Fear crept its way into Cecilie's heart as she heard the tone of his voice. "News? What news?"

''Well, the good part is I get to come home. But I was shot, and punctured a lung,'' he said.

Cecilie gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "Oh, Jack!" The thought that he was hurt made her want to curl up and cry. "Oh amoureux, please say you're alright?"

''Yes, I'm fine,'' he said. ''I can't fight anymore,'' he said.

Cecilie bit her lip, still a bit panicked. "You're coming home?" She'd wanted him to come home, yes, but not because of an injury.

''I'll be there in a week,'' he said.

"Oh Jack," Cecilie whispered sadly.

''Don't be upset, baby,'' he said.

"No, I..." Cecilie bit her lip. "I want you to be home. But not in this way."
