Keto headed straight for the moon pool's underwater entrance, knowing the way perfectly since she had lived around this island her whole life, and used that tunnel more times than she could count. It was a place she liked to go when she wanted to be alone. It was a magical place, even if she didn't fully understand it's power, it was comforting. Her family had rarely gone there, and had said that the area was off limits, but obviously Keto didn't listen. She didn't swim as fast as she usually would, wanting to make sure Lux would be able to keep up. She was still getting used to her tail after all. Once she reached the entrance to the pool, she quickly swam through and resurfaced. She rested against the edge of the wall along the waters edge, placing her arms on the sand that covered the ground as she turned back to the entrance waiting for Lux.

lux followed after keto since she still wasn't use to being underwater and she defiantly didn't remember how to get back to the moon pool. why had she been the human to get trapped into this? her whole life she had believed mermaids were just creatures of fairy tales. if she had listened to those tales maybe she would have seen something like this coming. she didn't want to be in this position. she just wanted to get back to her family on the land but how could she when she had a tail? she didn't even know her way back to the main island, her friends were the only people around here and they had left with the map. she tried to push that out of her mind. right now she needed to focus on the present and what was unfolding in front of her face. she slipped into to the entrance and resurfaced once they were in the moon pool.

Keto resurfaced in the moon pool, a wide smile on her face. She loved it coming in here, it was her special place. She felt connected to it. But now, she shared it with Lux. She was connected to this place now, too. And it was the safest place on the island, so it was perfect for teaching Lux all about her new powers. "Okay, so the best thing about being a mermaid is the awesome powers that come with it." She said, demonstrating said powers by making a small ball of water separate from the moonpool and levitate in the air. With a slight change in hand movements, the ball froze. Keto then clenched her fist, and the ice ball melted in to regular water. "It's really easy once you get the hang of it."

lux looked around the cave. this was the same place were she had changed into a mermaid just a couple hours ago. this was also the place were she had met keto. to say this place didn't feel at least slightly important to her would be lying. she nodded, listening to what keto was saying. her eyes widened as she made the water ball and start to levitate then freeze and then melt. she didn't know if she could do it. "so, how do i start?" lux asked keto. she was nervous, obviously, because she was still learning how to use her tail and now she needed to figure out how to use her powers. what if she didn't even have any powers? of course, keto hadn't said that some mermaid didn't have powers so, she would have to just wait and see.

Keto let out a slight sigh, she had never had to be a teacher before. She learnt everything she knew from her parents, never having been without them. Anything she was unsure of, she could go to them for advice. But now, they weren't here. And she had to help Lux. "Well, it's a little complicated. I've never taught anyone before, so this is new to both of us. My parents taught me everything, and the first thing I learnt is that not all mermaids discover their powers right away. Some have them when they're young, like me, or it takes them a lot longer. My older sister only discovered hers a few years ago." She explained the best she could. "So, what I'm trying to say is that you might not have any right away, if at all. I'm not totally sure how it works with half-mermaids? But if you do have powers, then we'll find out soon enough. The first step is all about focusing your mind. Concentrate on the water, think about what you want it to do. Push everything else out, and then use your hand to show the water what you want it to do. Let the power flow from your mind and in to your hands."

lux could tell that keto hadn't taught before. she knew that face from anyone. it was a mix of nervous and being scared. nervous that she would mess up and scared that she wouldn't teach lux well. she nodded. "it's fine, it's not like you can mess up anyways because i have no idea what I'm doing in the first place," she said with a laugh. she nodded. she was pretty sure that she wouldn't have powers right away. she wasn't even born a mermaid so she felt like it would be impossible for her to learn to use her powers in just a few hours of gaining this whole new life. she nodded and took a deep breath. "okay, ill try my best," she said to keto. she looked at the water, staring at it intensely, making her face scrunch up oddly. she lifted her hand. lift in the air, she thought over and over again, trying to get the water to move. after about a minute of doing this she dropped her hand and looked at keto. "nothing," she said.

Keto scrunched up her face in concentration, trying to think of her next move. She knew that some mermaids didn't get their powers until later on, but they all discovered powers before a certain age. If Lux had any powers, with her only being a half mermaid and all, she should definitely have at least some by now. Or maybe it didn't work the same for humans turned mermaids? Well, she had to try. A thought popped in to her head, and Keto swam behind Lux, "I'm going to try something different with you. You weren't born with the water, you didn't grow up with the connection I did, but now you have this connection. You just need to open yourself up to it." She reached around, taking hold of the other girls wrist, gently lowering their hands to the water. "Close your eyes and feel the water. It's a part of you now, this is your home when you have your tail. And even when you don't, when your on land, you'll still feel it. The pull. It calls to you. Just feel it, like it's a part of your own body. Control the water as if you were controlling your hand."

lux grew red and warm keto swam behind her. she blushed pretty easily, her mind was always flooding with thoughts, mostly ones she wouldn't care to share with anyone but herself. she nodded at keto's words a bit her bottom lip. it made sense to her. she didn't really think of water as anything but, well, water. it was obvious that it was more to keto and to the other mermaids. that meant that it should have mean more to herself too. she needed to feel what keto felt. she closed her ice blue eyes but they snapped open when keto gripped her wrist and then lowered her hand into the cool salt water. she took a deep breath and then closed her eyes again, listening to the words that she said. her mind was clear. it felt like she could feel the sandy beach beneath her toes and hear the water washing against the shore, lapping at the resting seashell. she took a breath and lifted her hand. it felt different this time. it was like the energy in her body was following out of her and into the air, grabbing onto the water in front of her and pulling it into the air. her eyes widened, as did her smile. "im doing it!" she said excitingly.

Keto smiled as Lux made the water move, proud that she was actually able to teach the other mermaid something. "See, I knew you could do it. Believe in yourself, cause now you can do things you wouldn't have even imagined." She said, releasing the other girls arm after a moment. "Making water move to your will is the first step. Learn to make it do different things is the next. So you can create a bubble. Try splitting it into a few smaller balls of water. And controlling them all at once."
