Flick watched with curious eyes, unable to say anything. Uncharacteristically, he was silent...which was odd for him. But he watched the game with a peaceable silence and it ended, with Alphaess leaning forward to pull the coins towards her and into the pouches that she had. Needless to say, Flick was impressed. Not overly-- he wouldn't admit to that. But he was surprised that a Heroine would stoop as low to cheat at a simple game of Blackjack. Cheap tricks and childish games were Flick's things, were they not? After all, he was a con-man.

Then the unexpected happened. Alphaess left the table and grabbed Flick by the arm, causing him to startle. But he didn't argue or pull away, and let her drag him away from the old merchant and his cards. There were so many questions on his tongue at the moment. Like...how had she gotten the extra cards? A brand new respect for Alphaess was arising for Flick, and he gave a grin when she let go of his arm. Then, something was placed into his palm. Two cards. Flick glanced down at them momentarily, then back up at Alphaess to see her sly smile. So, this was how she'd done it. It seemed low, but...effective, in a way.

Then she moved away again, with Flick not speaking a word. She'd taken something out--something that looked like a carved bone? Flick did not want to know what animal that was from. She tipped it back and blew on the horn with little power, and a deep low bellow was heard from the horn. Moments later, Flick caught view of the familiar white hair...of course, Alphaess's Balverine. Most unnerving of all, its maw was bathed in a red substance...Flick shuddered. He just hoped it was an animal that the creature had been feasting on. Those teeth had been close to his own skin before, after all. The idea of this massive beast tearing into some small animal made Flick cringe...especially when Alphaess tossed it a prize, and the creature growled...in pleasure? Flick's nose wrinkled in disgust.

"Alright, Red." Flick said at last, folding his arms and raising an eyebrow cheekily at the Heroine. "So, it looks like you aren't as heroic as you let on. Not saying I don't respect your ways of going at it to make a measly coin or two...granted, I've been there." He didn't add: 'still am'. But it was obvious. "It was a cute trick there, but I think you've still got some stuff to learn." And he grinned, puffing out his chest a little. His green gaze drifted over to the Balverine momentarily, but only lingered for a moment before averting itself back to Alphaess. "Right. Well, I guess we head off, then? Hold on."

He put up a hand that said: 'wait up', whirled around, and jogged back in the direction of where he had left his bag. It was leaned up against his bed roll--he didn't bother returning that--and he grabbed it quickly to hoist onto his back. Once he had assured it was properly adjusted, Flick headed back to Alphaess and her Balverine, giving his shoulders a slight roll. The dream...well, it still lingered at the back of his mind. But he would forget...soon enough. It was just weird, that was all. His dad...well, he hadn't thought of him for years. But Flick waved off the thought and stopped once he'd reached the Heroine's side, a little ways from her. "Lead the way, Mon Capíton."

The red haired took a piece of old, ragged clothing and did something very unusual, maybe even strange and gently wiped the blooded maw of the creature, being gentle as she touched, trying not to anger the creature to bite off her hand. She could not touch the creature with her bare hands but it did tolerated her cleaning it's maw, still keeping an eye on the heroine that seem to be quite calm. Though this did not lasted for too long, Alphaess quickly placed the dirty cloth back into one of her pouches.

When Flick commented about what he have seen, Alphaess let out a silent sigh without turning around to face him. What she have done was not very hero-like in a normal person's eyes for sure but Alphaess did not see this that much cruel or evil as usual. After all, she stoke from a merchant, who was also a thief of some other kind isn't it right? Merchants, or at least most of the richer ones were ugly thefts, either selling bad or rotten supplies or selling them over their price.

After a second, Alphaess turned around with a somewhat irritable face and placed her hands on her hips, looking right into Flick. "... Well, a hero's gotta eat." Replied Alphaess with a confident voice, she showed no regrets for doing such action. Alphaess was never ashamed for stealing from others, especially these men were merchants and travelers alike. It was rather strange for a hero to commit such small crimes. They mostly went for bigger fish as a hero could get much, much more than this amount. "At least I don't use the sick tricks like promising to get merchants through places like, I don't know, Darkwood perhaps, and kill them in the middle of the woods, steal all the money and cargo and of course leave the body for any wild beasts to raid. Or create, much, bloodshed to become one of these rich heroes" Thinking a bit about the situation they were in. But of course unless she needed or wanted to, she wouldn't, probably do as she said. But of course she couldn't guarantee it with the Balverine.

In the rouge type heroine's eyes, the Guild was corrupted. Not completely but still a big percent of it was. Probably the other heroes were thinking about the same for her. Like started before, she was pretty much the rouge type, a heroine that never fallowed to rules of the Guild and put her rules instead. And adding her animal-like, wild habits also made things even harder. Though at first, they have seen the talent in her and took her in the great family but as years passed, Alphaess wandered away from her 'family'. She searched for a better life without the Guild after seeing what happened on the heart.

Alphaess seem to be in trans as Flick bolted off to retrieve something, she only snapped out of thought a while after he returned. "...lead the way." Alphaess repeated silently in her head while gesturing to Flick to fallow. Her usual smiling face was replaced with a more serious looking one. A more thoughtful one as she started mentally arguing about her earlier decisions with herself.

After what seemed like hours of trekking, marching or outright falling in the mud, Flick was questioning as to why the hell he thought a trip through Darkwood was worth a few coins. Furthermore, Alphaess and her Balverine seemed more at home...which was baffling to Flick. He knew they would part ways eventually but he would still never understand this woman. She was more animal than human, especially since she had managed to tame such a wild creature. But, maybe, it was because she was part animal herself? Most women in Bowerstone were the cheap, two-second girls who scarcely knew anything beyond their own names and how to seduce a man. Alphaess was different...but Flick did not know if that was good or bad. But it shouldn't matter, right? Once they left Darkwood, he and his escort would part ways.

Except--that did not seem to be happening now. They had paused partway through their trek to investigate a settlement up ahead. Or, rather, a bandit camp. Bandits. Flick's least favourite type of people--aside from guards and people of the law. Which...was strange. But Flick got the intimidating feeling that this little trip through here? Well, it would be a lot harder than originally planned. Flick had heard tales of bandits who would take merchants and travellers like himself captive and ransom them. But, for Flick, he doubted anyone would be willing to lay for a lowly con-man's safety...if these people got ahold of him, he was done. They'd kill him on sight, or probably toy with him first. Eugh--Flick shuddered at the thought.

They were crouched by a cropping of rocks on a hill, a little ways above the camp. The Balverine would be a little harder to obscure...but the bandits seemed occupied anyway. Ahead, Flick could see into the camp where in the center of a circle of tents there was a ring of rocks. Several bandits crowded around, jeering two shirtless men in the center on to fight. They were lashing at one another with balled fists, goaded on by the crowd. As Flick watched, one got lucky and slammed the other on the head with his fist. The man crumpled and dropped loosely down to the ground...the crowd exploded in cheers, yells of anger, jubilation.

"This is sick," Flick mumbled under his breath. And, a little louder, Flick said: 'So what now? We just pop by and go 'hey. Don't mind us. We're just coming through your camp for a little visit. Oh, by the way, this is a merchant carrying valuable goods and a decent amount of wealth on him. Just don't cut our throats!'" He finished, clearing his throat and staring over at Alphaess with a sarcastic expression. "Isn't there a way around?"

But Flick knew...that probably wasn't an option, unless they wanted to take five days around or swim through a damn swamp...then there were the trolls. Hobbes, Nymphs, Balverines...whooh. Flick was partially questioning his sanity at this point.

When the small group of three reached the camp borders, Alphaess was feeling a little impatient about reaching her mission area already. Alphaess was inspecting the enemies and the area with careful eyes. The white furred companion seem to be doing the same but more focusing on the living, idiotic, meatpiles that seem to be hitting each other and having fun? It was quite close to what Alphaess called fun but her was different. It had some... Elegance. She had the delicacy that only an animal could have. The faint sunlight was shining on the Balverin's white fur, making it even easier to see. But it didn't matter. There wasn't a single second that these men spent without getting drunk. They would probably not even be able to see something right under their large noses.

"Nope, that would not work." Replied Alphaess to the first question, wearing a more serious and focused on her target. "I am quite... unpopular around these men." The statement was true as she was known as 'that darned lady hero that caused much trouble'. Though they did not called her hero or heroine quite often as also in the bandits vision, she was just a pest, just like they were. Alphaess herself did not even remembered why she hate them or if she actually hate them at all. The options were; because she was told in the Guild that they were bad, all of them were ridiculously idiotic and was quite entertaining to mess with these dummies or because some even tried to 'impress' her with their bandit techniques. And of course, the response came from a Balverine. More accurate from it's claws.

Ever since Alphaess knew herself, she was rather uninterested in men that tried to use her, seduce her or use any other lame playboy ticks on her. Whenever someone have actually tried to flirt with her, her animal side always immediately kicked in as a defense system. If they were lucky, they would walk, or more likely run away with a few bruises and minor cuts. That way she earned her fame as who she is right now. Sure, there may be someone that could get past her defenses and reach her heart. But that would take a lot of tries and some injuries. Both from the heroine and her protective companion.

Alphaess resumed her gaze on Flick "I can just jump in and slay a lot of 'em but I guess that would waste much time and you would have less chance of survival" And more likely during the chaos, their leaders would escape. Than, an idea came to her mind. Her eyes were narrowed as she silently studied the con-man silently, from head to toe carefully. While she did, he smiling face have returned. It seems that having this man with her would finally have an advantage.

"I have an idea that you would probably won't agree." But of course she wasn't caring the smallest bit about his agreement at all. She returned her gaze back on the camp. There seem to be two guards at the entrance which were also slightly drunken. That is the best you could expect from bandits when it came to drinking. And they liked drinking like hell. It would make thing a lot easier anyway.

Flick's eyes darted over to Alphaess at her comment about her not being...popular. Alphaess puzzled him in this manner, that he was unsure whether she was good or bad. She seemed to be constantly on the fence of evil and good--but regardless, Flick sometimes felt intimidated by her. She had saved his ass...more than once, but he was still unsure.

He fixated his gaze back on the bandit camp when Alphaess continued speaking, about jumping right in and killing the lot of them. But...he figured he wouldn't be able to protect himself if that happened. It was embarrassing to say, but she might be right. Flick just scowled, unable to say anything else that wouldn't make himself sound more stupid. Besides--there was a...lot of them. It would be chaotic and there was a good chance Alphaess could get injured as well, even with the Balverine at her side. She still had the injury from the previous day.

Then he caught her look with a slightly agitated feeling in his stomach. Flick's green gaze traveled past Alphaess to the two guards at the door...dammit. Did she really expect him to do something about this? He was a wimp. He could scarcely fight off Hobbes but--oh...Maybe she didn't expect him to fight but rather to...sneak in? Flick liked to fancy himself as an okay actor, since he had to do a lot of that in his business. But disguising himself as a bandit in a place where he could likely get his throat slit if he screwed up...well, Flick was not at all eager.

"Ohh...I don't like that look," Flick stuttered, looking at Alphaess with an uncomfortable expression. He looked over at the drunken guards--man, they were really out of it. They were teetering slightly where they stood and guffawing to one another about nonsense. Women, weapons and other vulgar stuff. Flick was glad he was a one-man operation because Albion had a lot of...weird people.

Flick bit his lip. "I have a feeling I don't have a choice in the matter. Ugh...whatever you're gonna do, do it now before I have a chance to...change my mind."

After hearing Flick's reply, Alphaess murmured something to herself. "Right right..." She said under her breath and turned her gaze on the Balverine. If she had more time to think, she would probably realize that this mission would more likely end up in failure, sending the con-man into the field to disguise as a bandit was not a very clever decision but still, what other plan did she had? Even if they did kill him or something familiar would happen, Alphaess would at least no longer have to drag this man around all the time. That was something. Either way, it seem like a good deal. .

Right after a two second pause, Alphaess' hand raised up and gestured in a specific pattern and pointed towards the place two guards were standing. The Balverine gave a low, understanding growl, it's blood red eyes getting locked on the guards at the distance. "The usual trick..." Alphaess added to her gesture with a low tune, her face was being neutral, lacking her grin this time. When the Balverine got it's order, the white creature made it's way silently into the position, disappearing from the view for the two.

After the Balverine with the black leather collar left, Alpahess turned her golden-brown eyes back on Flick. "Hope you are ready to show some bravery." She said with a silent chuckle, crossing her arms over the chest plates of her armor. From his look, she could guess that he at least have an idea about her plan. It was easy to guess after all. Steal bandit clothing, disguise as a bandit, lure the camp leaders out. That's it. Simple and easy.

A few seconds later, while she was still waiting for a reply, she was taking off her bow that was hung on her back along with her quiver. Alphaess took both in her one hand, while trying to take the sheath that held her main weapon, the twin swords off her belt. Is this first part was going to work, she had to do it the right way. Directly making her Balverine attack the guards would... Draw much attention and cause a lot of noise. She had to lure these drunken idiots away from the gates first. And she was going to do it the old fashioned way.

A chilling feeling ran through Flick's bones. He reached up to remove the straps of his bag from his shoulders and allow the bag to slip down, leaned up against the rock. He figured that it would be far too suspicious if that were to come with him, but he was a little anxious about leaving it with Alphaess and her Balverine. Technically, if he died, they'd get more a reward than they had originally bargained for. And Flick got the feeling that it didn't really matter if he died. He was a merchant, after all. Alphaess just saw him as another way to make some money quickly and easily.

As the Balverine slunk away, Flick's green eyes darted over to the two drunken men. Bandits were simple creatures, after all. He figured that it would not take much to act like one of them or pretend he was one of their own but he knew the facade would not last forever. He just needed to do whatever it was that Alphaess needed of him, so they could slip by unnoticed. He could go to his trade. The world would spin 'round again. On the way back, Flick would most certainly avoid Darkwood as best as he could but it often proved difficult...what with Darkwood taking up a good chunk of Albion itself. But Flick assured himself he would not like to visit this place again, regardless if it was the only way to get back to Bowerstone.

At Alphaess's words, Flick tried to stifle the nervous expression he was sure that he was wearing and give a small nod. "When have I not been brave?" The words were sarcastic as usual and held a note of pride, but they dwindled out towards the end. Flick was a coward, and he damn well knew it. "Considering that you're kinda sending an unarmed, inexperienced tradesman into a camp full of bandits that want to slit my throat...you do have some sort of backup, right? If anything goes..." Terrible. Wrong. Horrible. Bad. "Awry?"

As he awaited for Alphaess to take out the drunken guards, Flick's hand slipped down to the tiny letter-opener, pathetic excuse for a weapon he had strapped to his side. It had been OK against the Hobbes but he got the feeling that bandits would simply laugh. The sizes of these guys' weapons was unbelievable. Judging by the looks of them, if Flick so much as said the wrong thing they wouldn't hesitate to lop off his head. Eech. Flick sort of liked having his head on his shoulders...it made things so much easier for thinking.

Taking off the throwing blades that were tied to her left leg, which were the last bits of weapons she had on, Alphaess was now unarmed. She held all weapons in her hands, which was a quite hard task to prevent them from falling down to the mud. The little pile of weapons were consisting of her main weapons, the twin swords, the trusted long bow and it's quiver, a large dagger that she always kept it's sheath on her belt and two leather straps that carried two small throwing blades that had only three, as one was used against a Hobbe a while ago. Alphaess' attention turned back to Flick when he questioned about his safety. "I'll figure something out if anything goes awry." Alphaess was not the angelic type of hero and most of the time could be hardly considered as a hero. But still this does not make her all evil and cruel. She did cared little for the merchant man but if she wanted him dead, she would probably let the man live less, murdering him on the first sight, where no evidence or witnesses could be find and pocket all he had on.

"Hold these." Alphaess ordered, thrusting the weapons in Flick's hands or more currently on his hands without waiting for him to understand what have happened or warning. "Don't even think about breaking them. These weapons are worth more than your little payment. And probably more gold than you have right now"Alphaess snapped, giving Flick a menacing glare. Weapons were one of the most expensive things upon Albion. Even rare materials and precious gems were less wanted. Since Albion had a new event every corner and most of these could end up getting eaten alive by Nymphs or getting stumped by a troll, a simple sword would be more useful than a bright colored rock. Even that Alphaess' weapons were not any legendary or master of their classes -though she hoped to obtain legendary weapons one day- they were still quite high in quality, not even adding that some even had augmentations.

"And I'll understand if I'll see the smallest scratch." She said, looking down to her belt to see if she had any other visible weapons. A woman cannot look helpless and innocent with weapons. So, this was her trick. She couldn't go and stab them from the behind or do anything else that would soak their cloths with blood or make visible damage on them. Otherwise, Flick's disguise wouldn't last long, having fresh blood over his shirt would draw some attention. After all, these Bandits were idiots but not completely brainless. A little brain was also needed for their job. Just a little.

Once her little conversation was over for Alphaess -which meant that like usual she didn't waited for any response that Flick could give- She adjusted her cape, which still had the half of the hood cut off to cover most of her upper body. Her clothing and hair were looking muddy enough, so she did not had to do anything else. The heroine, left Flick where he was and slowly walked over to where the Balverine was hiding behind some large bushes and other large vegetation. "Do not harm the clothing much... The men's lives are... " Alphaess paused for a second while talking to her Balverine, looking up at it's blood red eyes, thinking about the correct words. "Try not to shed much blood over the clothing." She continued with a colder voice, agreed with a silent huff coming from the Balverine.

Alphaess took a deep breath and cleared her voice first, putting on an innocent looking face. Hopefully, the drunken bandits wouldn't realize her identity. Probably not, as she mostly wears a hood during her... little games. Sabotaging the weapons, stealing their gold, using their scouts as marksmanship dummies, they were all small tricks Alphaess liked to play on these barbaric men.

The heroine finally showed herself, moving slowly and acting quite tired. It did not took much tme for the guards to notice the lone woman. They did not drew any weapons nor called alert. Just looked at each other for a second, trying to make out if this woman was some sort of hallucination caused by too much alcohol. "Ah, please... Help me." When Alphaess spoke, the two men quickly left their post and walked up to the appealing woman. "A creature... Please... It attacked me and my sister." cried Alphaess, trying to act as innocent as she could. "She is wounded right... right over there. Please help her." She said, pulling from one of the guards clothing with one hand and pointing towards the bushes she have just came out.

One guard tried to calm the attacked woman, while the other started walking towards the trap unknowingly, hoping to find another hopeless and catchy woman. As the man disappeared behind the bushes, a grin formed on Alphaess' lips. "Thank you. Thank you so much, I don't really know how to thank you..." Alphaess said softly, getting herself close to the man and putting her hands around his neck. Of course the man did not protest about this and seem to be rather enjoying it. But it did not lasted for too long as Alphaess swiftly moved her hands to his neck and before the man even noticing, she forced the neck to turn suddenly, causing a faint cracking voice and immediately after the man falling down in front of her to the ground. "Hm. I guess that makes a good thank you." She said with a cold voice, feeling no guilt or having any emotion on her face.

Flick did not like the 'I'll figure something out' part. It sounded more than anything like Alphaess would be improvising and, most of the time, improvising went terribly, terribly wrong. He studied her disinterestedly as she removed the throwing blades from her left leg, disarming herself completely. He glanced up at the weapons that she held in her hands and couldn't help but think it was a little much. But she was a hero after all, so no doubt she would have an overload of stabby things. Then, Alphaess abruptly thrusted the weapons into Flick's arms, starting him a bit. He almost dropped them--there was a lot to carry and it had happened quite randomly. Flick scooped his hand under the bottom of the long bow, preventing it from spilling out of his arms into the mud. He did not think Alphaess would take kindly if he dumped her weapons into the swamp.

"Will do, Red." Flick gave a cheeky grin which probably looked a bit silly with his arms full of weapons, apparently oblivious to her menacing glare. He barely saved himself from poking out his eye with the large dagger but eventually got himself sorted. Flick was not completely weak, but it was still a handful to hold and he was sure that it looked pretty dumb. But he did not dare drop them. Alphaess seemed the person who would hold true to her threat.

Once Alphaess had gone over to her Balverine and spoke quietly to it, only then did Flick actually get the chance to think over what the hell am I doing?! This was certainly not worth risking his life but at this point it seemed he had already gotten far too deep. He was edgy. But, despite his pounding heart, there was no turning back.

At last, Alphaess had adjusted her cape and begun to head down to the bandits to reveal herself. To Flick, it appeared as though she were putting on a more innocent facade...walking slowly and acting as though she had just gone through hell. The bandits, whom Flick expected to jump on her immediately, simply watched hesitantly as she approached. They were drunken, of course, so Flick did not expect them to be overly conscious of an enemy in their midst. Then Alphaess spoke, in a thin and innocent voice that actually did sound as though she had truly been attacked. Flick was impressed; he hadn't thought the heroine could put on such a facade when, in reality, she was pretty brutal and cold. There were some words exchanged seemingly, and then Alphaess moved forward to embrace one of the men. It was pretty unexpected--until he caught on to what she actually had done. There was the sound of bones snapping, and the man fell limply to the floor. Dead. She'd broken his neck.

"Egh." Flick wrinkled his nose in disgust at the sight of the man on the floor and could not help but feel a little nauseous. It happened so quickly. Just like that, and the man was downed. But it had effectively refrained from getting a whole lot of blood on the clothing. At the very least, that was a good thing. Flick adjusted his grip on the weapons, cast a last longing look at his bag, and then came down the small hill--partially sliding, partially walking--to meet up with Alphaess near the bandit gate where the man lay dead at her feet. His green eyes darted quickly over to the man's corpse but he refrained from staring too low and busied himself with dumping the weapons back into Alphaess's arms.

"So, what now?" Flick inquired cautiously, his voice actually sounding serious for once. He did not exactly want to be the one to strip down the man. Even if the man was a bandit it seemed...dishonest. Flick was generally selfish and impetuous but the man was still a human being. He could not be that cruel. And Flick did not exactly look forward to stripping down another man--woah. Weird thought. "Uh...you can go ahead and, uhm, y'know. I'll just--" And he stepped back for a moment, to remove his coat. Shame. He actually had liked the brown coat as it, mostly, kept him warm. Well it was drenched in mud now and not to mention the Balverine teeth marks at the neck...Once he had removed it, it left him in his muddy and slightly ripped white shirt where, in spots, it exposed some skin. It was a little embarrassing but at this point, Flick figured he had been humiliated enough to the point where he could not be humiliated anymore. The shirt clung slightly to his more-or-less slightly scrawny frame. He wasn't too skinny but he still didn't exactly have a whole lot of muscle, either. The 'joys' of having an ectomorph bodytype. Flick gave a slight shrug and waited for Alphaess to do what she needed to do.

OOC: -can't draw worth crap- Yeah...I would draw something but I can't draw humans. Or cats. Or dogs. Or anything. I can draw circles. Does that help? xD Yeah...I'll stick to writing, thanks ^^ But cool!

Balverine hunter - Twenty-four years - Darkwood

Doing the unexpected was how Alphaess won over most conditions. Like the bandit that was lyng dead on the ground that did not expected a woman to came out of nowhere and snapped his neck. Swiftly and mercilessly. Yet, Alphaess did not showed any emotion. Alphaess had no empathy and hardly could see the bandits as 'humans'. She have seen them earlier, witnessed unpleasant things. In her eyes they were nothing more than pests. Alphaess grabbed the dead man from the scruff and slowly pulled it a little bit towards where the other guard have disappeared, trying not to get much mud over the clothing. The man or the Balverine were nowhere to be seen.

Alphaess retrieved her weapons back from Flick, silently this time. She wasn't quite in the mood to use sarcasm or tease Flick. Lucky for him. She started placing her weapons back to their places neatly. The progress took a few minutes until Alphaess was sure everything was in their right places.

After it was done, Alphaess turned her gaze back to Flick. "Really? You want a lady to do it?" Alphaess questioned, even that she was pretty sure after the act she have done in front of Flick's eyes, the word 'lady' wasn't suitable for her. Her look that was on Flick had no threats or anything aggressive this time and it looked a bit more... humanly. Her feelings were neutral despite her previous cold actions.

Alphaess turned her gaze down at the lifeless man and sighed silently. If she had to be honest, she did not had much of a problem with taking the clothes of the corpse, as long as some parts would not be revealed, though she had no interest at doing it at all. Simply, she would rather not do it. The bandit have probably stolen the clothing from another, with possibly using force.

Alphaess' code was allowing her to steal from the ones that steal and kill the ones that murder and slaughter innocent lives. Like the gambler merchant earlier today, like all merchants, he have also made all the money by gambling and selling bad quality goods for expensive to the ones that had no other choice as he was the only merchant that seem to be selling good in the middle of the Darkwood. It was a simple math.

[OOC: I can only draw animals and stuff kinda okay. But I'm trying to learn how to draw humans, so practice + free Alphaess ref. Yay ^^ It literally took me like 4-5 hours to draw and design. I just have to draw her hair for now. And perhaps weapons.)
