"I'm your mother, don't tell me what to do," she said and kicked at him, not paying attention to where her foot hit.

Luke yelped when she kicked his shin. He scrambled to his feet, bent over to hold his leg. "Mom, stop, please, you're drunk! This isn't you," he begged.

Anne looked at him. "I'm going to bed," she said.

Luke said nothing, still holding his leg.

She kicked him again and went back upstairs.

Luke crumpled onto the couch in pain. Even if she was drunk, her kicks hurt. What hurt more though was that he'd though she'd changed.

Anne laid down, falling asleep.

The next day, Kris woke up. She grabbed Sarah, and walked downstairs to make coffee.

Luke had fallen asleep on the couch that night. Bruises had formed on his legs, but were thankfully hidden by his pajama pants.
