Maria sighed. "I'm sorry, Jackson," she said, starting to cry again. "But it hurt when you accused me of not loving you," she said. "I finally had a friendly touch. Someone who wouldn't hit me when I went to lean into them, or burn me when I didn't have the right tone of voice, and then you tell me I was just using you and I didn't love you."

Not many understand the comfort I get when I walk into a bookstore and take a deep breath as I look around. I feel at home; I feel welcome. I don't have to purchase anything. Being surrounded by books fills me with a sense of security.
