Meet two of the most incompetent witches in the magical world. Marisol Soledad and Theresa Hall are an embarrassment to witches everywhere. Their lack of discipline and ability to manage their magic properly has led the Head of the Witch's Academy to declare them all but lost causes. Still the girls do have potential and rather than give up on them entirely they are both placed on probation for one year. In this year they must learn to harness their power and complete a single task appointed to them by the Head of the Witch's Academy. If they can manage this they will not only be allowed to be given a full witch's license (graduate) they will also be able to return to their home.

For you see the task asked of the girls is to go into the non-magical world and find a way to convince the cynical non-magical people within that magic, true magic, exists. This will not be easy as the magic and non-magic worlds have been separated for hundreds of years and most of the people of the non-magic world believe witches and the like to be only fairy tales. Or worse they see magic as the smoke and mirrors of charlatan magicians. So needless to say the girls have their work cut out for them, not only do they have to learn to live in a world completely different to their own they must also find a way to harness their magic and work together to convince the cynics of the world that magic and wonder exist.

_____ᴍᴀʀɪsᴏʟ sᴏʟᴇᴅᴀᴅ

Marisol Soledad was not having a good day, heck she hadn't been having a good week. Her entire life had been turned upside down when it was decided that she was such a terrible embarrassment to witches everywhere that she was to banished from the magical world to live in the non-magical (or mundane as her family called it) world. The Head of the Witch's Academy had told her personally what her punishment was to be, even though the woman had called it a trial, a chance to better herself Marisol knew a punishment when she heard one. She and another girl where to be banished for the length of one year where they were meant to work on their magic and find a way to convince the non-magicals that true magic existed or risk losing their powers and being banished forever. So the two had been essentially left to fend for themselves, their families had been allowed only to short good bye (where Marisol's mother had wept so much she had been sorely tempted to joke about funerals but the solemn faces of her sisters had stopped her) and then they'd been given some basic mundane necessities (a set of keys, some instructions on working the various appliances they were likely to come across in their new home, a how to live like a mundane manual, some clothes, and a bit of mundane money) then they were transported to their new home for the year and left to their own devices. The house at least was stocked with both mundane necessities as well as some basic magical items to improve their witch craft and that was it. Marisol has spent the last several days in a poor mood sulking around their new house and largely ignoring the other girl. She had claimed her room and sulked and thrown the occasional tantrum. She had tried to read the manuals only once in a fit of boredom before throwing them aside as they seemed filled with a whole lot of don't do this and she hated that.

But after several days of sulking Marisol had decided that she had enough and she was hardly going to get home any sooner by not even attempting to work on her "task" so she might as well get started now. That and the constant sulking was getting really tiring and boring anyway. So she set out to conquer the first stage of plan "Go Home As Quickly As Possible" by actually taking the time to meet her fellow probationary witch. After all this girl was going to be a large part of whether or not she made it back home and she needed to see how well the girl actually was at magic before she started planning strategies. Marisol grimaced as she thought; in the interest of actually getting home she would probably have to share her own strengths as well. Which was fine but then the girl would need to know the things she wasn't so great at which wasn't something Marisol liked to talk about. Especially as the list of things she was not so great at was to be brutally honest a whole lot longer than the things she was actually good at. But still she was nothing if not willing to work hard and she was sure that if she just tried harder and made sure the other girl, Terry or something she thought, tried hard too the two of them would be home in no time.

But first she needed to figure out where the other girl was so with that in mind Marisol left her room and began to wander the house hoping to run in to her new housemate.

Theresa Hall

I had had a b ad couple of days. A really bad couple of days.
A little while ago I had been told that I was going to have to go into the mundane world and take part in a mission, because I was so bad at witchcraft that I couldn't manage it on my own. I wasn't too keen on this outcome but that was the way it was going, and there wasn't really anything that I could do about it. My mother had been embarrassed and just glared at me, while my elder sister glared almost as much as my mother, but we didn't really get to say a proper goodbye. They didn't want to say a proper goodbye.
Recently, I had been in this house with the other girl who was on probation, but I never really got a chance to meet her. She seemed to be in a temper all the time, stomping around the house angrily, and I didn't want to get in her way, so I spent the whole time reading introduction manuals in my bedroom. They weren't much use after the tenth of eleventh time of reading, but I really didn't want to get yelled at. Besides, the chances that this mission would work were about zero to zero, so there wasn't going to be much of a point in trying to make it work. After all, it wasn't going to work. I was stuck here with an angry person who liked to have a tantrum because we were both considered bad enough to be sent out of our school and into this stupid place, not that she probably cared about my fate all that much.
Sighing, I rolled onto my back on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. What was going on here? I had known that I wasn't exactly good at magic for a while but I hadn't thought that I was that bad. Divination classes were always good, at the very least. I sometimes had glimpses of the future without even trying to divinate, and apparently that was a good sign. But none of my visions had led me to know what was going on here. I wasn't sure why it mattered so much, but I wasn't going to think about it if I could help it. I needed to get out of here as soon as possible, and actually try to do something on this mission, with or without the other girl whose name had been forgotten about five minutes after we got here.

Marisol had taken the chance of leaving her room to actually look around the house, both because she hadn’t really done so before her week long sulk fest and because it gave her a chance to figure out how she was going to approach the other girl. She was usually pretty good at making friends but she was smart enough to know that she had left a pretty [censored] first impression with her behavior thus far. If her Mother had been around she would have been livid at her behavior and would have no doubt set her to scrubbing cauldrons or something. As it was Marisol was going to have to really work hard to get the other girl to see that she was more than a sulky little brat. But after her first circuit of the house she managed to track down her roommate. Marisol put a big smile on her face and said,
“Hola! Um sorry I’ve been such a brat lately but I figured I’d introduce myself since we’re going to be working together a lot from now on. I’m Marisol, but you can call me Mari. I’m usually pretty friendly and I love hanging out with people when I’m not studying my magic. Um let’s see I like reading spell books, exercising, practicing my broom-stick flying, and cooking. I’m not the best at magic, obviously, but I’m a super hard worker and I know that I can get better. What about you? What do you like to do when you’re not hiding from rude ill-mannered brat roommates and stuff? Do you have a favorite kind of magic? My favorites are enchantments and incantations." Marisol said a little quickly as she forced the whole introduction out of her mouth. She kept up a friendly smile though and while she wasn’t sure if the whole rambling speech was understandable she hoped she had at least managed to come across as friendly and willing to make the whole probation thing work.

Theresa Hall

I stared at the girl who had just come into my room, wondering what she was doing here. Was she finally coming to her senses? That was a bit of a relief, but all the same....she was kind of getting on my nerves already. She was much to cheerful..and that never worked out well. Not in my experience, anyway, and I didn't want to risk being exiled on this person.
"I'm Theresa." I told her "But you can call me Theresa. I haven't been doing much, no, and I'm not a big fan of being..what I am. I just sit here and do things, waiting for you to come to your senses so that we can get on with this mission. I don't know how much you want to get exiled, but I'm not a particularly big fan of it and never will be. Sorry if I sound a bit cold right now, but I haven't had the best time at the moment. I do realize that this might be a hard thing for you, but you're not the only one."
It felt pretty bad to say all that after I had finished, but it was too late now to take it back. Sure, she was trying to be friendly, and I did appreciate that, but it was a little late for me. We had already wasted a few days because she was stomping around the house being angry, and I really didn't want to get in the way of that temper of hers. But when her face looked over at me, and she looked a little bit sad, I knew I had to do something else- so I got to my feet and smiled faintly at her, hoping that would help.
"I'm sorry if that sounded mean, but I've just been having a bad couple of days. The magic I'm best at is divination, and sometimes I get visions when I'm not working. It has really helped in the past....I knew what this was going to be like before I got here."

Marisol struggled to keep her friendly demeanor up when the other girl responded. She didn't seem all that friendly at first and Marisol had to bite her tongue to keep from defending herself. After all getting into an argument wouldn't solve anything either and as much as it irritated her the other girl did have a point. She had been acting pretty childish the past few days and so she could let the criticism slide this once. Besides that was half her problem right there, she always hated criticisms of any sort and ended up losing her temper and getting in trouble when she argued with her professors over some mistake or another. Her mother was forever telling her that sometimes she just had to be quiet and listen to other people's opinions. So Marisol did her best to do just that and well the other girl did make a good point. They were both in this boat together and while she didn't know the other girl at all she was the only ally Marisol had in this circumstance so they where kind of going to have to get along. Or at least learn to be civil to each other and work together.
"I guess I deserved that, Mami always says I have a temper and it always seems to get me in trouble. But really I want to go home just as much as you do and the only way to do that is to work together to come up with a way to complete our task. " Marisol said with a determined look. She was a firm believer in always moving forward, she might make mistakes but she wasn't the type to dwell on them for long. When the other girl mentioned divination Marisol nodded and tried to think of how that would work with her own skills. "Accurate visions will be useful especially if we decide to go a er stage magic route. If nothing else it will be a good place to start, fortune telling and I can do a handful of simpler spells that might look magic-like to the mundanes. Nothing big but maybe it's best if we start small with things we know we can do. That way we'll get a feel for how hard it will be to convince the mundanes and we'll know nothing will go wrong and we won't accidentally curse anyone." Marisol said brightening and straightening up as she outlined a plan in her mind. Already she could feel her confidence returning as she had a concrete plan in her mind. Marisol had always been the sort to do best with clear tasks and this situation was no exception.

Theresa Hall

"That's a good idea." I found myself agreeing with her, since it seemed like a fairly easy option "If we can get them to believe in magic like that, then it should probably make it easier to make them believe in proper magic. After all, they've got to open their eyes sometime; every other race has..."
My words trailed off as the world around me blacked out and I was stuck inside another one of my visions, and at one of the worst possible times that it could be. The blackness changed into a small room filled with books, with a few children sitting down in rows at the back of a space that was nearby. At the front, we were both standing there looking extremely stupid. I leant forward and told one of the children that they would soon find money, and a small coin appeared in their hand. They seemed to be surprised, but they were happy all at the same time.
Of course! Children! Children would find it much easier to believe in magic than the adults would. My vision returned and I looked up at Mari, determination now in my face.
"I know where we can start." I told her, my voice only shaking a tiny bit as I shared what my vision had told me "We need to start with the children. They will find it much easier to accept magic than the adults will, and then everything will become easier as well. We need to make this as easy as we can, and this will help a lot."

MARISOL SOLEDAD

_______________________________________________________________________________________

______________________________ with theresa _________ doing brainstorming

Marisol was excited to see that Theresa was so eager to get to work on their mission. She was especially happy that her idea was being given some serious thought. She liked the feeling of being taken seriously and treated like she could actually contribute to a problem instead of being looked down upon because she wasn't the greatest witch in the world. Like being bad at some magic made her an idiot or something. She was about to make a comment on the mundanes, one held by a vast majority of her family about them being willfully blind and the link when Theresa seemed to go into a trance. Marisol was actually a little intrigued by the process as divination wasn't something her family really focused on. Sure her grandmother and the other old women had their superstitions and she had a great aunt who was a pretty talented seer but most of her immediate family were more about active magics. The kind of magic where a witch was actually putting her own power and effort into getting results versus the more passive role of divination for the most part. In fact her eldest sister was notorious for being down right catty when it came to seers and the like. Marisol didn't quiet have that prejudice (and even if she did she wasn't so stupid as to say it to a real seers face) but she did have a certain impatience for that kind of magic.

But before she could get lost in an internal tangent on visions and divination in general she was startled into focus by Theresa awakening from her trance with a further idea on how they could start. Marisol listened intently to her idea about working for children as a beginning to their mission. It would certainly be easy to convince children as they everyone knew that children were born believing in magic, it was as they got older that the mundanes lost their belief. Bolstering that belief would be a great start not to mention if children got excited enough they would bring in their parents.
"Your right children are a good start. What where you thinking for the magic? Incantations and maybe some low-level transfiguration or enchantments? Incantations would work best with the children I think. Some creative illusions and maybe a summoning spell or two. Besides my transfigurations aren't really all that impressive but I can make some nice illusions and even a decent summoning spell as long as the object is within sight." Marisol offered. She tried to think if she could remember any other showy magics that would appeal to children as she waited for Theresa's response.

"That sounds like a good idea." I agreed with her as the words washed over me "The children would be impressed with that, and then it would be a lot easier to make sure that they believed in what we were telling them. Turning things into sweets and stuff would be great...if they have things that they like to focus on, it'll be made easier for them to believe in what we're trying to tell them."
Looking over at Mari, it was easy to see that she was avid about this idea almost as much as I was. Neither of us were particularly keen on this...exercise, but since we didn't have a choice we had to be creative with what we did have, and what we did have was magic. Without it, this mission would never work. Sure, we were really bad at magic and things like that, but at least we had it. Besides, how would the mundanes even know the difference between good and bad magic? Most of them didn't even believe in it anymore, if they had even believed in it in the first place (which some of them had, but not many). It just strengthened my resolve to prove to the people at home that I wasn't useless and more, and that I could fight back from the 'slump' that they thought I had fallen down into. After all, what else could I do right now? There were no options...
But, then again, we had to be strong and fight back anyway. There was no way I was giving up before the mission had begun. We needed to get on with it, and we needed to start NOW.

MARISOL SOLEDAD

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Marisol agreed with Theresa about the children being easiest to sway although she did feel a flicker of worry about the candy transfiguration. She really wasn’t all that great at that branch of magic but candy wasn’t a big thing or even a particularly detailed thing to try. Besides even if she didn’t get the flavor right (where her magic usually failed) cosmetics would be more important to kids anyway. If she could make the object look like candy she would be at least most of the way there. Not to mention bad tasting candy tended to stick in people’s minds far better than good tasting candy. The only thing was she was unsure if she knew any mundane candy’s to make. Sure she could make cauldron cakes or at least try or trick sweets but again that would be a cosmetic transfiguration and if the kids didn’t even recognize the candy what good would it do. She decided to bring that up to Theresa, maybe she would have some more ideas. Marisol did feel a little strange at the ease with which the two were working together. She had sat through enough lectures to know she wasn’t the easiest person to work with, and it certainly didn’t help that her lack of skills tended to make her even less desirable for group work.

Maybe because this was literally her last shot at staying with her family and returning home? Or maybe it was just nice to have someone who was willing to actually work with her even if she was a little temperamental? Whatever the case Marisol found herself enjoying this little exchange and eager to see what the two could accomplish together.
“I can definitely do the candy only I don’t know much mundane sweets and well I’m not the best at getting taste just right so it would probably be best if the candy at least looked like something the kids where familiar with. Maybe we should try to buy some mundane candy or see if there is any in the cupboards?” Marisol asked.
