Valentine looked back at Gawain. She stared into his steal blue eyes and for a moment forgot everything bad that had happened. She smiled. She looked over the horizon and noticed the sun was getting ready to set. Her sunk because she knew they would have to be leaving soon. She wished they could just stay there forever. She turned back to Gawain and said, "Looks like it's going to be getting dark soon. I guess that means we need to get back on the road, huh." Before turning away she playfully reached down and splashed Gawain.

    Prince Gawain: Robin Fletcher
She looked up as he was staring at her and met his gaze, and he couldn't seem to look away. They both sat like that for a moment before she noted how late it was getting. Nodding in agreement he looked off to the horizon where the sun was slowly getting lower in the sky. When she splashed him he whipped his head back towards her and splashed her back as she walked out of the water, making sure he got out to prevent anymore splashing. He smirked, at her before grabbing his pack and looking for the horse. She was grazing beyond the dunes lazily, and looked up when he walked up to her and patted her on the neck. When they were back on the mare he looked at the ocean again before nudging the horse into action.

A few hours later they had made it as far as he hoped they would before it got too dark. They passed one lone cottage that was fenced in, the distant bleating of sheep signifying what type of farm it was. The longer they went on the more farms they were coming upon, and slowly but surely lanterns were being lit along the way. Some by the occupants of the farms, those in between were lit by a man on a horse who managed to keep ahead of them the whole time. As they followed him the wind picked up carrying the warm breeze and salt of the sea, and they could hear the waves crashing again as the road winded. The buildings began to get larger and more frequent meaning they were right outside the main city. It was larger than any they had been in before, and now that they were right upon it there was more light and noise. "This is it." he said darkly.

She looked around at the port city as they rode up to it. The sparkle of all the lanterns made it seem almost magical, if it weren't for the awful smell of fish it would be. "Now that we are here, now what?" She said turning and looking at Gawain.

    Prince Gawain: Robin Fletcher
"Now we find one last place to stay, and we go looking for a ship in the morning. It shouldn't be that complicated. The ships that dock here have to sign in and pay a fee, and usually they put down where they came from and where they are going. So hopefully it won't take us that long. I would still like to get up early just in case. The last thing that we need is to be stuck here another day." he said gently pulling back the reigns as two men came rolling out of an alley screaming at one another. Going around the scuffle he grimaced. Farther into the city he could see the masts of ships rising above the tops of the buildings. After a while of wandering he asked a man walking down the street about a place to stay, and he jerked his thumb over his shoulder and told them what to look for. Muttering his thanks he sped off again. "Lovely place isn't it." he said shaking his head. They came upon another inn, this one a little sketchier than the last, and even from the outside he could hear how rowdy the company was. Sliding off the saddle he took the horse over to where a few others were tied and left her there, helping Valentine down.

The ruckus of the city left an uneasy feeling in her gut as they rode through. When Gawain helped her off the horse she immediately grabbed his arm and held on tight. At this point she would almost prefer the woods over this place. As they walk in the door the smell of booze filled the air. It made her sick. Shady figures hung around every corner and inch of the place. The ceiling shook and dust fell as what could only be assumed to be a fight took place upstairs. She looked up at Gawain in fear watching and waiting for his next move.

Taking in the rather hostile atmosphere with Valentine hooked onto his arm he frowned distastefully. Instead of trying to put on a tough facade he instead wilted a little and just looked tired. Anyone who gave Valentine a glance however received a warning glare. Pushing his way through two men at the crowded bar he flagged down one of the two people serving, asking rather loudly over the noise if there was a place that they could stay for the night. The man nodded and made his way out from around the bar, shoving two men who were in each other's faces and telling them off before shaking his head and leading the two of them up two flights of stairs.

The room was rather dingy, stale air that smelled of booze and a miasma of other things lingered hung heavily. It was going to have to do though as much as he hated it. "Just one more night of this." he said sitting on the bed, leaning forward and putting his head in his hands.

The room was no better than the bar, but at least it was just the two of them. She heard Gawain mumble as he placed his head in his hands. She had forgotten that this voyage meant literally everything to him. His life and future and the fate of his kingdom rested on the results of this trip. She felt almost guilty for the way she felt towards him and the grudges she had. Ya, he kidnapped her and lied to her, but that was only because he was scared and didn't know what else to do. Honestly, if she were in the same position she can't say that she wouldn't do the same thing. She decides to forgive him for what he did and let go of the grudges she had (She wouldn't tell him that though).
She walks over to him and sits down on the bed next to him. She leaned her head on his shoulder and wrapped her arm around his back in a comforting manner. In a quite voice she whispers, "Just one more night." Closing her eyes she can feel her mind and body longing for sleep.

It was surprising to him that Valentine was treating him the way that she was. Questioning it was a foolish thing to do when comforting was truly what he needed, though he would never admit it. Gawain sat there for a while with Valentine holding him, up until it looked like the two of them were going to pass out from exhaustion. It had been another long day in a line of long days and still more to come. They needed rest more than anything. "Lets get some sleep." he said sitting up a bit, letting Val lay down. He pried open the small window so it wouldn't be as stuffy then came back and got into the bed, his eyes drawn to the starlight outside.

He opened the window and the room became at least 10x better than it was. Valentine could now go to sleep easier. Still, she was terrified of the inn they were staying at and felt unsafe. Once Gawain laid back down on the bed she couldn't help but gravitate towards him. Being closer to him made her feel safer. It wasn't long before she drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

For the first time in a while he slept without dreaming, too exhausted to be tortured by his own mind. By the time he was opening his eyes the next morning he felt a lot better. For a while he lay there, staring at the morning sky through the window. The strange laughter of the gulls added an ominous tinge to the air. Turning his head he saw that Valentine had slept right up against him again. It was still fairly early and he was reluctant to get out of the bed himself. There was a lot to do though, including selling the horse, finding a boat, and negotiating with the captain. "Val, we need to get moving," he said hoarsely, voice still filled with tiredness. Peeling himself out of the bed he went over to the window and looked out, a breeze tossing the loose hairs around his face. Stretching his shoulders he turned around to make sure that she was getting up.
