I stood there, tense, as I waited for Loki to make his move. But instead of striking out or yelling or toying with her mind again, he just walked out, boiling under the surface. I frowned and glanced between him and Connie before following him out. "Loki, Loki wait!" I called, though now I realized it was stupid. I had no idea what to say to him, but I wanted to help him.

I stop in my tracks, my head hung low, "What, Em?! What do /you/ want?!" I slowly turn around to face her, fidgeting with the reminder that I was growing weak with friendship and happiness, "You want to help?" I whisper, my tone of voice bitter, "You've done enough, Emerald!"

I stopped when he did, still a few feet away but close enough to see the hurt. I took a step back when he turned to face me, having a hard time keeping my own expression under control. I hated seeing him like this, but nothing could happen between us, not until the Avengers were gone. Either the Avengers would split us apart or the government would. "I'm sorry." I said finally, quietly but not whispering. "I don't want to hurt you but we can't be together or have anything going on between us. You don't understand how our human government works. If we start getting together or whatever while the Avengers are still out there, they'll separate us. They'll assign one of us to a new job and if we refuse they could do worse. And seeing as I'm not the one they need to hunt down the Avengers, they would go after me." I looked down at my boots, biting my lip. "I'm sorry."

"I don't need your pity!!" I spit at her, my face hardening enough so that I wouldn't crumble into a dust of pathetic, and my fists clenching, "If they even tried, then I would quit - You don't understand. This is all your doing. You did this to me. You made me feel this way. You led me on. You made me do all of this!!"

"Hey, hey, it's okay. We can handle Fury. We can sort it out, don't you worry." I offer her a kind smile, and then glance out of the window to see more guests, arriving in more extravagant cars, with more extravagant clothes. "These people are pathetic. They go to charity balls and yet don't do anything to help the charities themselves. Ridiculous."

Lisbeth forced a small, dry smile "Thank you" she mouthed quietly, lip ring glinting as she twisted her head to face him, gasping slihgly and wretching forwards as she once again forgot about her injuries, nodding to his statement almost robotically "Money, it feeds society, greed fuels the lust and violence the fear" she stated cryptically, fingers drumming on the seat, her rugsack and weapon perched on her lap of which she glanced down at momentarily "Alot has changed since your time" she added with the lightest of shrugs "No offence Steve" she added in an almost child like tone .

As Loki left the room Connie slid do her knees. "I'm sorry Emerald." she whispered just as her old friend left. She didn't regret leaving or being with Thor but she did regret putting Emerald in this situation. Connie took her time to breath deeply to regain all control. She wondered if she should just walk out but she knew there would be guards outside the door.

I gritted my teeth and Loki shouted at me, determined not to break down in front of him. It was exactly what he wanted and I wasn't going to give it to him, even though his words were tearing me apart. Because they were true, I had done all of this and this was all my fault. "I don't understand?" I snapped back, looking up at him. "Please, enlighten me. What the hell don't I understand? I know all of this is my fault, okay? So what don't I understand?! Huh?!"

I stare at her, "You don't understand that you /ripped my heart out/." I screech, before storming off to my office, where I slammed the door behind me and locked myself in. I felt terrible - But she should feel worse! She made me hurt... but I- I tried to force her into this. NO! Why am I blaming myself? Why am I feeling this way? This is why I don't want friends...
