Gingko hadn't been expecting a counterattack from below, and she ended up stumbling before correcting her posture by grabbing a tree branch. When she faced Amber again, she was grinning proudly. "That's more like it. In every aspect of life, you have to pace yourself. Too slow and you fall behind, too fast and you burn out." When she said everything, she meant everything. Fighting, leading, escaping from the Mogadorians -- everything.
"Now that's an excellent move, especially because you can fool many opponents with your size. I don't like the angle your leg is extended at, however. If you practice like that, I'm sure you will injure yourself. Now do that again, but don't lock your knee, and keep a steady stance as you're going down," she said before charging at Amber.
Startled, Rowan froze in shock before closing his eyes and leaning in. After all these years, finally they were reunited, and it just felt so right. When he finally pulled away, he somewhat inconspicuously wiped at the corner of his eyes. With a smile, he looked at her and finally met Esme's gaze. "You're damn right," he said with a crooked smile.
"Here, let me try that again," he chuckled, 'fixing' his voice back to its normal gentlemanly tone. "I missed you so much. How has everything been, darling?"
Alder was being an idiot. He had been trying to find his Legacies by jumping off the washing machines, but now he was stuck on the top of the appliances, too scared to move. "Paige!" he cried in terror. "Help me, I'm gonna die!"
Unbeknown to the encroaching Loric trio, the Mogadorians were completely prepared. The scout team had called in the soldiers, and a team of five had hidden themselves in the scrub. They were so arrogant, they had armed themselves with plain swords, just so they could show off fancy execution moves.
"Three of them," panted Katharine. She and Blair were just returning from their task. "Three Loric are coming. One Cepan and two Garde."
"This is great," Janice cackled. She grabbed Lanette's dagger without her permission and went to her knees behind Willow, resting the cool blade against the Cepan's throat.
"They fell for our little trick," teased Blair.
"Don't worry," Lanette said, "we'll make it quick. Direct orders from Beloved Leader. But sorry, we have to wait until your friends get here. We want to show this to them."
Willow was still silent, still judging. It's a trap, she thought to the Garde, they're waiting for you. They'll kill me once you're in sight, and then they'll kill you all!
"What?" Blair said. "Do you ever talk? Repeat after me: Lorien deserved what it got."
"You will deserve what you get," Willow threatened right back. "You underestimate them."
"Shut up!" Janice yelled from behind her. Willow felt a fist slam into her back, and even as the breath left her, she fought to lean back. Still, the momentum caused the blade to begin digging into her neck.
"You're wrong," said Lanette, "you underestimate us. We are scouts; we'll leave as soon as we're finished with you. It will be up to our friends to take care of your boy and his cronies."
"One second, Jan. The Loric are almost here," said Katharine, cracking her knuckles loudly.
Willow was first to see the head of ginger hair crest over the sandy hill. "No!" she called out. "Run-"
"Too late," came Janice's voice behind her.
The last thing she felt was a chilling numbness that sliced across her throat, and then she felt nothing at all.
