Of course she looked down first. James almost growled, 'Don't touch my cat,' but then she was turning to him. Before he could do or say anything, he was staring into the tip of an arrow. It dripped holy water. "C-come on, w-we can work this out," he stammered, portraying his fear. He wasn't a great fighter when everything was so sudden like this. He hadn't even known there were slayers to watch out for until not even an hour ago, and know he was facing one. Shadow's tail waved triumphantly in the air as he settled down next to his feet, and James could feel his whiskers tickling his leg. Gently pushing him away, not wanting to trip over him, he raised his palms outwards to show that he didn't mean any harm. "Come on, what did I ever do?" he asked, still staring down the arrow. He tried to access what to do; dodge the arrows and then what? He was fast, but he had to have a plan set in to win this. He was going to have to fight with just his fangs, which were weapon enough, and then what? He would prefer not to kill her, as that would set off other slayers, but he couldn't leave her alive either. How could he get to her neck to bite her?

In her head, Carlie tried to calm herself down. She had never killed a vampire before, but had been trained well enough to know how. But right now, the only option was killing him. If she didn't, tried to run, he would stop her from getting back to camp. If he did kill her, at least then the group would know for sure of the vampire in the forest. "You've been killing innocent people" Carlie replied, trying to make herself sound strong. She couldn't be portrayed as weak to him, he would probably take that as an advantage to him and kill her. At least her arrow was stopping him from trying anything.

[Areater]

James knew he shouldn't have let her know how scared he was, but he hadn't even had real human contact in decades, just meals. Let alone a fight with a slayer. He let a wave of calm wash over him and he relaxed, looking the arrow dead on so he could dodge it when it came flying. He could hear the strength in her voice, but he didn't believe it was all real. If it was, he was screwed. He probably already was. "Eh. I guess that's true. What can I say, I was hungry." James couldn't help but smirk a bit as those words rolled off his lips. Those words had been filled with confidence, and quite relaxed. Even as he joked about killing mortals. Surely that wouldn't make her laugh; it would probably set her off (if it didn't just plain out revolt her). Which was stupid of him, but too late to do anything now. He began to wonder if an outburst of anger would harm or help him. Yeah, he wouldn't be thinking right and might get himself killed, but he wasn't helping himself right now.

Carlie frowned a bit. "Still," she replied, "how do you think their families and friends felt when they never came home?" She knew how she would've felt if one of her many, many "siblings" had never come home. She began thinking of a plan. Suddenly, inside her head she was ecstatic. That was a perfect plan. She didn't show her happiness though, afraid that he might ruin it.

[Areater]

"I'm sure they got over it," James replied, uncaring. He had never cared much for his victims, only felt slightly bad as he drained them until there was nothing left to bleed. He was beginning to feel slightly better about this fight. He was still staring down an arrow, but she was talking. It always worked better when you got your mind off of it and then you went in for the kill. He saw something flicker across her face, but he couldn't place it and ignored it. Inside his own head he was planning.

Carlie's eyes narrowed. She knew that vampires didn't usually care about their victims, but still, what he was doing was wrong. At the very least he could only drink ones that, say, lived alone. But she was pretty sure that this vampire didn't know anything about his victims, just drank when he was hungry and found somebody. She kept staring right at him, prepared to fire if he tried to attack her.

[Areater]

James met Carlie's narrowed eyes with dark eyes, a satisfied expression settled on his face. He knew it wasn't good, intimidating her more, but by now it was much too late. He could have guilted her out of it, maybe, if he seemed innocent enough. Doubtful, but it had been a possibility if fighting failed him. Besides, no fight was erupting yet. The arrow was still trained on him, but the tight string didn't release, and nothing was happening. A move had to be made, or this was going to drive him insane. Suddenly hearing a familiar meow behind him, he risked glancing over his shoulder for a moment. Of course, of all times, Oscar had chosen now to escape and follow him. Of all cats, too. If Carlie figured out the connection between them, she might be able to use it. Trying his best to ignore the mewling orange cat, he hoped the slayer made no move against his cat, harming or stealing him. His cats were what kept him sane, and he would go mad without the little orange guy.

Ɔαяℓιɛ Δиƨσи

Hearing a meow, Carlie followed the vampires gaze. She saw an orange tabby padding up to him. The cat didn't look like a wild one or a stray. Carlie suddenly realized it must be his pet. That was probably why he seemed to be attempting to will it away, probably back to his home. Carlie kept the arrow well trained at the side of his head.

James didn't know exactly what he wanted Oscar to do. If he went back home Carlie might follow him back to his house and tell the other slayers his location, but if Oscar stayed Carlie could use him against him. The little cat, instead, began to bat at Shadow's tail. He had always been playful with the ferals. "Don't you even think about touching my cat," he growled lowly, moving a step closer to Oscar. Why did any of this have to happen? He just looked stupid, a vampire surrounded by cats with a holy water soaked arrow trained on his head.

Ɔαяℓιɛ Δиƨσи

"I wouldn't kill a cat" Carlie replied. She heard a rustling in the bushes and smiled. She'd been here a while now, so that meant her plan would begin to work. She saw very little, but enough to reassure her that she was now safe. All of a sudden, her and the vampire were surrounded by others with weapons of their own at the ready. She smiled again. The rest of her group had noticed how long she'd been gone, sent somebody looking, and eventually gotten the whole team to come. Carlie lowered her bow, replacing the arrow in her quiver and her bow to her shoulder, and melted back into the bushes.
