"Well hopefully it left and we won't have to worry about it." She said as she stood. Her pale green gaze moved to Cougarfang, letting her take the lead as she chose her to lead this patrol. She wasn't as bossy as some cats and didn't mind letting someone else take charge of a routine border patrol.

Finishing the mouse, he froze as he felt the strange sensation in his chest again. Something was wrong. Getting up, he left his den and glanced around camp once more. No one appeared to be feeling unwell.....but maybe they were in their nest. Ignoring the others, he got up and headed over to the warriors den. Peering in, he saw nothing out of the ordinary so he moved to the apprentice den next. Looking in, he was about to move on but his ears twitched as he heard a faint rasping sound. Who was that?" The feeling in his chest grew and he cautiously walked inside. Going to the lump of fur, he noticed Sootpaw and she appeared to be having trouble breathing. Lowering his head to her chest, he listened a bit and felt worried. Without a word, he grabbed her by the scruff and lifted her up. Thankfully she was rather petite as he wasn't very large himself. Carrying her, he made his way to the medicine cat den.

"Alright. I can't wait until they become apprentices. Our kits are going to be strong and smart." He gave her one last nuzzle before turning and exiting the nursery. He would grab her something to eat and then let her be to rest. It was a relief that everything had gone so well.

Laughing softly, he shook his head. "I know that but most cats take time to learn to distribute their weight when they land." His ear twitched as he listened to Shimmerstars story. He hadn't heard that tale since he was a young kit when Leafsong told it to him. It was strange to think that there used to be another clan around as well.

"I just might," he teased before he began to pluck feathers off the thrush. It had quite a few feathers so he wanted to get rid of most of them. He pulled back, a mouthful of feathers and he tried to spit them out but they stuck to his muzzle.

"Of course! It'll run off with its tail between its legs when we are done with it." She said with a soft laugh. Taking the lead, she exited the cave and headed back towards the forest. "Lets get to it. Avoid seeing anymore bickering cats for a while."

"Just leave me alone....." He said, turning so his back faced her. "I just want to be alone for now. Tell Shimmerstar you couldn't find me and I'll take whatever punishment I receive." He said as he rested his head on his paws. Curling his tail around himself, he curled himself into a tighter ball.

"Really? Wow!" She was amazed, her different colored eyes widening. "That's amazing!" She cooed out. "Who is descended from them? Do you know?" She was curious about the other clan and wanted to know more. This was the first time she had heard of them.

She simply nodded and sighed happily. She was actually kind of glad she wasn't so hungry anymore. It was really annoying to eat so much food, she felt guilty when other cats looked at her ravenously eating the prey they had worked so hard for.

Leopardkit continued to wriggle around, then settled with a very uncomfortable looking position. She liked it, though.

Shimmerstar thought back. He had been told the names of the Rainclan warriors, who seemed rather legendary whenever cats talked about them. "Well, a lot of cats joined back then. I think a cat called Shadowheart joined. He was supposedly black with a white underbelly. He's remembered for being Silvermoon's brother. I think a cat called Russetfur joined, she was a long-furred red cat. She was important because she once got attacked by two foxes, but she drove them both out of the territory on her own. At least, that's what I was told." He said. Thinking about it, there were definitely cats who could be descended from Rainclan. "Oh, and a cat called Sandwing, who supposedly knew when it was going to rain. In fact, she apparently predicted the weather a moon before it happened, and she was right! She was sand coloured, of course." He added. The leader froze, then turned to look at Eaglewing, the sand-coloured tom who could predict the weather...

Barkfur chuckled at how ridiculous the tom looked. "Shimmerstar would get in a state if he saw one of his warriors looking like you right now!" He joked. He purred and leaned forward, carefully picking the feathers off of Rabbittail's muzzle with his teeth.

Her eyes widened. She thought her speech was very good, actually. But, Robinpaw seemed unfazed. Warriors listened to their friends. Warriors listened to their leaders, actually. "Why would I tell him I couldn't find you? Why would I not be able to find you? Robinpaw, I can find out exactly what you're doing whenever I like!" She said angrily. If she focused, she could hear him, if he was eating prey or talking to his friends. She could hear him anywhere. That's the power her ancestors had given her, hadn't they?! Hollyheart frowned. She couldn't believe he wanted her to leave. She thought she was his friend! She felt tears come to her eyes. "Fine, Robinpaw! I wanted to help you, but you're just being a stubborn kit! Warriors don't shy away from their problems, they fix them!" She yelled. She ran from the clearing, through the undergrowth towards camp. She could have taken the path, but she'd run into the apprentices. Hollyheart burst through some bushes and saw the cave ahead. Sprinting up there, she stopped at the entrance and wiped her eyes, then padded inside. Her heart was aching. She padded to the medicine den casually. "Pinetail?" She asked, not doing a good job at disguising her sadness.

Hazelpaw frowned. She didn't care about her father's story. She had heard it before. Not the Rainclan cats joining Mistclan, though... She stopped, recognizing who all of those cats were related to. "Oh my gosh!" She exclaimed. "I should go tell Sootpaw!" She said. Without waiting for an okay, she sprinted towards camp. After a little bit of running, she sped up to the cave and burst through. She barely stopped herself from yelling out to Sootpaw. Seeing Rabbittail and Barkfur were back, she went into the Apprentices' den. She blinked. No Sootpaw...?

Pigeoncloud followed Cougarfang happily. "Yes! I can't believe Leopardflight said that! He can't stop Robinpaw from being a warrior, can he?" He asked cheerily. They would make up eventually. If not, Robinpaw would probably get a new mentor. He could tell Leopardflight's outburst was not unprovoked, as the tom was usually shy and quiet. Robinpaw and Leopardflight got on pretty well when they first started working together. Leoparflight probably just let the control get to his head. Actually, Pigeoncloud had a feeling they had argued over something very important to the warrior. After all, he didn't get that angry at a cat just for being cheeky.

Looking over at her, he waved his tail. "Hollyheart I am glad you are back. I need you to mix herbs for Sootpaw." He pressed his ear to her chest again, listening. "I think she might be developing a chest infection. Come listen. Her breath is shallow and raspy." He felt concerned and wondered how long she had felt like this. Why hadn't he noticed sooner? Maybe.....maybe Pigeoncloud was distracting him from his duties. He should have noticed sooner! Sootpaw probably hid it from everyone, expecting it to go away and not realizing how serious it was. "I think it might turn into whitecough."

Grabbing a mouse, he brought it to the nursery and placed it next to his mate. "Here you are. I need to go for now but I'll come back to sleep with you tonight." It was starting to get cold at night and he didn't want her to be lonely as she was the only queen in here. Not to mention he could watch his family if he was with them. "Now get some rest. Call me if you need anything."

Letting his apprentice go, he glanced over at Shimmerstar, not realizing that he could be related to Sandwing. "Interesting. I bet RainClan blood is pretty well mixed into our clan now." He said as he glanced back at his daughter. "I wonder if you are related to any of them Shimmerstar." He lightly bumped the toms shoulder with his.

"Maybe my name with change to Rabbitfeather." He said, spitting out more feathers. Noticing Hazelpaw, he called out to her. "Hey Hazelpaw! How did training go?" He liked talking to the apprentices as he had been one not too long ago. He wiped his paw over his muzzle to remove another feather before playfully placing it on Barkfur's forehead.

"Oh! I know what happened," she said before moving close to Pigeoncloud. "Seems Robinpaw noticed that Leopardflight and Mapleheart are mooning over one another. Seems he said something and....it sent his mentor off. Mapleheart tried to calm the situation and he ended up snapping at both of them. Poor Mapleheart thinks he dislikes her now." She said with a soft sigh. "Some toms can be so hard headed. Robinpaw shouldn't have tried to push the limits and Leopardflight shouldn't have yelled like that. Overall, it was just a bad situation."

Letting her go, he let out a soft sigh. He knew he would have to apologize to Leopardflight but he didn't want to face anyone right now. He had to think about what he wanted to say. Laying there, he closed his eyes as he tried to think of what he should say.

"I bet Leopardflight is related to the one with Shadow in it's name." She said as she trotted along. Seeing the cave, she watched Hazelpaw run off. "She is pretty close with Sootpaw. I am glad they get along." Sometimes she felt worried about her sister as she could be rather quiet and timid. "I wonder how many of our clanmates are descendants."

Spottedpelt took a bite out of the mouse and chewed it lazily for a while, before swallowing it. It did make her feel a little bit more energized. She sighed and looked down at her kits. Leopardkit kept wriggling around. Hopefully she won't always be like that... Spottedpelt thought. She didn't want her kits to be difficult to keep track of. She gasped as Leopardkit kicked at Emberkit.

Wriggling some more, Leopardkit found it difficult to find the right position. She kicked out one of her legs and hit something. She felt too crowded here.

Shimmerstar rolled his eyes. "No, I am most likely pure Mistclan... Maybe a little bit Rainclan descended..." He replied. "When Mistclan was created, they were named for the cats who were a part of it. They were normally silver, white, black or maybe brown. Rainclan was created a little bit after that, so they recruited kittypets and rogues. Cats like Spottedpelt or Robinpaw will have Rainclan ancestors." He said. He suddenly remembered his leader ceremony. There had been some strange cats, but they hadn't told him if they were from Rainclan or not... "Eaglewing, I believe you are descended from Sandwing." He said. A lot of powers cats got were similar to those they were related to.

Barkfur looked up as Hazelpaw padded over. He batted at the feather and placed it on Rabbittail's back, where he couldn't get at it. He struggled not to smile and listened to what Hazelpaw said.

She pushed Robinpaw to the back of her mind and went over to the herbs. She listened carefully to Sootpaw's breathing as she chewed up some catmint. She added some tansy to try prevent it getting worse and put the pulp on a leaf. "Should we wake her up?" She asked, looking over at Pinetail. She didn't want the apprentice to choke. She blinked as she heard Hazelpaw speak. "Have you seen Sootpaw?" Hollyheart looked into the cave, spotting Hazelpaw talking to Barkfur and Rabbittail.

Hazelpaw padded over to Rabbittail and Barkfur. "Well, it rained and then Robinpaw distracted us, but it was okay. Actually, have you seen Sootpaw?" She asked. She felt worried that the she-cat wasn't in her nest.

Sunpaw saw Pinetail taking Sootpaw up to the medicine cat den, with Hollyheart eventually following him. He stood up and padded up to them. "What's wrong with her?" He asked. She was asleep and she looked fine, just cold.

Pigeoncloud nodded. "If a cat likes another cat, you shouldn't stop them. Or push them, actually. Leopardflight is shy, he probably doesn't even know how he feels about Mapleheart. He's only young." He said. He saw Shimmerstar in the distance, but the tom seemed distracted. It was kind of dangerous for Robinpaw to be out in the forest on his own. Especially if there might be a fox around. But, Pigeoncloud was pretty sure his only enemy was Shimmerstar if he didn't hurry up and get back to camp.

The tom swiftly moved to block Sunpaw. "I suggest you leave this den." He didn't want Sunpaw become infected or anything as whitecough was not hard to pass around. It wasn't as bad as greencough but he didn't want to risk it. "She isn't feeling well but we are taking care of her." He turned to Hollyheart,"Go ahead and wake her. We need to try and take care of this quickly."

"Really?" He seemed to think about it. "Maybe. I wonder which of my parents is related to Sandwing." He said as he thought of Leafsong and Kestrelwing. "I never thought that I could be related to a RainClan cat. I haven't heard those stories since I was a kit." He commented softly.

Spottedpelt frowned. Her kits hadn't been in the world a day and already they were fighting. She carefully moved Lionkit and Emberkit away from Leopardkit, who seemed to want her own space. Spottedpelt sighed with relief when they all seemed to settle down. She took another bite out of the mouse, wondering when her kits would start eating prey.

Leopardkit mewed loudly, but a paw was put between her and her brother. She moved around a bit, then settled comfortably, no longer surrounded by her brothers. She yawned quietly and fell asleep.

Shimmerstar blinked. Well, it would make sense for Kestrelwing to be pure Mistclan, or something close to that. "They most likely both have Rainclan blood in them." He said. He looked around the cave, which seemed pretty busy. He spotted Pinetail and Hollyheart up in the medicine cat den, they both looked worried. "Yes, Halfpaw." He said, padding away to the medicine cats. He gasped, spotting Sootpaw. "Pinetail, what happened?" He asked, stepping in front of Sunpaw. He glanced at Hollyheart, confused, as he had not seen Robinpaw.

Barkfur looked up as Shimmerstar padded past them. The tom padded up to the medicine cats' den. "She might be up there." He said, seeing Sunpaw there too. He blinked, looking over at the nursery. "We should visit the kits some time." He said to Rabbittail.

Poking Sootpaw in the side, Hollyheart tried to make her wake up. "Sootpaw, you're sick, how long has this been going on?" She said, gently shaking the apprentice. She looked up as Shimmerstar entered the den, remembering Robinpaw. She decided to not say anything unless he asked about it.

Hazelpaw gasped and looked at the medicine cats' den. "Thanks, bye!" She said quickly, rushing up to where her father was. She stared past him at Sootpaw, who looked weak and ill. She stepped back. "She's sick..." Hazelpaw murmured.

Sunpaw frowned. "But-" He was cut off as Shimmerstar spoke, standing in front of him. Sunpaw stepped back, confused. Why was it such a big deal? He looked down at Sootpaw, who seemed tired, but a bit of sleep and some good prey would probably be all she needed. Hazelpaw padded to stand beside him and spoke quietly. "Wait, really?" He asked. Hazelpaw turned and glared at him. She did that a lot, but he didn't know why. "Hazelpaw, why don't you like me?" He asked. Hazelpaw looked away, digging her claws into the ground. She opened her mouth and shut it a few times, then turned her gaze to Sunpaw. "Because Sootpaw has a crush on you..." She muttered quietly. Sunpaw blinked. Really? He asked himself. He looked down at Sootpaw. He had always thought of her as a good friend... This changed everything...

Pigeoncloud widened his eyes. "Really? But, who?" He asked. He was carefully avoiding the question about who he liked, but he was also quite curious to find out who thought of him that way. He stopped, sniffing the air. Cougarfang was right, there was a fresh scent of fox. He hoped it had not found a nest.

"Plently. Mapleheart has given you a curious look now and then. Even Cougarfang's gaze has lingered on you longer than usual." She purred out, noticing the golden she-cat stiffen a bit in surprise that she had noticed. "Now Pigeoncloud do you like anyone?"

"I need everyone out! Shimmerstar you can stay." He said, not liking all these cats crowding his den. He also didn't need anyone else getting sick. "I believe Sootpaw might have whitecough. She seems to have a mild chest infection so I am hoping we can stop it before it gets worse." He said with a soft sigh. "But all the apprentices are to stay out unless they have an injury or illness."

The tom instantly rushed into the medicine cat den when he saw his kit in there. Going over to his daughter, he began to feel nervous as he looked down at her. "Is she going to be alright?!" He asked, his yellow eyes full of concern. He didn't want to lose his daughter and he glanced at Hollyheart as she woke his daughter.

"That wouldn't hurt." He said before he frowned. "Sootpaw is in the medicine den. Do you think she is okay?" He felt rather concerned and wondered what had happened. Not to mention that Pinetail looked a bit concerned about it. "Maybe we should wait over here. Pinetail doesn't look too happy about having all those cats in his den.

She stiffened at that and looked over at them. "Well Pigeoncloud is good looking but I know we would never work out. We would clash to much and argue more than anything." She said with a wave of her tail as she knew she was right. "The scent leads this way. Come on. We can at least find out if it has a den close by."

The tom slowly came back to camp, entering the cave and heading towards the apprentice den. He was rather tired after all that running and just wanted to sleep.

Groggily lifting her head, she let out a cough as she blinked her eyes a bit. "Whats going on?" She asked in confusion, looking around. Her chest was hurting a bit but she ignored it. When did she get in the medicine cat den?

She stopped when everyone gathered around the medicine cat den and she looked over. "Sootpaw? Sootpaw! Is she okay?" Her eyes widened as she tried to see her better. "Is she sick? What happened?"

Shimmerstar went to sit beside Eaglewing, looking over at Halfpaw. "Halfpaw, we do not want you to get sick. Please go." He said. He shuffled away as Hollyheart stepped in front of him to get to Sootpaw. "I hope this won't be a repeat of last leaf-bare..." He murmured, remembering the two elders who had fallen ill and died. Their relatives were very upset, but it had been four seasons since and they were happy now. He blinked as Barkfur appeared and shouldered him to the side. He glared at Barkfur when he spoke. "I am." Shimmerstar retorted.

Barkfur frowned. He was concerned for her apprentice, but he didn't want to intrude as Pinetail looked so annoyed. Barkfur stared up at Shimmerstar for a moment, then realized this was ridiculous. He stood up and padded into the den. "Worry about your own apprentice." He muttered to his brother, going to sit by Sootpaw. Shimmerstar wasn't going to overshadow him this time.

She glared down at Sootpaw. "You're sick. Why didn't you tell anyone?" She muttered. "This could develop into a deadly illness, Sootpaw." She said, grabbing the herbs and holding them out for Sootpaw to eat. Only now did Hollyheart realize it was unnecessary to chew them up for her, but Sootpaw wouldn't know that. Probably.

Hazelpaw frowned. She wished it wasn't true. "But why do you care?" Asked Sunpaw. Hazelpaw's eyes widened. "Uh... Well..." She stammered. Sunpaw gasped. "Do you-" Hazelpaw quickly put her paw over his mouth and he didn't finish his sentence. She hissed at him quietly, trying to intimidate him. Sunpaw stared at her, unfazed. Hazelpaw turned and hurried away, to the apprentice den. She sat in her nest and licked at her ruffled fur in embarrassment for a moment or two. She blinked, noticing Robinpaw. "Are you okay?" She asked the tom.

Sunpaw blinked at Hazelpaw as she padded away. He didn't expect that. Did she really like Sootpaw? But, if Sootpaw liked him, then was Hazelpaw fated to never have her love be requited? Sunpaw frowned, feeling sorry for the she-cat. He padded over to Halfpaw. "Does Sootpaw like me? I mean, you know, like me?" He asked. He knew it was a forward question, but he had to know the truth. He couldn't bear the thought of making Hazelpaw miserable.

Pigeoncloud looked over at Cougarfang, but dismissed Fawnleap's statement when she denied it. It was true, he probably would just argue with her. He looked back at Fawnleap, annoyed that she had persisted. "No! N-No, I don't like anyone that way." He said, feeling his cheeks get hot.

" Really? That's a shame." She stopped as the fox scent grew incredibly strong. Blinking, she glanced over and noticed a hole in the ground. "That must be it's den...this is bad. We should probably head back to let Shimmerstar know. He can choose which cats should come to chase it out."

The tom didn't like all these cats in here and his tail lashed from side to side. "Alright, everyone out! I don't need any of you getting sick." He saw Eaglewing was going to protest so he began to nudge the tom out. "I will let you know if there are any changes."

The tom frowned as he didn't want to leave his daughter. However, he was forced to back out as Pinetail nudged him out. "I'll check on you later Sootpaw!" He called out.

The tom didn't enter as he had no reason to. Turning, he noticed Eaglewing looking distraught so he went to talk to him. He figured he could try and help him feel better. "Hey Eaglewing."

Growling, her claws buried themselves in the ground as she saw the den. "I hope it didn't have any pups." That was the last thing they needed. "Why can't we drive it out now?"

Looking up at her voice, he felt himself grow warm. "Not really but I will be fine. What about you?" He asked as he turned to look at her. "I rarely see you in here so early."

Pinning her ears back, she lowered her gaze. "I thought I was just tired and it would go away." Coughing, she took the herbs and wrinkled her nose at the taste.

Halfpaw

The question caught her off guard and she wasn't sure how to answer. She never really asked her sister who she liked and she liked Sunpaw as well. "You....you would have to ask her yourself. I mean, I don't know who she likes." Shuffling her paws, she felt a bit nervous. "Do you like anyone?"

Shimmerstar nodded calmly and lead his brother out of the medicine cat den. "Eaglewing, she will be fine. I trust Hollyheart and Pinetail to do all they can for her." He said to the tom. Shimmerstar waved his tail in farewell to the cats and looked around the cave. Fawnleap is on a patrol, isn't she? He asked himself. "Oh!" He murmured, hurrying to the nursery. He quietly looked inside. The kits were beautiful and Spottedpelt was sleeping with them. Shimmerstar carefully padded over and took the bones of a mouse Spottedpelt had eaten. Glancing one last time at the little kits, he left to dispose of the bones.

Barkfur grumbled to himself, but let his brother lead him out. He went back to Rabbittail, smiling as the tom's scent filled the air. "Rabbittail, let's go to the top of the mountain!" He said suddenly. The top of the mountain was a beautiful place and Barkfur wanted to tell Rabbittail something very important.

She sighed, trying to relax. "Well, all that matters is that we can stop it getting worse." She said, trying to be positive. She sat still, concentrating on listening to Sootpaw's breathing. Her mind kept going back to Robinpaw, though, and she heard him and Hazelpaw talking.

Hazelpaw frowned. "Sootpaw is sick." She said. She lay down and sighed, looking over at him. She felt uncomfortable, noticing the way he seemed to look at her. It was the same way Sootpaw looked at Sunpaw. Hazelpaw looked away, pretending that a stick was digging into her side.

Sunpaw shrugged. "Not really. But if someone told me they felt that way about me, I would probably start liking them back. After all, I don't see myself liking anyone if my love will be unrequited. But if Sootpaw likes me, I will not return her feelings until she tells me." He said. If a cat were to like him, he would want them to prove it. He could not be with someone who was not honest with him, even if they were scared. He looked into Halfpaw's eyes. "I suppose it's just down to who's the first to tell me."

Pigeoncloud held back a sigh of relief. "Because, Cougarfang, if it does have pups, it will take more than three cats to beat it. And anyway, we should get someone like Foxpelt or Spottefpelt to fight it. They are some of the best fighters." He said. It was true, they were the strongest cats in the clan. Leopardflight could probably help. Pigeoncloud was rather jealous of the cats who got powers like jumping or fighting skills.
