Kyle tightened his grip on her fur as she jumped off the hill. His stomach flipped when they started falling, but he trusted Mairianne and knew she would keep them both safe. When they started going up, his heart beat faster, adrenaline pulsing through him. The strong winds blew directly into his face, causing him to cover his eyes with his hands to block out the currents. However, he still enjoyed being in the sky, feeling the air move around him and keep Mairianne up in the air. He then looked down to see how high they were. The campus was still easily seen, but viewing everything from above offered a new, interesting perspective. He spotted someone walking along a sidewalk, but the person looked so small compared to everything else. "Can we go faster?" Kyle asked, raising his voice so he could be heard over the blowing wind. He leaned his body over her neck, the air going over him now instead of trying to push him.

"Absolutely! Just be careful!" she semi-screeched over her shoulder, her eagle needing to come through to be heard through the wind as she slanted down a few degrees, gaining speed even further as she worked her way into a tailwind.

Hanging on tightly, Kyle nodded, a huge smile on his face. Flying in the night sky felt wonderful. The world was so different from up here compared to down there. Everything on the ground seemed so insignificant, the only important thing becoming the wind and the stars and the moon. Thinking about the stars, he looked up, watching them shine with their bright light. He carefully let go with one hand and reached towards the stars, laughing softly when he thought of trying to grab one. If only they were closer and not so hot, he probably could have. Probably.

Mairianne flicked him with her tail as a warning before she began to slant further down, slowly going into a dive so he had time to hold on better before incredible wind speeds tore at them, accelerating in a way that might seem dangerous to anyone but herself. She was part eagle after all; she could handle far faster speeds than this and with less space than she had to pull up when she wanted. But instead of pulling up, she suddenly slanted her wings upward, curling her body backwards as they went into a mid-air cartwheel. She had dived first so that they would gain enough speed for him to not fall off for this, though she did an extra tiny circle to be sure. If she dropped him, she could likely catch him, but she didn't want to even allow the possibility.

Right before Mairianne dived, Kyle wrapped his arms around her neck, finding it was easier to hold on. An excited yell tore from his throat when they picked up speed, but his voice was lost in the sudden rush of wind. So this was what it felt like to fly-the air swirling around him, adrenaline causing his heart to race, and seeing the world from above. He absolutely loved it. When Mairianne went back, he closed his eyes and hugged her neck tightly. He felt like his stomach had gone up to his throat, but it soon settled, and another shout of excitement came from Kyle. He felt so alive. It was like he had never truly lived until now.

Mairianne grinned at his excitement. Flying really was the most wonderful thing in the world and by his happiness, Kyle thought so too. She was so happy at his manner, so much more open and joyful and himself than his fear had forced him to be earlier. She leveled off and once more they were simply gliding in beautiful night's expanse. Mairianne took in a long, deep breath, filling all her lungs, then mimicked Kyle's shout, with a touch of her griffin accent and the cry of an eagle mixed in it. She turned her head just slightly to see Kyle, a grin in her far-too-expressive-for-an-animal eyes and mobile beak. "Amazing, right?"

"Amazing," Kyle agreed, grinning back at her. "How often do you fly?" he asked. What he really wanted to ask was, "Whenever you fly, can you take me too," but he didn't want to come across as weird. Plus, he was sure she used her time to fly as alone time, which was something he didn't want to infringe upon. Once the wind was somewhat calm, he sat up, letting the air blow through his hair and against his body. Feeling confident, he let go of Mairianne, stretching his arms out on either side like they were wings.

"Griffins have to fly at least every few days, or else our feathers start to molt," she shivered, the chill traveling all the way down her spine, "for a while, my species was being hunted like crazy because of it, until we learned invisibility spells like the one I placed on us. And it's also why such proud beings consent to be mailcarriers." She laughed, a little like a purr that vibrated in her large lungs, "We'd be flying anyway; might as well do something useful with that time." She smiled, then realized she hadn't really answered his question, "I planned on flying everyday or at least every other day, since the air space here has been prepared for magical creatures to be flying in it by the deans, the magic ones at least. They wouldn't be able to take in griffins or hippogriffs otherwise." Speaking in English over the wind, as gentle as it was as they glided, was beginning to hurt her throat so she said no more, though her natural talkativeness wanted to spur her onward.

"Do you think I could maybe join you on your flying sessions once in a while?" Kyle asked his question slowly, trying to word it right so he didn't sound intrusive. Feeling a little nervous about possibly upsetting her, he went on to say, "I mean, I get these urges to fly at times and I would, except that I can't because of...reasons. So whenever I feel the need to fly I get all sad and distracted, which has caused some of my grades to drop in the past from failing tests..." he trailed off, now afraid he had explained too much. He tried to focus his mind back on flying, watching the way Mairianne's wings moved with the wind.
