Astraea heard a familiar voice in the kitchen and looked up to see Josh walking in with Eider, carrying an enormous box between them. A smile lit her face and she gently shoved the toddlers (now 3 of them were on her) off her lap. "Grandaddy!" she squealed, running over beaming. Josh set the box down on the island and got down on his knees so that when she hugged him they were at the same height. "Hey, baby girl! How's my beautiful Astraea?" he asked, hugging her and lifting her onto one leg. Astraea giggled and shrugged. "I'm doing okay. Isaac and Auntie Sorrel have been keeping be company." Sorrel, the daughter of Simon and Josh's twin sister Gia, was a private detective who ran around the world solving murder cases. She did not have any Elemental powers, but she did have enhanced intelligence and an ability to see through lies or schemes. Despite the fact that Josh absolutely despised Simon to the point where long ago, when they, Jasmine, Gia, and Colter had been the only Elementals, he had tried to kill Simon multiple times, he still had room to love Simon's kids and grandkids. "Happy birthday, my little Shadow," he said quietly, as if the words were meant only for Astraea. He pulled another present, this one a very small, perfectly wrapped box, out of his back pocket. "Your Grandmommy Jaz doesn't know about this present; I got is especially for you," he said, smiling and handing it to her. Astraea carefully unwrapped it and took of the lid of the box, gasping at what she saw inside: it was a small silver chain with a black symbol hanging from it-- the Shadow Demon's Mark. It resembled the side of a cat's head, with one large red eye and a large, shredded black cat ear. She could see the reflection of a sea of blood in the eye, and scars were visible beneath the fur. The end of the cats head faded into a swirling design, almost like a music note, then ending in a sharp point that was red, unlike the rest of the black design. "Oh, Grandaddy, it's beautiful..." Astraea said, admiring the necklace. She knew it would seem creepy and scary to anyone else, but to her, it was just a piece of who she was. Don't ever try to hide who you are or try to be someone else just because other people can't see your beauty, Josh had said once. You may be half-blooded, but the other half is angel. She smiled and put the necklace on, admiring the way it complimented her black shirt. "Thanks, Joshie," she said, hugging him again.
