Eider put his arm around Mavis and sighed. "Don't let Liam upset you. He's a complicated guy; I can tell he's keeping secrets from me. And I could pretty easily figure them out if I wanted to, but that's his business, not mine." He paused, choosing his next words carefully. "And about not needing him... I've never once told Liam I hated him, or I wished we weren't brothers. I do need him; even when he's not around, I think of his when I'm making decisions, and ask myself, What would Liam do? But Mom and Dad, they got in a big fight with my brother a few years ago when he moved out. Neither of them ever told me what happened, just that Liam couldn't live here anymore. So it's my parents that are the reason he doesn't visit. That and whatever secret he's hiding from everyone."
That night, Liam fell asleep on the couch, Thalia on the bed in the room down the hall. He was just starting to dream, voices slowly becoming understandable and images coming into focus... His eyes snapped open as a shriek pierced the air. Liam was on his feet in an instant, sprinting down the hall to his girlfriend's side. Thalia was thrashing in bed, screaming that the baby was coming. "Hang on babe, hang on," he said soothingly, struggling to keep the panic out f his voice. He had to be strong for his girlfriend- she needed him. "Calm down, it's going to be okay. Let me carry you to the car." He lifted her and rushed her out to their car, sitting her gently in the passenger seat before sliding behind the wheel. He called the hospital as he drove, explaining that his "wife" was going into labor and that they would be there within 20 minutes. When they arrived at the hospital, Liam helped her walk inside, a doctor already waiting to take them to a room. "Right this way, miss," he said calmly, guiding Thalia into a cozy room with a bed and several nurses waiting to assist her. Liam's panic slowly receded as he realized he wasn't alone. I wonder if the baby will have powers? he wondered as he helped Thalia up onto the bed.
