ice
With the world frozen over.
No land
No light
The day seems a dark time,
Though all
Is white
Ruins and wreckage,
All that
Remain
Can we survive?
We’re all
Insane.
The world is over; ended in
Cities are basically just shells. Buildings that survived have been ransacked and torn apart or- in a few cases, and I mean a very few cases- renovated into hide outs for those desperately clinging to the memory of civilization. Those who have survived this long are those with the wit and the biological ability to do so, meaning that most people- wait, let me qualify- most humans are out.
Some animals seemed to have adapted to the new found harsh environment more easily than did humans, so when the power lines finally froze and there were too few survivors to keep the plants running even if they could, the ending world became a dog- eat- man kind of place to be.
And that’s just what happened.
For centuries, people have speculated about werewolves and vampires. For the last decade, moronic teenagers, producers, and authors have turned them into pop-icons and fan-based foolishness. When the world ends, they rise up and are, at long last, revealed for what they really are.
Contagious? Yes.
Deadly? Yes.
Real?
Good Question…
But now they are in the world of Ice, where that word, that idea, takes on a whole new meaning.

"ONE...
-government-
-prayer-
-chance-
-future-
-world-
As ONE,
We can survive."
The Shelter is what's left of the subway system of a large city. Underground, the one hundred and fifteen people who live there are able to protect themselves from the unbearable cold of the exterior world and the unquenchable thirst of the terrible creatures outside. Power is available at almost all times, but the citizens live on harsh rations on all things- food, water, power, even privacy. There are no secrets among the condemned.
The government in place consists of a board of the oldest members and a total democracy. Every decision ever made- if possible- comes to a vote from all citizens of Shelter, no matter their age.
The young men and women of Shelter are well trained in fighting and surviving in the cold. They hunt for and protect Shelter on the outside. All survivors here are trained to kill anything non-human on sight.
Such must be so, for the good of the race.

Vampires
are soulless,
evil monsters.
Cunning,
Powerful,
Without compassion.

They are vicious, unfeeling, repulsive creatures. They follow the rule of one King and one spiteful Queen. They can survive sunlight only after a great many years and a great deal of preparation, which isn't much of a problem any more with the weather as it has been. When they're strong enough- newly made or after a fresh kill- they may assume human form. At such times as these, they are truthfully breathtakingly stunning humans- appearing as perfect humans in all ways with only three exceptions:
♦Their skin is white as alabaster, and cold as snow- a side effect of being dead- and gains slight color only for an hour or so after a kill.
♦Their eyes tend to be somewhat luminous and between black, purple, and red.
♦They have long, sharp, poisonous fangs.Vampire blood lust is powerful and, while they can survive on animals, they cannot do so for ever and are never inclined to attempt such a feat.

"And So,
Wolf Became
Man's Best
Friend."
There is a thin bright lining on this story. In the ice fields and forests around the city, a pack lives. They are strong, powerful hunters with strength beyond the imagination. They walk on all fours as often as stooped over their powerful two hind legs. Thick, shaggy fur covers their vaguely human wolf bodies when they take their most powerful form. They are able to shift human whenever they wish, though it is always easier to take and maintain that form during the day. As humans, their hearing, eyesight, and sense of smell are greatly improved, but as wolves their senses, strengths, and abilities are just as keen as those of the vampires.Best yet, the wolves fight for the human cause. They are lead by Alphas- the oldest members of the pack who, as it so happens, are brother and sister- and all other members are equal. The wolves are most interested in saving as many members of the human race as possible. Each of them was once a human, with a few very young exceptions that have been born to were-parents. However, no one- not even the Alphas- can remember how the breed got started. All that they know is that they are the most adapt creatures to dwell in this new frozen waste land Earth has become. Thick fur protects their bodies when they're shifted, and even when they're human it takes a great deal to get them cold.
They are also the most adapt to take on the Vampires. Vampire venom has no affect on the werewolves, though obviously the bites still cause a great deal of damage.
Still, countless wolves have died protecting the humans- particularly the ones at Shelter.
If only the humans knew that...

Still, in the hope of helping as many as possible, the Alphas leave letters such as these all over the city- wherever they can to help lost Shelter dwellers, or- better yet- any who've managed to survive on their own for this long.
"My name is Danika Jean Devon.
I've got little time, so I’ll make this brief.
If you’re reading this, you must know there is still hope.
You are not alone.
Go to the forest; We can help you.
Just remember:
“D” Sent You, and God is watching over you.
