Fawnleap

She was surprised when Shimmerstar appeared and said he wanted to talk to her later. She didn't have time to respond as he was already gone. Blinking her pale green eyes, she let him go as she continued toward the fox. Her leader could look after himself and didn't need to have someone with him all the time.

Deciding to worry about it later, he began to carefully gather burdock root, his paws becoming muddy. Digging into the soft mud, he worked swiftly to keep his mind occupied.

"Wonder where Shimmerstar is going." He said as he noticed their leader leave rather quickly. Was he heading towards the river?

Following the others, the fur along his spine rose as he caught the fox scent. It was growing stronger the closer they walked. He glanced at Leopardflight, wondering what he was thinking.

"Me?" She was surprised by that and couldn't think how anything could involve her. However, noticing Hollyheart looking upset when Shimmerstar left, she tried to cheer her up. "Maybe it was a dream about Pinetail." She offered softly. "If it was anything important, I am sure he would have told you."

"Alright....." Sighing, she went to lay by the entrance to the medicine den and wait for some news. She could faintly hear Sootpaws voice but couldn't make out what she was saying.

He exchanged a look with his mate before speaking," We aren't sure. I mean, it was so long ago that it's hard to tell who descended from who." He said softly. "The RainClan cats had been treated differently when they first joined that they had to work hard as they were treated like outsiders. Over time, they slowly gained the clans trust until they forgot they had been RainClan once.

Wriggling over to him, the small kit nuzzled against his leg before letting out a tiny yawn. The kit was seeking warmth and this furry thing was definitely warm.

Shimmerstar skidded to a halt by the river, seeing Pinetail a few badger lengths away. He sprinted over to the tom. "Pinetail. Pinetail, I had a dream and I need you to explain it and I saw Hazelheart and Dewflight and she told me follow my heart and I'm not sure if that means Fawnleap and then Hazelheart said that Fawnleap has a task and she said that Hazelpaw is in love and I need help and I don't know what to do." He said in a rush. He sighed. "Greetings, Pinetail." He said, trying to calm down.

Hollyheart blinked. "Yes, you. And it's always important, he just doesn't tell me things because I'm young. Anyway, he said; A nut from a tree falls to the ground, barely making any sound, fire blazes and it turns to ashes, hearts do ache and a young cat dashes." She said. She was surprised at herself for remembering. She swivelled her ears, desperate to hear Shimmerstar's voice, but he was too far away, or speaking to quietly. She looked back at Sootpaw. "Ashes, fire. Soot." She explained.

Hazelpaw sighed. "I wish I could meet our ancestors. I have to wait three moons!" She groaned. She glanced at Sunpaw, who had sat beside her, then back at the elders. "What will my power be?" She asked excitedly. She knew they had no idea, but they could tell her what powers she might have.

Sunpaw sat patiently, not really paying attention to the elders' story. He was upset Halfpaw liked Robinpaw so much. He hated Robinpaw. He was so much older than Sunpaw, it was really annoying how he always acted like he had more authority just because of his age. And Sunpaw despised the way Robinpaw sometimes looked at Hazelpaw or some of the other apprentices. Robinpaw just seemed to do whatever he liked. Sunpaw glanced up at Halfpaw, then back at his paws, digging his claws into the dirt.

Leopardflight frowned at the smell of fox. He quickly padded to a nearby tree and bounded up it, signalling for his apprentice to follow him. If Robinpaw could lure it out, they could ambush it.

Pigeoncloud purred and pulled the kit closer to him. Was this what it was like to be a father? He wouldn't mind it at all. He carefully lay down and put the kit to his chest. No, this was what it was like to be a mother. And he quite liked it. Actually, I want to mentor this one. He thought to himself. He didn't even know the kit's name but he already felt a bond with him.

Hazelheart nodded. "Yes. I've been watching her for a while, and I think if she wants to love Shimmerstar she has to love me." She said calmly. She knew it was very unusual to want to have two mates, and it was unlikely Fawnleap would decide that, but Hazelheart didn't care. That was the rule. She hated the idea of Shimmerstar dying and simply waiting for Fawnleap. And Fawnleap wouldn't really like having Shimmerstar not love her in the afterlife.

Spotting the den, she watched Leopardflight climb up the tree and used her tail to block Robinpaw's path. "Shimmerstar wanted you to use your powers today. So why don't you try it out after we all climb up the tree. If something goes wrong, we can jump down and surprise it." She gave him a nod before swiftly ascending the tree. She was impressed with Leopardflights plan as it was a good one.

Not expecting so many questions, he lifted his tail to silence his leader. "First, I need you to relax and breathe a bit. Also, it sounds like Dewflight is telling you to follow your heart and not your head for once. Also, if Hazelpaw is in love there is not much you can do. You can't stop someone from feeling a certain emotion." He wasn't sure why he was telling him all of this. "It's no secret that Fawnleap has a crush on you. She has had one on you since she first become a warrior. What do you think the dream means?"

Giving his nephew a worried look, he soon climbed up to join the other in the branches. His fluffy red tail flicked from side to side as he watched the younger tom slowly approach the den. Hopefully nothing would go wrong and this would work well.

Gulping nervously, he glanced up at the four in the tree before slowly approaching the den. Warily looking into the dark entrance, he took a deep breath before trying to speak fox. It was a bit rough sounding as he let out a strange bark but soon a nose was visible and it was followed by two amber eyes. The fox exited the den although it seemed perplexed to see a cat. It growled and let out a yip which Robinpaw responded with another bark.

"That makes no sense whatsoever." She said with a frown. It sounded like nonsense to her. "What does a nut falling from a tree have to do with me?" She asked with a slight tilt of her head.

"It could be anything. Fawnleap can run like the wind. Cougarfang can jump into a tree without climbing. Pigeoncloud can control the weather with his emotions. Even Robinpaw can speak to other animals. You know, Eaglewing inherited his power from me." He stated with a proud purr. "My power has vanished with age but I was able to predict the weather with 100% accuracy."

She laid on her side, letting her back touch Kestrelwings leg. "There are common powers and some unusual ones. Like my mates, mine has faded over time but I used to be able to heal faster than most cats. It was useful in fights and I didn't need to worry about scratches or cuts long."

Yawning once more, he nuzzled into the warm fur as he didn't need to worry about his sister kicking him again. Falling asleep, his small paws kneaded at the soft moss underneath him as he slept.

Tail flicking uneasily, she let out a sigh. "Isn't that a lot to ask of her. I mean, you are in StarClan after all. The only time you can spend time with her is in dreams and even then it is limited." She wasn't sure what Hazelheart planned to accomplish from it. But she knew how she felt. After all, she still loved Eaglewing and would wait for him until his time came but she didn't expect him to stay alone forever. It would be nice to see him happy again, even if it meant he took on another for his mate. "I just don't want anyone getting hurt.

Shimmerstar sighed. "Well..." He paused, trying to remember it all. He took a deep breath. "Plants have hearts, the sun does shine, robins sing and tails intertwine. Soot does call and eagles soar, the bark is softer than before. Foxes prey and kits do play, the Mist will live another day." He said, pretty sure he had got it right. He knew none of it could really be considered bad, but he felt nervous about it. He had no idea what the one about plants having hearts or robins was.

Hollyheart rolled her eyes. "Our ancestors never give us a straight answer, Sootpaw. When I visited them to get my powers they didn't just tell me I would get better hearing. They told me to have faith in myself and to work my hardest. They let me figure it out." She sighed. "Peanut, Walnut, Chestnut, Hazelnut..." She muttered. She blinked. "Oh, it's probably Hazelpaw." She said. She had no idea if this was true, but Sootpaw just wanted an answer.

Hazelpaw blinked. She would hate to loose her powers just because she got old. "Really? You loose your powers? What about Leafheart?" She asked, glancing over at the old she-cat. Leafheart was sleeping just outside the elders' den, on a patch of grass. Hazelpaw blinked, as the air seemed to get much hotter around them. She tilted her head. It might have been something to do with Pigeoncloud.

Leopardflight paused, looking down at the fox. He padded along the branch until he was directly above the creature. He didn't like how Robinpaw was so vulnerable. Even though he wasn't supposed to, Leoparflight gave the signal and silently dropped down on the the fox. It started yelping and barking at him, and he struggled to stay on. He dug his teeth into its neck, but it quickly bucked him off. He landed on the ground and let out a growl before leaping back onto the creature.

Pigeoncloud purred, feeling warmth in his heart. Maybe it was just the kit. He purred, laying still with it. He knew he would have to go soon, as it was pretty strange for him to be with this kit and not be related to it. Spottedpelt must have been exhausted though, so she'd probably sleep all through till morning. And he'd definitetly know when Foxpelt came back. It was really just about who visited the kits first.

Hazelheart blinked. "Well, I just love to be loved..." She murmured. She was getting rather impatient with all this waiting. It was approaching sun-down, however, and it wouldn't be long until many cats were sleeping in their nests. She looked down at Pigeoncloud, who was cuddling one of the kits. It was strange, but he hadn't really interacted with kits or apprentices before then, so he didn't know how great they were.

Letting out a soft growl when Leopardflight just took over and jumped down, she turned to the others and nodded to show they could join. Dropping down, she landed behind the fox and began clawing and biting at it's haunches.

The tom pinned his ears back as he thought about it. "Most of those have to deal with a certain part of a cats name." He let out a sigh as he thought about it. "Plants have hearts could mean Hollyheart. We could go through it and try to find out what each part means but I am not sure what it means for the cats involved." He frowned as the last part didn't make sense to him. "But I have no clue what it means by the mist will live another day."

Seeing Leopardflight drop down, she glanced at Fawnleap before receiving the okay to follow him. Carefully jumped down, she landed at the foxes side and her paw lashed out, her claws slashing at it's shoulder.

Following the others, he landed between Robinpaw and the fox. He arched his back, fluffing out his fur as he let out an angry growl. He waited to jump in as he didn't want to join in and possibly squash one of his clanmates with his bulky size.

The tom stood and went over to his parents,"Would you like me to gather you some fresh moss before the storm comes?" He asked, wanting to get out of camp for a bit to try and clear his head. Also with the storm coming, the elders might need some new moss.

Shocked as his mentor dropped down, his green eyes were wide in surprise. He had barely started talking to it and wasn't quite sure if it worked. The fox had said something but it was a bit choppy and he could barely make out what it said.

"It all sounds like nonsense to me. What does it have to do with me and Hazelpaw? We are going to set the forest on fire? I doubt I will have a fire power." She said as she shook her head. StarClan was rather confusing.

The tom gave a nod,"I don't know about Leafheart as she rarely talks to me." It confused him as he tried to be nice but she always gave him the cold shoulder. "We don't really lose them. They just.....fade over time. I just don't bother trying to use it anymore but I probably could if I tried hard enough."

"That would be nice," she purred to Eaglewing, sitting up and licking at her sons forehead. It was clear she had a soft spot for her first kit and was immensely proud of him.

Letting out a soft sigh, she gave a nod of her head. "Just.....be careful. You know we aren't supposed to become too involved with our living clanmates." She said as she stood up. "I am going to head back to where the others are. Try not to expect too much." She wasn't sure if Fawnleap would like the idea of also being in a relationship with Hazelheart as the she-cat was dead. Sighing, she decided to stay out of it as it didn't really involve her.

Shimmerstar blinked. "I think it means Mistclan is going to be fine." He said. He had been nervous about the fox, but he was feeling better about it. "Hollyheart?" He murmured. He sighed. "Dewflight said something about small decisions and big consequences..."

"I dunno, ask Starclan." She muttered. She flicked her ears, hearing her name. She turned around, but there was no other cat. She sighed. "Listen, Sootpaw. You will find out the answer eventually, but I think you should try and get it yourself." She said, looking at the ground. "Maybe Hazelpaw's going to die in a fire." She muttered coldly.

Hazelpaw blinked. "A storm? But it just rained this morning, and now it's as sunny as ever." She said to Eaglewing, confused. She yawned and looked outside. Sundown was upon the forest and it was slowly growing darker. She hoped the fox patrol would be back soon.

Leopardflight dug his claws into the creature, raking at its fur. He smiled as he smelt blood, but quickly jumped off before it could bite him. He backed away a bit to let Foxpelt and Fawnleap at it, and he looked over at Robinpaw. He gasped as the creature tried to get the apprentice and quickly sped forward, blocking its attack.

Pigeoncloud carefully picked up the kit by its scruff and laid it back in the nest with its sleeping siblings. He stretched and padded out into the cave, his gaze quickly locking on Eaglewing. He wondered if the tom remembered that they were meant to talk, but he simply padded over to the small pond and watched the sun reflect off of its surface.

Hazelheart nodded. She frowned down at the living cats. She spotted Halfpaw waiting outside the medicine cats' den. Hazelheart took a deep breath, focusing her mind on the one thought. Halfpaw and Sunpaw. Hazelheart loved her power so much. She could influence other cats' thoughts, give them ideas they assume they thought of themselves. She willed Halfpaw to speak to Sunpaw. She knew she wasn't allowed to use her power now that she was dead, but she felt she knew what was best for cats. A little push in the right direction wouldn't harm them...

Leaping back, she panted softly as she watched Foxpelt leap at the fox and began clawing at it's face. Cougarfang was at the foxes side with her claws and teeth buried in it's shoulder.

"That makes sense...." He felt nervous when he heard him repeat what he had heard earlier. "It's probably just a warning to be aware of what our decisions could mean. I don't think it's anything to worry about too much."

Biting at it's shoulder, her back paws kicked out as she raked her claws against it. Hearing it yelp as Foxpelt clawed at it's face, she swiftly released it as it turned tail and ran. Spitting out fur, she let out a hiss after it. "Keep running! And stay out!"

Jumping at the fox, his swiped his claws at it's face and saw blood well up from the wounds. As it turned and ran, he gave himself a quick shake as he was glad they had caught the fox by surprise.

"The weather can change and I can sense it coming. It's going to be a big one." The tom knew it was coming and they needed to be ready for it. Nodding, he turned and noticed Pigeoncloud. His let his tail brush over the others tom back as he passed him by. "Why don't you join me. We can talk a bit." He said as he gave him a small smile.

Taken aback by how quickly everything happened, he pinned his ears back as he hadn't really been able to use his power very much. So much for testing it out. "I guess it doesn't have any kits of it's own if it left that easily."

Sighing, she decided to let it go as it simply confused her. Curling up, she closed her eyes as she prepared to sleep some more as she let out another cough.

Feeling the urge to talk to Sunpaw, she stood up and padded over to the tom. "Hey Sunpaw....do you still want to leave the cave?" She asked softly as she shuffled her paws. "I understand if you don't want to now." She stated as she pinned her ears back.

"A storm....they always make my joints ache." He said as he licked the top of Leafsong's head. "Hopefully the river doesn't flood again. It's always dangerous to get a drink when that happens."

Leafsong gave a nod of her head. "Yes. I remember when poor Shadestripe was carried away by the river. We searched the banks for days but never found any sign of her. Robinpaw was so distraught and wouldn't eat for a while after. I hope nothing like that happens again."

Shimmerstar nodded. "Thank you Pinetail. When you are finished please return to camp." He murmured, padding away. He could hear cats fighting in the distance, then silence. He hoped the fox fight had gone well. When he made it back to the cave, he let out a sigh and went to his nest, feeling exhausted. He lay down, beginning to groom his pelt. He groaned, remembering he had told Fawnleap they had to talk. Being a leader was so difficult.

Hollyheart looked up as Shimmerstar went into his den. She sighed, realizing how tired she felt. She padded over to the prey pile, grabbing a mouse. Once she had finished her meal, she went back to the den and prepared some herbs for her and Pinetail to have when they visited the Pool of Wonder. She would be sleeping, but whenever she woke up it was as if she had been awake for days. That was the worst part of going to the pool of wonder.

Hazelpaw nodded. "I hope the patrol gets back soon." She said. She looked up as Halfpaw padded over to Sunpaw. Halfpaw said something quietly, but Hazelpaw heard something something cave. She decided not to bother trying to figure it out. "I'm going to go try and fall asleep before the storm starts." She murmured, waving her tail in farewell to the elders.

Sunpaw looked up as Halfpaw padded over to him. He did want to, but he had to force himself to smile. "Yes, I do." He murmured. He was a bit upset still, but he knew he couldn't let Robinpaw get it the way of him and Halfpaw. Especially if the tom didn't even know he was.

Leopardflight frowned. "I'm sorry. I should have waited for you to give the signal." He said, looking over at Fawnleap. He had just panicked when the fox appeared and he had needed to stop it from getting any closer to Robinpaw.

Leaheart yawned and padded over to the other elders, just as Hazelpaw left. "A storm?" She asked, having overheard the conversation. She sat next to Leafsong, not looking at Kestrelwing. She knew it wasn't good of her to be so mean to him all the time and not tell him why, but she just despised him so much. It didn't matter anyway, she'd be dead soon enough. "Maybe I should go stand in the river, see how I hold up." She joked.

Pigeoncloud smiled and went to sit next to Eaglewing. He sighed, curling his tail around his paws. "Gosh, I don't really know if I should tell you why I was upset this morning." He murmured. He knew he could trust Eaglewing with any information, but would the tom think less of him for feeling that way about a medicine cat?

Hazelheart purred as Halfpaw did exactly what she had wanted. Hazelheart urged to do more, but the others might catch on. She sighed and padded over to sit with them, as she was supposed to be here when Hollyheart and Pinetail arrived. Hopefully they probably would show up earlier than usual if Pinetail was meeting Pigeoncloud, which might give Hazelheart time to talk to Fawnleap. Well, of course she had time, she had the whole night, but she often liked to sleep herself, even though she didn't need to.

Digging up a few more roots, he soon gathered what he had and began to head back towards the cave. He carefully held the burdock roots in his mouth as he didn't want to waste the herbs. However, they might have to go and collect some cat mint if Sootpaw didn't recover soon.

"I doubt that fox will come back soon!" Crouching down, she suddenly sprang up and with her power she easily reached the lowest branch. Perching onto it carefully, she strained a bit and managed to see it's red tail disappear behind a bush. "It's still running! Looks like it is heading for the border."

Turning to Robinpaw, he lightly nudged him. "I was amazed by what you were doing. It was a bit rough but it looked like the fox understood you. You almost sounded like one." He playfully cuffed him over the head. "Your ma would be proud!"

"I'm not going to force you to tell me but I would like to know." He said as he turned his yellow gaze on him. "After all, you seemed rather upset and it never helps to keep your emotions bottled up." He wondered what had him so upset to cause a drastic change in the weather like that. "I won't judge you Pigeoncloud. We are clanmates and I only want to be able to help. I want you to feel like you can trust me."

"Thanks Leopardflight," he said softly to his mentor before he was cuffed over the head. He swung his paw at Foxpelt but couldn't reach him. "Well it wasn't easy making the right sounds. Sort of hurt my throat doing that."

Standing up, Shimmerstar padded to sit at the entrance to his den. He smiled as the fox patrol entered. They seemed happy and no one looked badly injured, so Shimmerstar could only assume the best. He was glad they had managed to sort it out, but he was confused as to why they had come back so quickly, and he wondered if Robinpaw had actually used his powers.

Hollyheart grabbed the piles of herbs. She was about to leave, when she stopped. There was no-one to care for Sootpaw. Hollyheart groaned and put the herbs down, going into the cave. She glanced at Halfpaw, but she seemed busy. Hollyheart padded into the apprentices' den. "Hazelpaw. Sootpaw needs to be watched while Pinetail and I are gone. Take a nest and go up there." She said, not waiting for a response but simply exciting the den. She swivelled her ears until she picked up on Pinetail. He was probably walking back to camp. Hollyheart paced around for a while, before the fox patrol entered camp. She froze when she saw Robinpaw, but quickly looked away.

Hazelpaw looked up. She was just about to fall asleep, she was sure of it. She sighed and nodded, even though Hollyheart had already left. Looking after Sootpaw wasn't bad, at least. Standing up, Hazelpaw began dragging her nest away. When she got it to the Medicine den, she shuffled her den next to Sootpaw's. She felt it was kind of weird to just sit there and watch Sootpaw, but if her condition worsened she would probably get really ill.

Sunpaw nodded and stood up. He quickly went to the entrance and hurried out, going to some shadows. He wanted to glance back at Halfpaw, but it might blow his cover. He gulped as the patrol grew nearer and stayed flat against the rock, still.

Leopardflight nodded. They were just about at the cave and Leopardflight thought he saw something move. When they got closer, all he could smell was his clanmates. He sighed and followed the patrol inside. He didn't really want to talk about the fox with anyone, so he went into the warriors' den. "Mapleheart." He said softly, blinking at the she-cat. "I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier." He murmured.

Leafheart chuckled. "I wouldn't count on it." She purred, glancing down at her frail legs. She sighed, remembering the time when she could run like the wind, catch any prey that crossed her path. But now, she was so weak. She didn't like that at all. She sniffed the air wondering if she could just about smell anything unusual, but her powers had failed her too. She looked at all the young cats in sight. Hollyheart, Sunpaw, Halfpaw, Hazelpaw... All with such great futures ahead of them. "It's a shame I never had kits of my own." She murmured.

Pigeoncloud blinked. "I... I'm in love with Pinetail." He said quickly. He looked away, waiting for Eaglewing to scold him. He knew he shouldn't feel this way about Pinetail, but he couldn't just shake the feelings away. He had felt like this for so long, it seemed impossible to him that he had once not.
