Eider had, for once, left his ears un-glamoured, allowing them to poke out above his spiky silver hair. His pants had been tailored specially for him, with a small tear just big enough for his tail to be pulled through, but not reveal anything else. His grey tail curled up slightly in his excitement, and he heard Jasmine giggle between her sobs. After the marriage ceremony was the toast, in which the best man gave a speech. Everyone gathered around and sat at the many tables that were set up outside the wedding hall. Eider sat down beside Mavis, holding her hand. He smiled as his best man Oliver walked to the front of the room, clinking a fork against his empty glass to get everyone's attention. Oliver smiled at everyone, his easy, honest smile that everyone seemed to love about him. He laughed before he started speaking. "Well everyone, I don't think any of us saw the day Eider would get married," he began, and a chorus of laughter broke out through the room. Eider rolled his eyes, but he was grinning too. "Those of you who are here only for the lovely bride may not know this story, but the many friends of Eider I'm sure will remember this. When I was 5 and Eider was 3, that boy was a demon. Like, literally! He looked as adorable as now, but with that cute baby touch, you know? Oh, and of course his face always looked like he wanted to murder someone." Eider made a coughing sound and Jasmine giggled, Mira, sitting to Mavis's right, smiled and shook her head, remembering the time. "Yes, believe it or not, that wonderful man right there used to be an adorable little devil. Ah, he was such a good friend. I'd toss him a ball, and he'd pop it with his claws and growl at me. I'd get him a present, and he'd throw it at my face. My dad would take us swimming, and he'd try to drown me. We were best friends from birth." More laughter, and an angry look from Eider. "But this fantastic man managed to get over that phase, and as much as I loved having things thrown at me, I can't say I wasn't glad. From that evil, demonic child Eider grew into the man he is today, wearing a tuxedo and kissing the lovely lady sitting beside me." He winked at Mavis, and Eider smirked. "Eider and I have always been friends, and even though I don't know Mavis as well, I could tell from the day I met her they were meant to be. I mean, look at them! They're like, the only 2 people in the world with animal ears and tails! What better couple could there be?" Josh glanced over at Jasmine and rolled his eyes. Of course Oliver would make jokes in his speech. He was, well, Oliver. "As jealous I am of my cousin, getting married and all that, I'm proud to call these two my cousin and, uh, cousin-in-law. They've been through a lot to get this far in their relationship. I remember the first time they came to my house together; it was back in 10th grade. I was dead when they first started going out, so unfortunately I missed the awkward beginning, but I was there for the middle phase: the phase when a couple doesn't know how far they can take their relationship without getting in trouble. They were always kissing on each other, smiling and flirtin' in the halls. You could tell they loved each other just by the looks in their eyes. Then one day, Mavis and Eider made the first great mistake of their relationship: they went to a party. With alcohol. Now, Eider here is not a drunkie, but thanks to his Lord-of-the-Dead father, the kid got the taste of alcohol at age 11. Never much, just a sip here and there. But in 10th grade, Eider realized how much of a wimp he is and that he can only have 3 shots before he's totally wasted. That night he had 5." There were some surprised gasps, and Eider cleared his throat. "Oliver, do you have to--?" "Shut up groom, I'm the best man. Anyways, Mavis and I were talking to a friend when we saw Eider down the hall, getting into a fight with some dudes way bigger than he was. Eider was a disaster, let me tell ya'll. His hair was a mess, his shirt was ripped, and his was still holding a beer, despite how drunk he was. He said he saw someone look at Mavis and wanted to beat him up. Well, turns out tat person was a girl, and it was Mavis's best friend Mira. Course, Eider couldn't tell a thing that was going on around him. Mira's boyfriend came over and knocked him straight out with one punch. Mavis, Mira, and I dragged Eider back to his house by the collar of his shirt, since he'd done barfed on the front." Eider covered his eyes, as if he was afraid people would see he was laughing at the horrible memory. He glanced out of the corner of his eye at Mavis and grinned. "Why did I choose him to be my best man, again?" he asked quietly. Oliver continued, "His hangover was so bad he had to stay home from school for the next 3 days! Jaz and Josh were furious, and told him he could never go to another party until he graduated. Mavis was furious too, since her date made a fool of himself in front of all her friends. Eider hasn't gotten drunk since then, let me tell you, the man learned his lesson. In fact, he even said tonight he wanted to toast to a non-alcoholic beverage. A thoughtful idea, except I smacked him and said, 'what are you thinking, dude?! Nobody wants to toast anything other than champagne!' So ya'll can thank me you've got a glass of it in your hands now. Now, I want a taste of that good stuff myself, so let's have a toast! A toast to new beginnings! A toast to friendship! And most importantly, a toast to the wonderful future of this lovely couple." He raised his glass, and everyone gave each other a toast. Eider turned to Mavis with a smile and tapped the rim of his glass against hers. "Well, that was quite a speech. I'm just glad he didn't tell about the beach," he laughed.
