Shimmerstar glanced at Hollyheart. "Can you help her?" He mouthed. The she-cat just frowned at him, grief in her gaze. Shimmerstar looked back at Leafheart, not sure what to say.

Hollyheart opened her mouth, but she couldn't say anything. She couldn't stop this. Standing up, the she-cat bounded into the medicine cats' den, grabbing some herbs. She put them into a leaf bundle and hurried back down to the elder. "Right, okay. Poppy seeds for pain, Chamomile for strength, Daisy leaves for joints, Juniper berries for troubled breathing..." Hollyheart trailed off, struggling to stop tears flooding her eyes.

Hazelpaw felt sadness in her heart as she saw Hollyheart struggling not to cry. "She's going to be with her brother." Hazelpaw murmured quietly, remember how Leafheart often told the apprentices stories about the tom. Hazelpaw could barely remember anything about him, but she knew Leafheart had been close with him right until the day he died.

Sunpaw nodded. "Loosing your kin is really hard." He murmured. Sunpaw didn't know about loosing a cat he was related to, but he was still sad that he would never see his housefolk again. They were more his kin than any cat.

Leopardflight didn't notice when a cat bumped into him. "She's going to Starclan soon." He whispered. "She'll be at peace there." Leopardflight watched as the elder ate some herbs she had been given.

Leafheart stared at the kits, overwhelmed by how adorable they were. She nodded as Hollyheart put herbs in front of her. "Thank you." She breathed through the pain, not taking her eyes off of the young ones as she ate the herbs. She let out a sigh of relief as the pain became less intense, though it still ate at her. "There isn't any hope left, is there?" She asked Pinetail, blinking up at the tom.

Pigeoncloud's heart filled with grief as he realized that this was the end of Leafheart's life. She'd be in Starclan soon. Pigeoncloud flicked his ear, remembering Leafheart's brother, who had died about two leafbares ago.

Rowanbranch was surrounded by grief, it was unbearable. Mainly because it wasn't just his own. He breathed in and out, trying to calm down. Sitting up, he looked at Leafheart. "Are you going to Starclan?" He asked quietly.

Barkfur shuffled out of the way for Pinetail. He glanced at Rabbittail, who was staring at Leopardflight and Mapleheart. Barkfur placed his tail on Rabbittail's shoulder, frowning at Leafheart.

Hazelheart blinked at Blackwhisker. "What is it? Have you been told something?" She asked, padding to stand beside the she-cat. Hazelheart glanced at the pool, focusing on Rowanbranch. She felt horrible for the tom, he had lost Whisperheart and then her father, now he would be without any relatives.

Owlberry scoffed. "What, do you think I'll take her to the Place Of No Stars?" He growled, glaring at the she-cat. "Let me remind you I have brought many cats here already, and Leafheart is one of only three cats I would give my life for." He snapped. The only cat he valued more than Leafheart was his daughter. "That list would be four, but I can't even sacrifice myself for-" Owlberry stopped, not daring to say her name. She wasn't important anyway.

Spottedpelt purred as Emberkit pawed at Leafheart. She shuffled Lionkit and Leopardkit closer to the elder. It was good that Leafheart wasn't sick, these kits wouldn't catch age any time soon.

Lionkit growled as he was pushed towards a cat. He sniffed the air, it smelt strange. Like where he had slept, but more... Flavourful? What was it? He crawled forward, feeling something underneath his paw. It seemed familiar, but it wasn't a cat.

Leopardkit could smell herbs. Well, she didn't know that they were herbs, but the scent was interesting. She scrambled towards the smell, bumping into Lionkit with a squeak.

Silently watching, her gaze was full of sadness and grief as she was unable to help. Bowing her head, she hoped Leafheart wouldn't be in too much pain when she passed.

At Leafhearts question, he felt a small pang in his chest and shook his head. "I'm sorry." He felt the pain she felt in her own body and knew it well enough. Her body was giving up and it was her time. "StarClan will happily accept a cat like you in their ranks." He glanced over at Rowanbranch when he spoke to Leafheart. "I'm sorry but it's time."

Staying pressed against him, she merely remained silent and watched the others. This was all too much.

Shifting back, she decided to let those who knew Leafheart better be able to move closer. She wasn't particularly close to the she-cat so it would be best to let someone else who was take her spot.

Brought back to the present, he turned to Leafheart once more. It made him realize his age difference with Barkfur and he felt concerned. Would he lose him anytime soon? He didn't want that and it made him notice how precious time really was.

Watching his kits, he moved to sit next to Spottedpelt. "I'm sure they would have loved to hear one of your stories, Leafheart." It was a shame his kits wouldn't get the chance to remember her.

Pinning his ears back, it was becoming too much and he turned away. Padding to the warriors den, he slipped inside and sat in his nest. Death bothered him and he couldn't watch anymore.

Glancing at her father, she felt a pang at the idea of him passing. As he left, she tried to shake the thought away. "I don't want to lose any of my kin. I would miss them too much." She was glad her father wasn't too old and should be around for many moons.

He felt bad for Rowanbranch, hoping he would be okay. Some cats changed after losing someone and a few turned anti-social. Hopefully this wouldn't be the case for him.

Shimmerstar sighed. "You were a brilliant warrior, Leafheart. Good luck." He murmured, painfully aware of the she-cat's breathing becoming weaker.

Hollyheart sat with Pinetail, not sure what to say. Cats were thanking Leafheart. Hollyheart wondered if she should too, but she would just be repeating what the others had said.

Hazelpaw wasn't sure what to say. She simply watched, grief consuming her. Leafheart was so kind to her and the other apprentices. She always made them happier.

Sunpaw blinked at Leafheart. "Thank you for telling us stories and inspiring us." He said. It was true. Leafheart had talked about when a cat named Badgerstrike had found a rabbit's nest during Leaf bare. Since then Sunpaw made sure to take notes of his surroundings, where mice went on cold days and when thrushes liked looking for bugs.

Leopardflight didn't notice when a cat bumped into him. "She's going to Starclan soon." He whispered. "She'll be at peace there." Leopardflight watched as the elder ate some herbs she had been given.

Leafheart felt weaker every heart beat. She closed her eyes, her breathing shallow. She nodded as cats spoke to her. "I am glad I could give this clan the love it gave me." Leafheart murmured.

Pigeoncloud padded forward and quietly spoke to the elder. "Thank you for always being there for us." He murmured, before stepping back to let another cat talk to Leafheart.

Rowanbranch cleared his throat. "Thank you for being my kin, even if not by blood." He said quietly, carefully trying to avoid taking in other cats' emotions.

Barkfur blinked. He wondered if he should say something, but other cats had already thanked her for what Barkfur would have. He leaned against Rabbittail, sighing.

Hazelheart frowned. "That's terrible. I hope it won't be an apprentice." She murmured, glancing at the young cats. Hazelheart wondered if she should try influence them to do something, but there was nothing left any cat could do but watch.

Owlberry sighed. "I know. I'm sorry." He muttered. He looked over at the pool. He would have to step into it, that's what Starclan did when they entered the alive world.

Spottedpelt shuffled her kits together, not wanting them to get cold. She licked each of them, then looked at Leafheart. "Thank you for always caring for cats who need it most." She murmured.

Lionkit snuggled into his mother's warm fur, purring despite the sad cats around him.

Leopardkit was pulled towards her mother and she lay down, relaxing.

Leafheart blinked at Leafsong. "I will be waiting." She murmured, taking her final breath. Leafheart opened her eyes. "I'm..." She trailed off, looking around. She was alarmed to realize her own body was beneath her. The other cats couldn't see her, it seemed.

Shimmerstar stared at Leafheart. He cleared his throat, looking around. "You may sit vigil for Leafheart if you like. I know some cats deal with grief in different ways." Shimmerstar glanced over at Fawnleap. "Tomorrow." He murmured, looking back at Leafheart.

Hollyheart nodded and followed Pinetail to the medicine cat den. She glanced back, Leafheart was gone. Hollyheart sighed. Maybe she could have done something. Maybe she should have checked the elders daily. Leafheart's health had been slowly worsening, but Hollyheart hadn't thought to treat it. She thought there was more time.

Hazelpaw padded away, the medicine cats were going to do something before the clan could sit vigil. She lay beside the apprentice's den, watching as her father spoke.

Sunpaw blinked as Halfpaw went to sit with Eaglewing. Looking back at Leafheart, Sunpaw wasn't sure what he was meant to do now. He knew clan cats sat vigil when a cat had died. Sunpaw wasn't sure if he was supposed to do this, but he decided he wanted to.

Leopardflight sighed. Leafheart was gone. He stood up and stretched, looking around. He would not be sitting vigil for the whole night.

Standing back, Pigeoncloud glanced at Rowanbranch. The young tom must be very upset. "It's going to be okay, Rowanbranch." Pigeoncloud murmured, not sure how to comfort the warrior.

Rowanbranch's heart broke when Leafheart stopped breathing. He stared at her, waiting for her to move. To say something. Pigeoncloud's voice cut off Rowanbranch's thoughts. He nodded. "I know. I just wish she had more time."

Barkfur sighed. "We have to." He said to Rabbittail. The elder was dead and Barkfur couldn't help wondering when his own time would come. Who would say goodbye to him? Who would be waiting in Starclan?

Hazelheart shook her head. "She's gone." She murmured, looking at Owlberry. The tom simply padded into the pool.

Owlberry's heart skipped a beat. She was dead. The tom hurried into the pond, emerging into the cave of wonders. He hadn't been here in a while, it was the same mostly, with some extra herbs growing in the soft light of the pool. Owlberry headed towards the camp.

Spottedpelt sat for a moment, acknowledging the elder was gone. She picked up her kits, not wanting them to get sick, and taking them back to the nursery. "I will make sure they know who you are, Leafheart." She promised.

Nodding, she moved back but decided to sit vigil tonight. She would miss the elder but at least she wouldn't be in pain anymore.

"Grab the mint from the back so we can use it for Leafheart." He said, looking for herbs for strength so he could help the elders dig a hole at dawn. He knew Kestrelwing and Leafsong would need it so they don't get tired out too quickly.

Picking up Leopardkit, he helped his mate carry them back towards the nursery. Carefully setting his daughter down inside, he lightly licked the small kits cheek. "I'm sad they won't remember meeting her. They would have loved all her stories."

Sighing, he turned to his daughter and softly nudged her side. "You should go and get some rest." He said as he stood up himself. "You'll need your rest. Training will still continue after all." He padded over to the warriors den, slipping inside and going to his nest.

"Yes father. Good night." She glanced at Sunpaw before trotting over to the apprentice den. Going to her nest, she curled up in it and tried to not think about how things would be different with Leafheart gone.

Licking his mates shoulder, he let her lean against him as he knew she would stay up tonight. Sensing how sad she was, he wrapped his fluffy tail around her to help keep her warm. "It'll be okay. You'll see her again one day and it'll be like old times where you two can complain about my snoring and share stories of when you were younger."

Owlberry padded into the cave and waited for Leafheart to realize what was happening. After a moment, she looked around, seeming lost. "Took you a while." He said as he walked towards her. He struggled to keep emotion from seeping into his voice. "I missed you." He murmured, allowing himself a moment to be vulnerable.

Leafheart jumped at a voice behind her. "Owlberry!" She smiled, rubbing her cheek against his. She sighed. "I missed you too, brother." She said quietly. She couldn't hear or see her clanmates, everything was blurry and muffled.

Shimmerstar moved back for the medicine cats to put herbs on the elder. He sat patiently, glancing around camp. He saw his brother with Rabbittail, giving the younger cat a smile. Shimmerstar knew that smile. It was the same smile Shimmerstar had seen when he looked in the puddles he used to jump in with Hazelheart. It was the same smile his mate had when she told him she loved him. Barkfur seemed to realize he was being watched and turned to look at Shimmerstar. He rolled his eyes at the questioning expression the leader gave him and said something to Rabbittail.

Hollyheart grabbed the strong scented herbs and padded down to Leafheart. Carefully she began covering the elder in the herbs. The scent of death wasn't there yet, but it wasn't something cats wanted to deal with all night.

Hazelpaw glanced up at the medicine cat den. She could just see Sootpaw, who was looking down at Leafheart. Hazelpaw sighed and stretched, waiting for the okay that she could go to be with Leafheart. The elder had told her stories of Hazelpaw's mother. She had talked about how brave the warrior was. How kind and loving she had been to everyone. But she had also made Hazelheart more than a nursery story. She was a real cat. Leafheart had told her funny stories about Hazelpaw's mother, how she made mistakes but did her best to fix them. Hazelpaw got to know her mother, not just a cat in a story, because of Leafheart.

Sunpaw shuffled away so the medicine cats could put herbs on the elder. He sighed, glancing at the other elders. He frowned. What would it be like if Sootpaw or Hazelpaw died? Or Halfpaw? No, they weren't dead. Not yet. Not like Leafheart...

Leopardflight shook his head. "No. There's a lot to do in the morning and with so many cats so heavily effected by this we have to be strong for them." He said. He felt a bit guilty for not sitting vigil for the elder, but he was sure she would understand.

Pigeoncloud glanced outside. It was dark. He was supposed to meet Pinetail. He felt anger that he couldn't go, then scolded himself. How selfish could he be? He needed to focus on Leafheart.

Rowanbranch sighed. "You don't have to do that." He murmured. He wanted her to, though. He needed someone to pull him out from this daze. Leafheart wasn't gone. She couldn't be. Rowanbranch stared at his paws, struggling with his emotions. His breath caught. He was feeling pity. He looked around. Someone was feeling pity. He turned to Cougarfang, trying to search her eyes. Was she pitying him? Did she just want to feel better about herself for comforting the cat who lost all his kin?

Barkfur smiled at Rabbittail. He wanted to join the tom. To curl up in a nest and sleep next to him. His smile faltered, feeling eyes on him. He turned around, then pin-pointed the location. His brother was staring at him and threw him a confused look. Barkfur rolled his eyes. This was none of Shimmerstar's business. He turned back to Rabbittail, smiling. "Catch me something?" He asked cheekily.

Hazelheart looked into the pool. She focused on Fawnleap. Hazelheart knew it was a strange idea, but she didn't know what to do. Shimmerstar was in love with someone else. That was okay, but would he love Hazelheart in Starclan? Or Fawnleap? Hazelheart was afraid of the answer.

Spottedpelt lay the kits down in the nest and curled herself around them. It had been a long day. She was exhausted, she couldn't sit vigil. She couldn't leave her kits alone. She wanted to sit vigil for Leafheart. Acknowledge the life she lived and that she was gone. But she couldn't right now. She was sure the elder would understand.

She watched Hazelheart work as the prepared the body. The whole clan was rather somber and quiet as everyone was affected by Leafhearts death.

Finding some herbs, he quickly made two small packs wrapped in leaves so he could give Kestrelwing and Leafheart both a pack. Once that was done, he headed back out to help Hazelheart. "Do you plan to sit vigil tonight?" He asked softly.

"Yes. And I am sure quite a few will sit vigil for Leafheart." She padded past Leopardflight, letting her fluffy tail drag along his cheek and under his chin. "Lets get some rest."

Her blue eyes showed concern, wanting to be there for a clanmate. "But I want to. Everyone deserves to have someone there for them when things like this happen." She said softly. Wrapping her fluffy tail around his neck, she pulled him over to where the vigils were held. "Sit here. I'll stay right by your side for it."

"I always do!" He gave his cheek a quick lick before turning and disappearing into the warriors den to get some sleep.

The tom settled down onto his stomach, nudging Spottedpelts side. "Why don't you join the others. I can watch the kits for now. If they get hungry, I can come and get you." He said, wanting to let her sit vigil as she had been close to Leafheart.

Going to his nest, he laid down on it with a sigh. Curling up, he curled his tail over his muzzle as he let his body relax.

Mewling softly, he found himself crawling against an extremely warm and furry body. The scent was familiar and it took him a moment to realize it was his father and not his mother.

The tom was crouched at the entrance to the cave, his eyes narrowed. So this was the clan his father had told him about. He curled his lip in disgust as he wondered which one was his kin. How he disliked the clan as his father had become intrigued by them and even left his mother for another she-cat here. Shaking his head, he pulled back before someone noticed him. Thankfully it was easy to disguise his scent. All he had to do was mask his scent with the other cats' scent.

"Come with me. We will be in Starclan soon." Owlberry began walking towards the entrance. He barely acknowledged the path of stars leading them to the cave of wonder. There was a cat here. He wasn't a clan cat. "Follow the path and wait for me in the cave." He said to Leafheart, letting his sister past him. He turned to the rogue, watching as he slowly moved away from the cave. Owlberry followed the tom, allowing the rogue to see him. Though, Owlberry wondered if the rogue would notice if he couldn't scent or hear the Starclan cat.

Leafheart was curious as to why her brother was stopping, but she just nodded and walked down the path. She blinked at the sparkles on the ground. They looked like stars. Maybe they were. She tried to pick one up, but it wouldn't move. Were they real? Leafheart's breath caught in her throat. Was she even real anymore? She shook her head and pushed away the thoughts, padding into the cave to wait.

Shimmerstar sat patiently, his tail curled around his paws. He wondered if Leafheart was in Starclan yet. The first time Shimmerstar had died, his mother was waiting for him. She was sitting with a cat and Shimmerstar thought it was his father, but he was shocked to see himself. The strange clone of him didn't say anything, but his mother told him this was the life he'd lost. It would be different for Leafheart. Would she see the copy of him in Starclan?

"If you want I can take over medicine duties tomorrow so you can sit vigil." She murmured. She flicked her ears, hearing something outside the cave. She decided it was just a bird and turned back to Pinetail.

Hazelpaw fidgeted with a pebble. She didn't like waiting here. She felt trapped. She flicked her paw and scowled as the pebble flew away. Now she had no Leafheart and no pebble.

Sunpaw glanced at the medicine cats, careful not to eavesdrop. Was he allowed to be a part of the vigil now? How were you supposed to do that? He hadn't actually had a cat he knew die before.

Leopardflight shivered as Mapleheart's tail brushed his cheek. He nodded and went into the den, laying down in his- no, their nest. "Goodnight, Mapleheart." He murmured as the she-cat curled up next to him.

Pigeoncloud looked at Pinetail. The tom was worried. Was he worried that he couldn't talk to Pigeoncloud? Was he worried Pigeoncloud didn't like him? No, he's worried about Leafheart. Pigeoncloud barely stopped himself from growling. Why was he being so self-centred? Now was not the time to worry about whatever Pinetail thought of him, now was the time to be sad about Leafheart's death.

Rowanbranch smiled weakly. "Thank you." He murmured. He still felt pity, but it wasn't Cougarfang. Hopefully. He glanced around the cave, trying to search for the cat. He couldn't tell who it was, maybe he was just imagining it.

Barkfur's cheeks were hot as he watched Rabbittail leave. He wondered if this was what Shimmerstar had felt. One night he had collapsed in the apprentice's nest and Barkfur had to listen to him go on and on about how adorable Hazelheart was and he babbled on and on trying to describe how he felt. He settled with 'like my stomach is made of butterflies and my head is as light as a cloud.' which Barkfur thought pretty accurately described how he was feeling right now. Wait, does that mean I love Rabbittail?

Hazelheart sighed and sat back, glancing at the other Starclan cats. She couldn't ask them for help. They didn't understand. She loved Shimmerstar and he loved her back, but he loved Fawnleap too. Hazelheart couldn't change how he felt and she didn't want him to be alone until he died.

Spottedpelt smiled weakly. "I can't stay the whole night, but I would like to be there for a while." She murmured. She stood up and licked Foxpelt's cheek before going into the main cave. The vigil would be starting soon.
