn't define, the way she charged her own rider, a member of her own herd showed that the horse had a sense of pride. She gave him a new found interest. "No." he called out as if a switch had gone off in his head "I would like to work with her. I have never seen anything like her for years." he explained as he followed the horse with his glassy blue eyes. In some sense he liked that the horse had distanced herself from him but in another it showed, in his opinion, a great disrespect towards humans.

"Very well, I'll leave her to you. Do you mind if I leave Scarlett with you as well? She'll need to get close to Sandy again sooner or later, and it might be easier to work with her owner also," Coach said, halting her movement towards the lorry.
Scarlett just nodded. A little flicker of hope inside her grew, but she didn't expect anything. If her coach, who she saw as an amazing horsewoman, couldn't help, then she doubted a young man could, although she didn't express this. She had a bag with some belongings in; the rest were supposed to be sent to the Olympic stadium. She opened the tack room in the lorry. Sandy's tack was hanging there also, undamaged from the crash. "Do you need her tack?" Scarlett asked.

"Yeah that's okay, i'm sure there is a spare room in the main house if need be but I would like to work with her first. I find that sometimes, as harsh as it may sound, that it's not the horse thats the issue but the owner and by taking the owner out of the equation I don't have that added stress on the horse." he explained in a less than sensitive tone, he said it how it was and if they didn't like it they could leave, he didn't need some sensitive owner crying or shouting if he gave the horse a wack on the butt, besides what do yo think another horse would do if it wanted to dominant another horse? "Her tack would be nice and if you have a lunge whip on hand, that would help greatly." he replied to the young lady who's name he was yet to learn.

Scarlett nodded, understanding. She took the saddle out and hung it on the gate, laying the bridle across. She then took Sandy's fetlock boots along with a dressage whip, which was the longest one they had with them, "This is the longest one we have" She told him. Grabbing her bag, she shut the door to the lorry.
"I'll get going then. Scarlett, I'll call you later for an update," Coach said, giving a slight wave and smiling as sweetly as ever. She got in the lorry and drove off, leaving Scarlett standing in the almost empty parking lot.
Scarlett turned to look at the mare. She was desperate to help her. It was as if she had lost her best friend, and she hated how everything had turned out.
