Lily felt the tendrils of his thoughts force themselves upon her and she broke the kiss, looking into his brown eyes, stubbornly resistant to allowing her thoughts to be heard. "I had been practicing not reading yours," she semi-whined quietly. As though that made up for all his thoughts she had already read. As though that justified her not sharing them. She straightened from leaning over him, leaving his gentle caress of her cheek behind to stare at the window, wishing the raven would come back just then, disappointed when it didn't. She glanced back at Ace, Ace whom she both loved and feared, before returning her eyes to the window. "The Bible says that perfect love casts out fear... our love just isn't perfect yet." It was the closest she would come to admitting she was afraid.
Remembering the Bible, God, her parents' morals they had instilled in her growing up made her feel sick. Could God still exist in a world of magic? Maybe, but then what about the Greek and Roman gods? Grand had mentioned a demi-god being on campus, which meant they existed. So what about God? The Hebrew God?
If He didn't exist, Lily's life was completely without purpose.
If He did exist, Lily had just committed adultery, and was technically a witch since she practiced magic, meaning she should be put to death.
Where did her magic come from? God, or the devil, or random circumstance?
The raven landing on her sill in her moment of melancholy thought brought her to her feet and to walk to retrieve the rose hip from the raven.
