Pallon smiled slightly and offered her his half finished pastry.
Bear smirked "not a chance, and I'll show you why soon enough." He nodded. "that would be a good idea. Best pack for a few days."

I had been content to spend my day reading. Fallen had given me one of his books and I was determined to finish reading it. I had climbed up to one of the perches in the alcove and had made myself comfortable. The birds kept me company for the most part, although there were few and the noises of the other assassins were still very prevalent. I had been contemplating the last chapter I had read, and was comparing it to what I had seen or heard or read before, when I heard the familiar footfalls that forewarned me of someone approaching. I remained silent as the assassin walked below me and stopped. I had little interest in who they were or why they were waiting there until I heard Fallens voice from one of the side passages. He sounded angry, and I knew that wasn’t a good thing. I couldn’t resist and peeked over my ledge as I heard him approach the other. I was shocked to see that it was my mother he had been addressing. What reason could he possibly have to talk to her? It’s not like she would care that he had taken me under his wing and began training me. “You’re wasting your time, Angel. That beast is not worth a tenth of the effort you have gone through to protect him. He’s nothing but a-” “Enough! I may not be your guild master anymore, but I can still kill you, and your son would thank me for it. Not to mention that little incident with Omen left you with only the one son. And don’t call me that. It’s not my name anymore.” It was clear he was p*****, and it was worse than what I’d ever seen with Omen. “Ang- Fallen. I’m just trying to save you the embarrassment. He will never be able to-” “Shut up. You have been horrible to him his entire life. Fifteen years. Fifteen years I have watched you insult and torment your own son, and he has done everything he can to survive this wolf’s den.” I didn’t bother to listen to any more. I didn’t need to hear just how much she hated me, again. I already knew, and I had stopped caring years ago when she threatened to kill me. What I didn’t understand was Fallen protecting me. Why would he do that? He did volunteer to mentor me, but that was different. Wasn’t it?
