Shimmerstar sighed. "Okay, I understand. I'll..." He blinked down at his paws. "I don't know what to do." He murmured, sadness filling his heart. He would feel horrible taking a mate if Hazelheart was waiting for him. But he still had so much life to live, would he have to spend it alone? "Goodnight, Fawnleap." He said, standing up and padding into his den. He sat down, staring at the wall.

Hollyheart watched Pinetail for a moment, then sighed and lapped up some water. She lay on her side and quickly fell asleep. Only a heartbeat seemed to pass before she awoke, but she couldn't tell how long she had been unconscious. A few cats were around them, she recognized some. "Dewflight, Hazelheart!" She purred, standing up. Her eyes swivelled around for a moment, then her gaze rested on a very old tabby tom. "Owlberry." She murmured, dipping her head to the tom. He had been a medicine cat a long time ago, he had mentored Pinetail's mentor.

Hazelpaw felt tired, she had been training all day. She struggled to keep her eyes open. With a sigh, Hazelpaw closed her eyes. Just a minute won't hurt... She insisted to herself. Hazelpaw fell asleep.

Sunpaw blushed. "Not as pretty as you..." He murmured, his gaze filled with awe as he looked into Halfpaw's eyes. They were beautiful, stars were reflecting in her pupils.

Leopardflight nodded slowly. He let out a mew of agreement, purring as she groomed him. He was finally free of worries, Mapleheart liked him back and he had done something good for his clan. He felt himself loosing consciousness.

Leafheart was rather amused that the two others hadn't caught on. "Ah, speaking of your kin, where are those two?" She asked, looking around. She had seen Sootpaw go into the Apprentices' den, but was the she-cat still there?

Pigeoncloud nodded. "Well, you should be very proud of your daughters, they seem to be doing quite well in their training." He said, tactfully changing the subject. He didn't like to mention Dewflight, he could easily upset Eaglewing.

Rowanbranch blushed. "I wasn't?" He asked, excited. It wasn't really much of a compliment, but it seemed like such a special thing to say when it came from Cougarfang. He looked over at Rabbittail. "Oh, okay. Have a good rest." He murmured, waving his tail in farewell.

Barkfur lay peacefully sleeping, his fur ruffled from rolling around. He pawed at the edge of his nest, he was dreaming of chasing a rabbit.

Hazelheart purred. "Hello, Hollyheart. It is nice to see you again." She murmured, curling her tail over her paws. It had only been a moon, but Hazelheart was glad to finally talk to the medicine cats again. It was rather boring in Starclan, especially since there was no prophecy to chat about.

"I'll talk to you later." She said softly before turning and padding to the warriors den. Carefully maneuvering around Barkfur, she reached her nest and laid down in it. Letting out a soft sigh, she closed her eyes as she prepared for sleep.

Sitting up, he noticed someone at his side and it took him a moment to recognize who it was. "Darkwhisker!" He was glad to see his old mentor again. The she-cat had beautiful soft white fur with stars tangled in it. Her eyes stood out the most as they were vivid dark blue color, but her name came from the unusual black whiskers on her face.

Purring, she kept grooming his fur to help him relax and fall asleep. She wondered if this mate them mates now, but she would ask that later when he woke up. She knew he was tired and needed some rest.

"I hope he and Barkfur get together soon. Despite the age difference, it's clear those two are padding after one another." She shook her head in amazement. "It's interesting how easy it is to see some cats falling for one another but they are the only ones who don't seem to notice.

Seeing Barkfur asleep, he decided to wake him up but didn't go for the nice, gentle shake technique. No he decided to go with the jump on them and possibly give them a heart attack one. Crouching down, he sprang forward and landed squarely on the tom. "Surprise attack!"

Waking up, he felt someone nudging against his stomach. Blinking his eyes, he was surprised to see one of his kits trying to nurse but unable to find a source of milk. Letting out a soft laugh, he carefully picked Emberkit up and laid him next to Spottedpelts stomach instead.

"You don't have to be afraid to say her name." He said, knowing how others seemed to tiptoe around the subject. "I am fine with you all talking about her. Honestly, I don't mind being reminded of her because it's nice to be able to reminisce about old times. It might hurt but I would rather remember than completely forget the love we shared." His yellow eyes seemed to glow with fondness as he thought about his deceased mate. "I think everyone deserves to experience their own love story."

Waking up, she let out a hoarse cough as she glanced around. Seeing she was in the medicine den, she expected to see the two medicine cats but was surprised when she saw only Hazelpaw was here. What was she doing in here?

Pinning her ears back in embarrassment, she wasn't quite sure how to respond to the compliment. She rarely received one like this as she was normally complimented on her abilities during training. "Thank you." She glanced back up at the sky. "Do you think StarClan is watching us now?"

Having found something warm and smelled like his mother, he pressed against it and kneaded the area but couldn't find anything to latch onto. He was about to let out a mew to complain when he was suddenly lifted up. Confused, he was soon set down and realized where he was. The small tom eagerly began to knead again as he was finally able to nurse.

The she-cat purred as she watched Hollyheart wake up. "This is a time for peace but I wonder for how long shall it last." She felt worried as it seemed that peace could never last forever. There always seemed to be darkness looming in the corner, ready to strike at any time.

Purring softly as her former apprentice sat up, she whisked her feathery like tail over the ground. "Hello Pinetail. I am glad to see how well you are caring for the clan." Her eyes shone with warmth as she had loved Pinetail like he was her own kit when she trained him. "Now I care for you but I don't know about your little romance with Pigeoncloud. We do have a code to follow but....this is something rather new. I have spoken to the other medicine cats but we are pretty much split on if it could be allowed. No one can seem to fully agree."

Shimmerstar yawned and turned to lie in his nest. He immediately fell asleep, exhaustion winning the battle against consciousness.

Hollyheart was surprised as the cats burst into an arguement. She pinned her ears to her head as Owlberry glared at her. "I- Well, uh..." She was embarrassed that Starclan knew about her feelings for Robinpaw.

Hazelpaw jolted awake. She had a nightmare. "Sootpaw, are you okay?" She asked, surprised to see the she-cat awake. Hazelpaw couldn't shake the fear she felt about her dream.

Sunpaw giggled. "I hope not. We're not exactly allowed to be out here so late by ourselves." He murmured, looking up at the sky. Maybe Starclan really was watching them.

Leopardflight is sleeping.

Leafheart frowned. "I hope she's okay." She murmured, concerned for the apprentice. "I'm going to stay awake a little longer." She muttered, dipping her head in farewell to Leafsong. She glanced at Rowanbranch, relieved that he was making friends. He might not be my blood kin, but I do wish the best for him.

Pigeoncloud blushed. "Mm, I wonder if Pinetail's talking to her..." He murmured. Did Starclan know Pigeoncloud liked the medicine cat? Well, they probably did, but would they care?

Rowanbranch wasn't sure how to respond. He opened his mouth, trying to force words out. He blinked over at Rabbittail. "Oh gosh, I didn't know Barkfur could do that!" He murmured, staring at the two warriors.

Barkfur leaped up, kicking out with his hind legs. He spun around to see who had attacked him, ready to leap at them. "Rabbittail?!" He exclaimed, rushing to the tom. He had hit the warrior in the chest, knocking him back. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to!" He said, not sure what to do. Was Rabbittail really hurt? Would he be okay?

Hazelheart nodded. "I believe you should follow your heart." She purred, blinking at Pinetail. She growled as Owlberry spoke. "This is different, Owlberry! Okay, fine, medicine cats maybe shouldn't have kits, but they should be allowed to love!" She said, desperation in her voice. "You made a mistake and that's bad, but Pinetail and Hollyheart won't do that!" She insisted.

Owlberry frowned. "Your duty is to your clan, Pinetail." He said firmly. He had been told to shut up about the situation, but he didn't have to listen to the others. "You became a medicine cat to look after everyone, and you can't do that if you're focusing on some tom." He growled. He turned to Hollyheart. "That goes to you too, Hollyheart." He muttered.

Spottedpelt blinked awake. "Foxpelt?" She murmured, looking around. She was confused for a moment as to why no cat was kicking at her belly and she glanced at it, only to see her kits. Spottedpelt couldn't help purring.

Pinning his ears back, he felt a bit overwhelmed as he hadn't expected his thing with Pigeoncloud to be brought up. "I understand that it's against the code and that I shouldn't do it, but I don't want to hurt Pigeoncloud. "I do care for him." He looked between them, hoping this would stop the argument for now. "I vowed to care for my clan and I shall. I knew it meant that I couldn't have a mate and I will be sure to see it through." It caused a pang in his chest but it had to be done.

She softly licked around his neck as he fell asleep. Once she was sure that he was slumbering, she laid her head down to join him as she felt rather tired as well.

Turning her head to see Rabbittail fly back from the kick, she couldn't help but laugh at the sight. "Fantastic reflexes Barkfur! I've never seen Rabbittail fly like that before." It was rather humorless to see the toms prank backfire like that.

Yelping in shock as he was suddenly airborne, he fell on his back in a daze. Legs in the air, he stared up at the ceiling of the cave as he tried to regain his bearings. As Barkfur's face entered his vision, he gave him a goofy smile as he reached up and lightly bopped him on the nose. "I'm fine. Just didn't expect you to react like that. It was rather impressive though."

"Maybe. I just hope she is happy with how I have raised Sootpaw and Halfpaw. It was a bit difficult raising two small kits with no mother but I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. Becoming a father was the best thing that ever happened to me." He purred softly as he thought about the day the two had been born. He had been so terrified when he saw how tiny and fragile they were. "I'm glad you told me what was bothering you. And don't worry, I won't tell anyone else."

"They must be. Father said that they are in the sky watching over us." She responded, her gaze looking at all the different stars. "My mother is up there. He say's that Sootpaw looks a lot like her. Letting out a frustrated sigh, she gave her snowy fur a quick shake. "I have to agree with Owlberry. Hazelheart they are medicine cats and we all know the code. The rule is there for a reason and breaking it now might cause repercussions for the clan." She turned her blue gaze on Hollyheart,"You can not pursue anything with Robinpaw. He is destined to be a warrior and you a medicine cat. Being friends is alright but a romantic relationship is too risky. Especially if you were to expect kits because of it."

Shimmerstar chased a rabbit through the forest, its fluffy tail bobbing up and down as it leaped away from him. Sighing, Shimmerstar gave up, skidding to a halt. The tom padded over to a large oak surrounded by long grass and lay down, enjoying the sunlight.

Hollyheart frowned. "I..." She looked at her paws, sadness engulfing her. "Okay." She said blankly, her ears drooping. With a sigh, Hollyheart forced herself to look calmly at the Starclan cats. "Are there any warnings you have for us?" She asked coldly, no longer wanting to be around these cats.

Hazelpaw paused, forgetting why she was here. "Oh, they went to talk to Starclan! They asked me to watch you." She explained, sitting up.

Sunpaw frowned. "I uh, I never knew my parents very well." He murmured. "My mother was called Bella. She was black with white. My father was named Jesse. I look like him." Sunpaw explained. He could barely remember them, he had been a moon when his housefolk took him away. Back then, Sunpaw barely knew how to talk.

Leopardflight is sleeping.

Leafheart stretched out, not sure what to do. A bolt of pain struck through her back and she let out a yelp, twisting around to see what had bitten her. The nearest cat was at least five tail lengths away from her. Leafheart frowned and tried to stand up, but the pain forced her down. She whirled her head around, looking for someone to help. "Eaglewing!" She called, glaring at the warrior. "Get the medicine cats!" She yowled. Was this how she would die?

Pigeoncloud blinked as Leafheart called out to Eaglewing. She looked panicked. Pigeoncloud stared in horror as the she-cat dug her claws into the dirt.

Rowanbranch winced as a cat yelled. He swivelled his head around. "Leafheart!" He cried, rushing over to the elder. She was surrounded by fear scent, her eyes showed great pain. This was serious. "What is it, what's wrong with you?!" He asked, checking her over. He didn't know how he could help.

Barkfur's expression hardened. "Why did you do that?! I was-" Barkfur got cut off by Leafheart, the she-cat's yowls interrupting the whole clan. He looked over at her, dismay consuming his anger.

Hazelheart frowned. "No! Love is-" She stopped, her ears swivelling around. "Something's wrong." She hissed. Hazelheart was sure she had heard a cat call out. She spun around and rushed towards the pond where Starclan got to watch Mistclan. It hit her like a blow from a badger. "Birds cry and the leaves die..." She murmured. Bounding back to the group of cats, Hazelheart glared at Hollyheart. "You owe a lot to Mistclan, Hollyheart. You earned you Medicine Cat name because you are meant to care for your clan. This is your chance." Hazelheart said, trying to hide her panic.

Owlberry blinked in surprise as Hazelheart walked away. She rushed back immediately. "What is it?" He hissed to the she-cat, confused. Hazelheart never normally gave up on an argument like that, and she especially didn't change her mind about anything. Ever.

Spottedpelt blinked down at her Emberkit. "Hey, hey, don't wake her up." Spottedpelt murmured, gently pushing the kit off of his sister. Spottedpelt jumped, a yowl coming from outside. "What is it?!" She asked, curling tightly around her kits.

The tom felt bad for Hollyheart but knew it was for the best. She had a chance of expecting if she wasn't careful and it wasn't something that could easily be hidden at times. Turning to Hazelheart, he felt confused by what she said. "What happened? What's going on?" The fur along his spine rose as he felt uneasy and worried.

Head whipping around, her blue eyes widened as she noticed the sound came from Leafheart. Pinning her ears back, she watched Rowanbranch run over to the elder and felt worried. The she-cat was rather old and wondered if it was her time.

The tom was about to joke about Barkfur needing to lighten up but was distracted by the yowl. Gaze moving to the elders den, he rolled onto his side and pinned his ears back. "This can't be good." He glanced over at Barkfur,"Do you think she will be okay?"

Fur rising at the sound, he softly licked his mates head before standing. "Stay here. I'll check it out." He had a bit of trouble squeezing his large frame through the small opening but he managed to slip out. Looking around, he noticed Leafheart and pinned his ears back. "What's going on?"

Hearing his name, he took one look at the she-cat before he jumped to his paws. "We'll talk more later!" He swiftly darted out of the cave, running as fast as his paws would let him. Nearly falling as he swiftly turned, he managed to reach the cave and bounded towards the two sleeping forms. "Pinetail! Hollyheart! Leafheart needs you!" He said as he nudged them to try and wake them up.

"Oh." She didn't have time to respond as her ears perked up at the sound of the yowl. "Is that Leafheart?" She asked with a frown. The she-cat sounded like she was in pain.

"I'm sorry. I bet they would be proud if they knew how well you were doing." Hearing what sounded like a faint yowl, she turned her head and soon saw her father run out of the cave. Curious, she peered over the edge of the cliff,"What's going on? Looks like something is happening back in camp."

At the yowl, he swiftly bounded out and his eyes widened when he saw Leafheart. "What's happening? Leafheart are you alright?" He felt concerned and soon felt Leafsong at his side. He could sense his mates worry and softly rested his tail to try and comfort her.

Letting out an unhappy mew as he was moved, he felt himself be pulled closer when a strange sound came from outside. He blindly moved but his mothers tail stopped him from getting far.

Curious, she stood and approached the small pool to look into it. "Oh....I fear her time may be up on this earth," she murmured softly as she gazed into the pool.

Shimmerstar lost his dream, sleeping peacefully.

Hollyheart blinked. "What do you mean?" She asked. Hazelheart seemed desperate for them to go back to the clan. Hollyheart suddenly felt something poke at her side. She looked around, a familiar tom was staring at her. Hollyheart stood up, swivelling her head around. Starclan had gone. "What happened?" She asked Eaglewing, noticing how tense the tom looked.

Hazelpaw blinked down at the clan. Cats were gathering around Leafheart. "I- I'll go see what's wrong." Hazelpaw mewed to Sootpaw, before hurrying down to the elder. She knew there was no point in asking what was wrong, Leafheart was going to explain anyway.

Sunpaw stood up. "Maybe it's the kits!" He murmured, hurrying down the slope towards the cave. He skidded along the frosty rocks, landing on the path and running back inside. Sunpaw pushed through the crowd of cats, seeing Leafheart lying down, pain in her expression.

Leopardflight woke with a start. He purred when he saw Mapleheart beside him. Cats were talking a lot outside. Something bad had happened. Leopardflight stood up and padded out into the main cave, observing every cat.

Leafheart breathed in and out, trying to control the pain. "My back." She choked, staring at the ground intensely. She lashed her tail back and forth, biting back another yowl.

Pigeoncloud continued watching the elder, worried. What was happening? Was she dying? Pigeoncloud didn't know.

Rowanbranch stared in horror at Leafheart. The last member of his kin was dying. Tears flooded Rowanbranch's eyes. "Please, don't die too!" He wailed.

Barkfur's could only stare at Leafheart. He felt a pang in his heart as he saw Rowanbranch. "We don't know if she'll die, Rowanbranch." He called sympathetically.

Hazelheart was relieved when Hollyheart faded from the clearing. "Pinetail, you must go with her." Said Hazelheart, trying not to give anything away. She glanced at Owlberry, sadness flooding through her. "It might be time, Owlberry." She whispered.

Owlberry stared into Hazelheart's eyes. "N-no, it can't be." He said, his voice so quiet he could have been mistaken for a mouse. "You're wrong." He muttered, glaring around at the other Starclan cats. Fear edged his voice, Leafheart was who he had always been closest to.

Spottedpelt heard worried murmuring from the clan. It wasn't an attack. Heaving to her paws, Spottedpelt poked her head out of the nursery. She immediately sussed out the situation and went back, picking up all three of her kits to take them into the cave.

The tom was disturbed by his mother picking them up bye the scruff. He let out feeble mews, but eventually gave in and let her carry him out into the cave.

Leopardkit stirred as she was picked up. She flailed about, annoyed that she could not sleep longer. Escape was impossible, however, and Leopardkit relaxed, deciding she could fall sleep anywhere.

Lifting her head, she was awoken by a yowl of pain. Quickly jumping up, she darted out of the den with an alarmed look. "What is going on? What happened?" Looking around, she noticed everyone was gathered around Leafheart who looked in pain.

Blackwhisker leaned forward and he felt her nose touch his head. Eyes closing, it felt like the ground vanished beneath him and he soon awoke next to Hollyheart. He gave himself a quick shake of his head. "What happened?"

Waking, she slowly slipped out and went to Leopardflights side,"Oh no. This is bad." She said as she pressed against Leopardflights side. "What's wrong with her?

Seeing the elder, she went to Rowanbranch's side and softly touched his shoulder with her tail. "Hey.....that isn't going to help. You need to calm down. Eaglewing went to go and get Pinetail and Hollyheart. They will help her." She said, her voice unusually soft.

Fur on end, his stump of a tail raised as the fur along his spine was bristled. It was rather chilling to watch and he pinned his ears back. "Will she be alright?" He asked softly.

Fur fluffed up, he felt concerned and turned to see Spottedpelt with the kits. "What are you doing?" Why was she taking them out of the nursery. The three kits looked rather unhappy at the moment.

Staying by the apprentices den, he pinned his ears back as he didn't like this one bit. It was horrible only being able to watch a clanmate in pain and unable to help. He wished he could but knew nothing about healing. Was she really going to die?

Watching Hazelpaw leave, she pinned her ears back as she could hear the yowls of pain. What was going on? She wanted to see but knew she would get scolded by the medicine cats if she was caught out of the den.

Following him the best she could, she was slower descending as she didn't want to fall. Finally reaching camp, she noticed a group of cats gathered by the elders den. "Is one of the elders hurt?" She asked, trying to balance on her back legs to see over her clanmates.

The tom quickly moved to sit next to Leafheart. "Listen to me. I need you to try and calm down and don't try to move. Eaglewing will have Pinetail and Hollyheart return to camp soon." He tried to be soothing to try and help. He glanced at his mate and gave a small not of his head.

Seeing the nod, she went to Leafheart and carefully moved to sit beside her. She lightly rested her tail on the others back and tried to use her powers. It had been a long time but she was determined to help her friend. "Relax. Take a deep breath." Her power was supposed to help others feel calm and relaxed but she wasn't sure if she could still do it.

Shimmerstar blinked awake, his sleep interrupted by the noise from his clanmates. He hurried into the main cave, seeing a huddle of cats. He shouldered his way through them, seeing Leafheart on the ground. "Leafheart?" He murmured, blinking down at the elder.

Hollyheart bolted out of the cave, almost falling over as she sped up the path towards camp. She ran up the hill, leaping over rocks and bushes. Skidding into the camp, Hollyheart took a moment to breathe deeply, trying to calm down. Noticing the crowd of cats, Hollyheart pushed through them, the elder was on the ground, looking pained. "What's wrong?"

Hazelpaw stepped back as her father padded past her. The apprenticed blinked at the elder, concerned. Hazelpaw was shoved aside and was about to hiss at the cat, but she realized it was Hollyheart. Quickly moving away from the elder, Hazelpaw watched the situation unravel.

Sunpaw walked backwards, trying to escape the tight group of cats. He watched as Shimmerstar crouched down, trying to calm the elder. "Yes." He whispered to Halfpaw.

Leopardflight looked over as Mapleheart joined him. "Her back." He murmured, watched as the elder talked to the others. Straining his ears, Leopardflight just caught the conversation.

Leafheart forced her fur to lie flat. "My back- I can't move." She breathed, looking up at Hollyheart. "Don't give me any false hope, I'm going to die, aren't I? You can't cure this, you can't cure age!" She choked, tears filling her eyes. She held them back, looking over at the tiny figures Spottedpelt was carrying. "Hello there, little ones..." She whispered, a smile coming to her face.

Pigeoncloud blinked at Spottedpelt, who was carrying her kits. His gaze locked onto the young tom who he had met earlier. Glancing at Leafheart, Pigeoncloud noticed the joy that seemed to consume her as she looked at the kits.

Rowanbranch looked at Cougarfang, detecting the worry in her. He looked over at Hollyheart, his power consumed by the medicine cat's emotions. "They can't help her." He murmured, lying down on the cold floor of the cave. His eyes were blank and he stared at Cougarfang's paws. "She's all I have..."

Barkfur shook his head. "No. She was so sick last Leafbare. Her health only declined from then. They cured her of Greencough but they can't cure this."

Hazelheart sighed. "She's going to join us. You know she is." She murmured, resting her tail on Owlberry's shoulder. "If... If you don't want to-" Hazelheart was cut off.

"I want to." Owlberry murmured. "I should lead her to Starclan." He sighed. He couldn't deny it any longer. Leafheart was surely going to die. "She might survive..." He whispered.

Spottedpelt glared at Foxpelt, putting the kits down in front of Leafheart. "I want you to meet Emberkit, Leopardkit and Lionkit." She purred, pointing to each one with her paw. She saw Leafheart mouth the names, smiling at the kits.

Lionkit squeaked as he was out on the ground, swivelling his head around in confusion.

Leopardkit mewed in alarm as she touched the cold floor of the cave, crawling towards the sweet scent of her mother.

Her gaze drifted over to Shimmerstar, pale green eyes showing grief. "What is going to happen?" She had liked Leafheart despite her grumpy disposition at times. Losing a clanmate was hard.

Standing, he raced after Hollyheart but she was faster than him. He ran as fast as he could, his slim figure easily bounding over rocks that were in his way. Panting as he reached camp, be began to push his way through the crowd. "Out of my way! Let me through! Move furball!" He growled at Rabbittail who was blocking his path.

Pressing against Leopardflight, she felt grief as she watched the elder helplessly. However, the kits were brought over and she noticed Leafheart smile. It was a nice distraction from the pain.

She imagined they would grow unimaginably old together and becoming cranky old elders who kept retelling the same stories. Her gaze moved to Kestrelwing, glad that he would be here for her. But the den would feel empty if Leafheart joined StarClan.

Not liking the cold, he began to crawl towards the closest heat source. His nose bumped Leafhearts leg and he began to try and climb over it. He wanted to snuggle against something and stay warm.
