Kateliana could hear his voice whispering to her, however she couldn't talk to him back. She felt as if her mouth was stitched up like her stomach, and if she tried to talk it would open up and cause her pain again. Her eyes were closed shut, and her whole body felt limp. She was still breathing, however it had slowed due to the stitches.

She lifted her eyes just enough to look at him, then let out a choke, as if to laugh. Her eyes looked like they were in a place much farther than where they lay, however she somehow knew it was him. "The husband's shining hour..." she whispered softly, but before she could say anymore her hand had slid off her chest and landed with her palm facing upward. She flashed a smile quickly, then closed her eyes once more and drifted away into sleep.

Elton's eyes widened as he heard her say what she did. Husband's shining hour... It was Gregory Mali; the general of Fortuna? It made sense, but yet... it didn't. The man wasn't her husband, but he had hoped to be. He swallowed, hoping she would be all right. Please... don't get nightmares like you did back at my brother's house, he silently wished. He couldn't stand seeing her in that state; it made him feel so awful and... lost.

He stroked her hair, aware of the people that were watching him with an expression mixed with sympathy and confusion. He knew that most of them were thinking; "isn't that the murderer with the... princess?" But he didn't care; his mind was set on one thing and one thing only; the most important thing in his life now.

As Kateliana slept, she could hear the soft breathing of someone by her. Elton...? she thought to herself. She knew that he had been right beside her when she had fallen. She could no longer feel her body, but she was able to hear the sounds that were occuring around her. She knew that some of the mercenaries were still looming around and getting ready to leave, but some of their footsteps had stopped around her. Suddenly she heard the soft melody of a violin, however it wasn't playing the normal song that she knew. It was much more minor and melancholic, like someone had been crying while trying to play the piece. She couldn't tell whether or not the violin was in her mind, but she thought that it would be in her head since she had never seen a musician on the battlefield. Kateliana smiled slightly to herself in her mind, sleeping soundly to the sound of the music. It soothed the pain from her body, and she didn't have to think to the point where it hurt her.

--Later...--

Kateliana winced once, lifting her eyelids just to see the world again. She tried to get up from her position, then let out a short gasp at the pain. She had forgotten about the wound, then inwardly cursed to herself. Kateliana lied back down again, looking up to see Elton. "How long...?" she asked quietly. "... have I been out?"

(Ugh, that was like, major writer's block .__.; )

Elton sat there for hours, content to just watch her sleep. He refused to admit it, but there was a part of him, deep down inside, that thought that this may be the last time he would see her. The wound was deep, and it pained him inside to think of the alternative of her living. She can't die.

When she woke up, his heart skipped a beat. "A few hours," he replied, smiling brightly to see her awake. He leaned down and kissed her cheek. "How are you feeling?" he asked, trying to make his voice sound casual.

"It hurts," she replied, her voice sounding weak. She felt as if she couldn't get up, and her head was throbbing. She wanted to raise her hand to place it against his scar, however her body wasn't able to move. She could move her head, but her body ached from her wounds and the battle earlier.

"Elton, am I going to be okay?" she asked, the look of suffering on her face. She wanted to get up and walk off of the battlefield, but her body wouldn't allow her to.

Elton felt a searing pain go through his body as she said those words. "You'll... you'll be fine," he said finally, forcing a smile. "You're just hurt from battle." I shouldn't have let her fight. None of this would have happened if he had taken on the general by himself. It's all my fault. "In a few days you'll be back to normal." He took her hand in his, lacing his fingers around hers to try and make her feel better. "And then we can continue on with this whole mess." He wished there was something he could say to make her feel better... to have more enthusiasm about her life. She thinks she's going to die.


I won't let her, he thought defiantly.

Kateliana let out a sigh and closed her eyes for a moment, taking a few deep breaths. At least I was the hero, she thought as she felt him lace his fingers between hers. "Do you think we could go back into the city? Could you... carry me?" she asked, unable to get up. She wanted to lay on a bed and rest for a few more hours. She knew that with time she could probably heal; however it would take her a long time to recover.

At least I'm going to survive. Kateliana smiled at the thought. She didn't want to leave the world just yet, expecially when her father was still in control of Fortuna. She was determined to knock him off the throne and prove to him that she wasn't the helpless little princess anymore.

I'm an assassin.

Elton nodded, and put his sword onto his belt again, not wanting to lose it. "Of course," he replied automatically, reaching down and gently picking her up in his arms. She wasn't heavy, and the weight didn't bother him. People backed away from them as he passed by, wincing as they saw the puddle of blood that lingered in the spot where Kateliana had previously been. Elton ignored their looks of shock mixed with curiosity, and nodded his thanks to the woman who had bandaged up Kateliana's wound. I owe her my life, he thought as they entered the gates of the city. He felt a rush of relief as he saw that most of the people were lingering outside, so there were no more questioning looks.

He reached Leonardo's house soon after departing, and knocked on the door to wait for the man to answer. He would be shocked to see her so injured, he knew.

Leonardo cracked the door open, peering through to see who it was. "Elton! And... oh my!" he opened the door wide and allowed them inside. "Mi dispiace..." he whispered, then glanced at Kateliana. "Does it hurt?"

"A little bit. It hurts if I try to get up or try to move my torso," she replied, her face stained with dirt when she fell to the ground. Leonardo had the look of fear on his face, but also compassion for Kateliana. He was glad that she hadn't perished in the battle, and he wanted to help in any way possible. "I have medicinal herbs and leeches to ease the pain. Lately these days the doctors around the city use leeches to keep the wound from being infected," he explained, folliwng Elton into the house. He wanted to make sure that whoever had patched her up had made sure that the wound was clean.

Elton set Kateliana down onto a chair in the sitting room, and glanced over at Leonardo. "Leeches?" he repeated, raising an eyebrow. He had never heard of that being used as a medical treatment, but if he said it would help, Elton believed him. "Is there anything I can do to help?" he offered, his eyes reflecting the worry he felt for her. He still felt guilty for all of this; if he had stopped her from fighting, none of this would have happened.
