1x1 with The Ninth One

[Jeydon]

Wren followed close behind Jake, soon overtaking him to lead the way. He continued silently up the staircase for several levels, before stopping and heading off a thin bridge onto the outer platform, allowing access to all the doors on that level. Wren hesitated here, looking doubtfully at a door almost directly in front of him. After a minute, he turned back to Jake.
"I'm not sure if it's possible, Jake," Wren said suddenly, his tone solemn.

Jake followed Wren and looked around as he did. He listened as Wren spoke. “Wren, you can’t think like that. Talking negatively will not help us do better. We need to think positive and work together to come up with the solution. We can solve this but it may take a few tries to really do it.” He said. “Open the door and lets go in. Don’t totally drain yourself but try to hang on as long as you can. Then we can go faster through it next time.” He said to him.

[Jeydon]

"No, Jake, I- I can't do it. I just... can't."
This display of weakness was almost unheard of from Wren. Never before had he admitted that he honestly couldn't do something, yet here he was, insisting that it was beyond his capabilities to face whatever was beyond that door. He had opened that door before, many times, and had stepped through it nearly an equal amount. That wasn't the problem. Although he had come before it, never before had Wren truly faced what was beyond that door.

Jake watched him. He knew that it was something that would be hard for him. He took both of his hands in his. “Wren... Wren... look at me. This time is different. Whatever is behind that door, no matter how much it hurts, you have me. I am only here for you and it will be hard, but it will be easier with each other. You have to open this door and face what is inside or you will be held captive by your own mind. I will be right here. “ He said looking into his eyes.

[Jeydon]

"I am already held captive by my own mind, Jake. I've been held captive by my own mind for the past seven years. I can't do it, Jake. I've never been able to before, and I never will be able to. It's... I'm not as strong as it is. I never will be. This is the one thing I cannot do. I've come to accept that, and although you don't even know half of what this is, you need to as well."
Wren looked away as he said this, shifting uncomfortably as Jake took his hands.

Jake shook his head. “Wren. You brought me here so that we can do this. I will do everything I can. It will be okay. I am here for you. I know that you are not used to facing this with someone else but I will do everything I can to make this as easy for you as possible. We have to try.” He said looking at him. “It will be okay.” He said to him. He let go of him. “You have to open the door.” He said to him.

[Jeydon]

"No, Jake, you can't- you don't-" Wren paused, turning abruptly away as Jake released his hands, arms dropping to his sides, "You may know what it's like to be the chosen one, but this is something that, as far as I know, you know nothing about. You can't help me. The most skilled inhumans in this world can't help me. No one can help me."
Wren spoke with conviction, his voice heavy with the weight of the inner turmoil of many years.

Jake looked at Wren. “You have to be strong. I have more power than I have let on but you have to trust me and we have to try. But you have to open the door so we can see what we are up against. If you don’t, I will. We have already done too much to just quit now. We are not giving up without a fight even if you don’t like it. We will do this and we will win.” Jake said to Wren. He watched him to see what he was going to do.

[Jeydon]

"There is no 'we' in this, Jake. Go ahead, open the door. It's perfectly safe for you," Wren paused, continuing after he let out a quiet sigh, slipping his hands into his pockets, "This isn't giving up. This is knowing my limits. And my limit is facing what's beyond that door."
Wren's steady conviction never wavered - he sounded almost entirely sure of the words he spoke. Almost.

Jake sighed. “I know that you have to do this, and I know that you believe that you can’t, but you can. You can do amazing things but you have to try.” Jake said and opened the door and looked inside. He then grabbed Wren’s arm and tried to drag him through the door. He was not sure if he was strong enough but he had to try.
