Brief character description: Kind of edgy. She's spent a lot of time wandering on her own, but cares a lot for her twin brother. Has an empathy link with him through the magically-enhanced pendant she keeps around her neck. Mainly what the link does is let them share their emotions with one another. Most of the stuff she does is reactionary, and she doesn't spend very much time thinking about what she's doing before it's already done. She's spent a lot of time training for a battle that she turned away from when it came around. Feels relatively dumb compared to her brother most of the time. Doesn't want to talk about why she and her brother are on opposite sides of the law. Max doesn't care about most things, and at this point focuses mainly on two parts of her life: her own survival, and the well-being of her twin brother. They are constantly miles apart and it feels, to her, that they are always right there, next to each other, feeling each other's feelings and making sure they make it through okay. Knowing that he's out there, caring as much as she does, keeps her going when it gets rough.

Brief Character Description: Fairly nerdy. Spent a lot of time studying spellcasting, but still isn't very good at it. Feels constantly overshadowed by his sister's ability to get things done without seeming to even try. Xelan tries hard to be a good person, and often succeeds, but in smaller ways. He does little things, like help someone travel across a relatively short distance, or by making posters for someone who's been missing. He hopes to one day be able to do something really important, the kind of thing that he can do so that there's no doubt in his mind of what a good person he is. But he doesn't really know how to do that, at least not yet. His relationship with his sister, in his eyes, can only be defined by confusion. He doesn't understand why they could be so similar and yet so different. He spends a lot of his time and effort trying to make up for that.
