The echidna whimpered, looking away so his eyes were hidden by his dreadlocks. He snuffled for a moment, not noticing that a tear had escaped his eye. It slid down his cheek before dripping onto Aiden's nose.

Aiden blinked as the echidna's tear landed on his black nose, and he looked up in surprise to see Knuckles looking away rather sadly. Instantly the hedgehog's anger was overwritten with guilt. He pinned his ears back with a depressed sounding squeak, before gently nuzzling his big brother in an apology. All the more reason to hate himself - for making his big brother cry again. Way to go Aiden, you lovely jerk.

The small squeak made him whimper, but he then brightened up a bit as the hedgie nuzzled him. He smiled softly, blinking away his tears. He gently smiled down at him before looking to the city with a snuffle. "...I hate being bipolar. It's awesome." He stated, making fun of himself with a slight snicker.

Aiden couldn't help but smile slightly at Knuckles' poor joke, looking back up at him with mismatched ears and a snuffle of his little black nose. "I'm sorry I snapped at you again..." He whispered sadly, looking away towards the city. "...Hey, could I go and check out the state of the city before we go there? For all we know, there could be defenses lined up at every corner and we'd walk straight in to it." He suggested softly, trying to change the subject quickly.

He smiled softly. "Pft...it's all good. That's what happens when you mix together a bipolar echidna and an anger-issued hedgehog..." he whispered softly, whimpering as he listened to Aiden's question. "Er, just...be quick, ok? I don't want you get hurt." He whispered, sounding more and more like a protective big brother.

Anger-issued hedgehog. Bit of an understatement, but that works. Aiden nodded with a slightly confident smile, but it was clear that he felt horrible for taking out his anger on his big brother. for what seemed to be the hundreth time. He squirmed out of the echidna's arms and plopped down to the ground in a crouching position, fixing his crimson gaze straight ahead with a look of concerntration. But the corner of his mouth etched in a hint of a smile as he pricked his ears. "You're tellin' a guy that can run at the speed of mach seven to be quick? Heh. Good one." He replied with snicker. "I'll be back before you know it, I promise." With that declared, the navy hedgehog suddenly shot off in to the distance in a blue streak.

He gently dropped him, smirking. He rolled his eyes at they statement, just wanting him to be safe. He covered his ears before the hedgehog took off in a blue streak. He sighed, plopping down into the grass below. He shivered softly, the cold breeze stinging him for a moment. "Winter is coming awfully fast." He said to himself, feeling the ground. He smirked, digging it and lying down into a small tunnel, nuzzling the warm dirt.

Suddenly Aiden was standing by the tunnel that Knuckles had dug out, with a bloody scratch down one side. But he didn't seem to notice, and instead he crouched down and peered in to the tunnel curiously. "You down there bro?" He asked with a half-hearted smile.

The echidna was quickly awoken, and he tunneled upwards, poking his head out to look up at Aiden. "Wait...what happened?!" He suddenly exclaimed, growling softly as he pulled himself out of the dirt, shaking himself off before turning to look at the scratch. "What did you do?!" He asked, his tone not angry...but concerned.

Confused as to why Knuckles sounded so concerned, Aiden followed the echidna's gaze and finally noticed the bleeding scratch down his side. "Oh, that. I just caught myself on barbed wire, that's all. I wasn't attacked or anything, I promise." He recounted truthfully, looking up at Knuckles with a sheepish smile. "But yeah, there's a few soldiers here and there seeing to the building repair, and one helicopter on standby on a rooftop. As long as we keep movin' we should be fine."
