Levi just held his gaze off to the side, nodding vaguely as Raina spoke. He wanted to hold on to her as she pressed one final kiss to his lips, have her stay, but he knew he had to do this alone. He watched her go, part of his heart going with her. He finally sighed and turned to the guard. "Bring him in." He muttered. The guard nodded and disappeared, giving Levi only a few seconds to prepare himself before he returned. A second man stepped into the room, and for a second Levi thought he was staring into a mirror. Well, a mirror that added twenty five years. The guard glanced between them and excused himself, shutting the door behind him. "Hello, Levi." His voice was higher than Levi had remembered. There were few differences in their physical appearance. His fathers black hair was cut shorter than Levi's, parted neatly on the side. He was a little taller than Levi, but only by a couple of inches. Other than that, they had the same gray eyes, same thin jaw, same slight build. "What do you want?" Levi's words were harsh, and he made no effort to conceal how he felt. "I- I'm not sure." Came the response. His father stepped a little further into the room, but Levi held his ground. "I know you hate me, with every right to, but I just had to see you." A muscle in Levi's jaw twitched and he huffed. "Well, you've seen me. Isn't that enough?" The man shook his head. "I'm not asking for anything from you. All I need is for you to listen." Levi raised an eyebrow. "You want me to listen? To what? More denials that you are my father? That you never knew my mother? Why should I listen to that?" Levi's words came out in a growl and he took several steps toward his father. The man shook his head. "You don't have to. All I want to say is- I'm sorry." Levi stopped in his tracks. "What?" His father nodded. "I'm sorry. For everything. I was a horrible father and-" His words were cut off as Levi lunged across the room and grabbed his shirt. "You were a horrible father?" He yelled. "You weren't even a father. I never even knew you! You abandoned us, remember? You left, and never came back. Don't pretend that you were ever my father." Levi shoved away from the man and shook his head. "Get out." He muttered, pointing a shaky hand toward the door. "Levi, please-" Levi growled and pointed again, taking a threatening step toward him. "Out!" His father hesitated for a split second, then nodded, turning toward the door. Levi turned away, gripping the edge of a folding table. "Just so you know, I did- do want to be a father to you." Levi gripped the table harder. What? "Your mother, she didn't want me to lose my career. She told me to move on, mark my name in the history books." Levi stiffened. That was the exact phrase she used to tell him. "I always loved you, Levi. Both of you." Levi stared down at the table, his mind whirring as he tried to process what he'd just heard. Still in shock, he whirled around to find that he was alone. His hands shook as he released the table, and he slowly leaned back against it for support. "What the h***?" He muttered. Levi spent several long minutes standing there, unable to form coherent thoughts. What did this mean? His mother had told him to leave? Why would she do that? Why would she willingly let her child grow up without his father? Levi shoved away from the table, unable to stand his thoughts any longer. He pushed his way out the door, a guard helping him through the halls up to the party. He had to find Raina. He just needed her.
