- A smile tugs at one corner of his lips, seeing her get embarrassed over the situation. He laughs briefly at her defense, something quickly extinguished when she brings up the two of them being on a date. He just kind of ends up staring at her, caught speechless, not knowing what to say to that. What he should say to that. He always knows exactly what he wants from someone, which lets him speak with intention and clarity. But he doesn't know what he wants from Jessie, and he can't quite come up with something intelligent to say. If it were someone he was trying to get into a relationship with, he'd be brazen about it. Confirm that it is a date. Clearly, that wasn't the case. So, he should agree and move on, this was nothing of the sort and he saw her point. The words got stuck in his throat. "We could be," he says vaguely at last, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth. He usually liked when she lost track of her filter, but it seems to put them in a few difficult situations. "That would mean we've been on a lot of dates, though," he confides, aiming for a route less serious. "At this rate you'll be my most committed relationship," he jests in a tone somewhat grave. Which, however sad it may be, that statement would probably be true. His past relationships were very much with the wrong people.

- Nathaniel was glad that she agreed with him, both for the ease of their arrangement and as a stroke to his academic ego. Despite the insulting compliment she gave him, he can recognize it for the compromise it is, and he half-smiles. "Good to hear." As they fall into a working silence, Nathaniel continues to copy down results and organize solutes. As she finishes with one, he caps it and moves it to the back of the line, opening and putting the next material in front of her. His eyes linger on her hands as they measure things out, watching the accuracy with which she moves along with the experiment. He's pretty content with the quiet, interrupted only by their observations and confirmations. That's why he doesn't really notice it too much, and is almost surprised when she speaks up. He glances up at her, raising an eyebrow. He figured he was last person she'd want to strike up a casual conversation with. "Uh," he starts smartly, taking the calcium hydroxide when she's done with it and twisting on the cap. He opens the ethylene glycol and puts it in her reach, picking up his pen and watching for the calcium hydroxide reaction. "Not really. Just gonna go home and... read probably," he says, knowing he sounded lame. "Mom wants me to put up the Christmas lights so... might do that." He feels like he's about to start rambling about all the boring things he does in a day, so he clears his throat. "What about you?"

- Michael's laughter makes her knuckles turn white as she grips the wheel harder yet, embarrassment burning brighter. She could potentially, maybe, see how he might find her reaction amusing. Being on this end of the stick, however, she can only send him a scowl in response to his answers. A dumb little thrill strikes her at his statement of being attracted to her, even though it's a reference towards her earlier mistake, but she doesn't necessarily want to be attractive to anyone. Or, she doesn't think so, at least. She has more important things to worry about. Cutting him a dry glance because he was greatly messing with her morals, Audrey breathes out slowly to try and cool down her face. She never cared about this kind of stuff before, she doesn't want to dwell on why Michael was making her think about it now. "Right," she says tightly, pulling the car into the parking lot and finding a spot reasonably close to the door. "Well, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself." She really wasn't. "Now get out," she commands flatly, pulling a hair tie from the center console and getting out of the car. The cool air on her face felt nice as she shut her car door, tying her hair into a quick ponytail. As much of an escape this is from him, she still has a whole shared shift to suffer through yet. She isn't sure her heart can handle the prolonged pulse fluctuations.
