"thanks," alex said when he gave her the energy bar. she thought over what he said. shelter would probably best, because they didn't have a doctor or any major medicine if they got too sick. "yeah, a shelter is a great idea," she answered him. "i'm super clueless when it comes to anything like that though. i was never the best at building." she tilted her head up towards the sky. it was strange to think a plane full of innocent people was there just minutes ago. it was even stranger to think that she was a passenger on it. the whole memory was a blur to her now. she sighed unhappily and looked back to the stranger. if it wasn't for the crazy event that just happened, she would usually not talk to people like him. not that she knew much about him. she just didn't talk to many people in general.

James chuckled as she mentioned not being very good with that sort of thing. He looked around and he bit his lip. There were a few palm trees not too far back into the beach and he nodded. "I could do that I guess." he hummed. "I need something though.." he mumbled as he rummaged through one of the other bags, making a small noise of victory as the Captains bag had a machete buried in the bottom of it. He nodded. "Alright." he stood up and walked over towards the trees. "See if you can find twine or rope." he called over his shoulder. He stopped in front of the first tree, bringing the machete up and slicing a piece of the tree off, managing to cut off a large and long piece. He nodded in approval and he looked around, finding a cluster of trees closer together, reaching up and settling the piece down a moment, looking back towards the girl, needing that twine.

alex felt bad quick. "i still want to help," she said, even though she didn't really. "i'm just bad at... i don't know... survival i guess. i won't last very long. sorry that i was the only other person to stay alive in that crash." it was meant to be a joke, but it came out more like bitterness. she shrugged it off, hoping the guy didn't notice it. "okay, i'll find some," she answered to his command. she searched the back and found some twine for him after a while. "catch," she called and threw it straight to him. then, she attempted to stand again. it still hurt when she put most of her weight on her left leg, but she was good to walk. "well, my leg's better. that's good. maybe it was just in shock," she commented, chuckling. it wasn't the most appropriate time to make jokes, but she figured, who cares? no one was going to find them soon anyways. sure, it was probably better to think positive, but alex wasn't the best at doing that either.

~ lol. no, not really. alex's is just a terrible character to be stuck on a island with. i figured that it would be good to use her, because it would keep thing's interesting. ~

James caught the twine and he made a noise of accomplishment and he began to tie the bark to the tree, it working a lot better than expected. He looked over at the girl, her remarks coming back to him. "I don't mind doing most of the work, I'd probably suggest I do it even if your leg wasn't hurt and even if we weren't on an island." he smiled. "It's kinda my thing." he chuckled, continuing his process of cutting the bark from the trees and tying it above them, making slow but soon enough efficient progress. He looked over at the chairs. "Would you be able to start going through the bags while I do this?" he asked. "Put all the helpful stuff in one bag and put it under here." he called as he sliced another chunk of bark off. He was going to feel extremely happy when they had a shelter. He smiled a bit to himself as he imagined them being found and him being shown as the hero figure on the news. He shook those thoughts away. It was silly- and a bit vain- to think stuff like that.

alex smiled as he put together the shelter. she didn't even know the boy's name, but she already felt safe around him, which was a very strange feeling to her. he just seemed to know what he was doing. "clearly," she said, regarding his comments on the building. "you're a natural." listening to his request, she nodded and said, "sure." looking through the bags and finding that almost everything in them, were helpful items, she said, "it seems like they expect something extreme to happen. some of the stuff they keep in these bags are not necessary for a normal flight." she paused. "did the captain bring at machete for fun? it seems a little mad."

~ ha! okay, good, because i felt kind of bad when i read that. ~

James chuckled as she insisted that he was 'a natural' and he shook his head in amusement. He soon had the shelter built and he added another layer slowly. He was only a quarter of the way through when the other girl voiced her opinion on the contents of the bags he looked over at her. "Oh you hadn't heard? After they realized how few survivors of wrecked planes there were, they realized that they probably needed to update their necessary inventory. This new inventory included machete's as well as a numerous amount of survival equipment and extra food." he hummed, laying more of the roof as he continued fixing it.

alex raised her eyebrows at what the boy said. "convenient," she replied. "that will be a good thing for hunting, too." she brought the bag of all the helpful supplies over to the area where the boy was building the structure and slid it under. she paused remembering something. "i read something once that if you make a v-shaped pattern in the water with rocks, the fish will get stuck in it," she thought aloud. "i'll go do that." she jogged off to the water and started to assemble the rock formation, already feeling proud of herself. her parents would be so proud, too- though, they probably wouldn't ever see her again. don't think like that, alex, she thought. all you have to do is work hard, and you'll get out of this place.

James nodded though he pursed his lips slightly. "Not for the people who didn't make it." He was glad it was only the two of them, it meaning they had more supplies than they would have if there had been a larger cluster of people. He finished the roof before dragging the chairs beneath it, looking over to where the girl was assembling the rocks. He walked over and nodded in approval. "This is really great. Where'd you read about this?" he asked, scratching at the back of his neck slightly. He looked back up at her. She was rather pretty. He shoved those thoughts away. This was a life or death situation, not anything more.

alex bit her lip and ignored his comment. she focused on making the rocks neat and together so there was no way to get out. she chuckled slightly at the boy's question. "an article on yahoo, probably. i should've paid more attention if it was about survival," she answered, "or i could have went camping or something. the natural girl inside of me will freak out since there's no electricity, but it'll take a while for it to sink in." she gave him a little smile. "i apologize in advance if i lose my mind." she realized that soon enough when she got aggravated, she would probably make this new boy hate her. she sighed.

James let out a soft chuckle at her words. He'd always liked reading the little featured stories on Yahoo. He felt a sudden longing for his laptop and he knew he'd be pretty out of loop with the world by the time he got back. If he got back. He shuddered a bit at just a the thought before he pushed it away. They could get through this. He hummed and folded his arms over his chest. "I might lose mine as well." He chuckled. A sudden realization his him and he looked over at the girl. "Oh. I'm James by the way." He nodded, holding a hand out to the girl for a formal introduction. He really couldn't believe he failed to get the girls name. He felt pretty dumb at the moment and his cheeks went the lightest shade of pink.
