Katherine was a bit surprised to hear him say the same three words that she loved to hear from him. While she may have heard it between them in private, he never spoke it out loud in front of anyone. He was usually one to hide his thoughts, not blurt them out loud in front of Cat and Lance. Maybe it's because Maxime's gone, Katherine thought quietly to herself. She guessed that it might be the logical reason; he appeared much more relieved now that he had passed on.

"And I'm glad you didn't bury me, because I would be screaming for help under six feet of dirt if you did," Katherine laughed, her tone light despite her body feeling utterly weak. It was like the old times, where they had joked and argued against each other despite having feelings for one another.

"... As much as I'd love to continue chit-chatting with you... I'm getting a bit tired," Katherine half-yawned, glancing out at the window. What day was it? She could see darkness outside, so was it close to nighttime? It had to be. How long had she been sick? A day? She guessed that it had been that long. Peter's death had been nearly two days ago then, as well as Maya's.

"Rem... could I ask of a favor...?" she suddenly mumbled, looking back towards his eyes. "Could you... lay next to me? Like you had a long time ago...?"

Her response didn't really surprise Rem at all. Of course she would be tired, after coming back from the dead. And even though the illness had been taken away from her, she still had the effects of it, and it would take her a few days to fully be on her feet again. He nodded understandingly as she yawned, shooting a glance over at the window. She was tired, and he understood that.

But as she asked him to lay next to her, he couldn't keep the surprise out of his eyes. She had asked him the same thing a few months ago, when they had first found John's headquarters by accident. Then he had seemed almost doubtful and had done it just to not hurt her feelings. Now however, the idea was one that appealed to him. However, he didn't want anyone else in the room. Silently he glanced over at the few people that stood watching, and gave them a meaningful look.

The smirk he got from Neil wasn't one he expected. The man winked at him and mouthed the words Good Luck before giving him a thumbs up. Rem watched with somewhat narrowed eyes as Neil grabbed a hold of Cat and pulled her out with him. Lance and the rest followed without him even having to say anything, and he felt somewhat proud that they could understand what he wanted without him even having to say it.

Once they had successfully left the room, he shrugged before nodding. "Until you go to sleep," he agreed, implying that when she did fall into a slumber, he would be leaving. He silently obliged, feeling somewhat surprised how easily her body molded with his as he lay next to her, his arm around her shoulders. It was like they were meant to be next to one another.

Katherine could barely see the gestures that Neil was giving him from the other side of the room. She couldn't see that far across; her vision was still slightly blurry. But she could see Rem walking back over to the side of the bed and lay down next to her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. She smiled silently and snuggled up against his side, laying her hand across his chest.

"Is there ever going to be a day where you actually stay the entire night?" Katherine asked, closing her eyes while she felt herself become more and more drowsy. But she wasn't about to fall asleep just yet; she still wanted to talk to him just a little bit longer. She even debated whether or not to tell him that she saw her parents and Peter. They had actually talked to her. She had died, but her heart had miraculously started up again. But her mother had whispered one last thing before she had completely disappeared, something that she couldn't actually understand until now.

"Rem, do you know if your real father is still alive?" Katherine suddenly blurted, and realised her mistake. She shouldn't have even asked the question! Of course her father was probably dead! No, I can't say that either!! That's rude! Katherine yelled at herself. He didn't know his dad... and that probably meant that he never would. Still... it was in her interest to wonder what his actual last name had been.

(Sorry I took so long ^^;; I was having issues with a friend that I hadn't talked to in ages.)

Rem smirked slightly as she asked if he would ever stay the whole night, but didn't have a reply to it. Probably he would in the future, but not then at that very moment when there was so much danger. He didn't feel right sleeping with so much havoc that was going on in his city. It had never felt right to him, to close his eyes for very long and leave the place without his watchful eye kept on it. So many years he had spent with only sleeping a few hours a night, as little as possible to keep himself going. But if Katherine wanted him to stay with her until she fell asleep, he certainly would. It was the least he could do, really.

Her question took him by surprise, and he hesitated, glancing over at her to see her expression. She seemed almost apologetic, like the words had left her mouth before she could even stop them. "I don't know," he said finally, his voice slightly sad. "My folder from the orphanage said that I was left at the hospital by my mother, who didn't want me. She told them that my father was dead." That was all he had ever known about them - that they hadn't wanted him. He didn't know what their names were, nor their religion, or if he had any other family besides them. It was all a mystery to him.

Katherine glanced down and stayed silent for a few minutes, trying to figure out what she could possibly tell him. Was there anything to actually say? She hadn't the slightest clue, other than wondering if his mother was still alive. What if she was? Would she like him? Would she even approve of Katherine? No, don't think such thoughts, Katherine thought to herself. The last thing she needed was to make herself think that she wasn't good enough for him.

"I know that the orphanage was destroyed in the explosion and everything but... do you think there would be a possibility that we could find your files and find out who your mother was...?" Katherine asked, knowing that she shouldn't be asking him so many questions about his real family. It was an unjust thing to do; he had only thought of Maxime as his father. However, it was constantly on her mind, especially now that Maxime had passed.

Rem was unsure why she was being so persistent on the matter. His parents were gone, end of the story. There was no reason to pretend otherwise - they were as good as dead to him. Why did she want to pry into something that was so harmful to him? He had an unreadable look on his face, and his mouth upturned somewhat into a scowl. It was obvious that her questions were slightly irritating to him, but he forced himself to breathe in and out to keep his cool. Now was not the time to get upset, and certainly not to start an argument. She had just died and come back, for goodness sake - he didn't want to fight for a long time.

"Katherine, I've seen the files," he said in a hushed voice, his voice containing somewhat of a monotone quality. "There wasn't anything on there but a picture of me as a six year old, and some descriptions of my bad behavior." He had always misbehaved in the orphanage, perhaps because he had been bitter about his parents having abandoned him. Most of the other children around him had had a family who had died, but at least they knew that someone had cared for him. The files didn't have any names on them, because his mother had turned the newborn in to the hospital anonymously. "But if you want to go back there, we can break into the safe from the basement - it might have survived the bombs."

"I just want to give you a chance of seeing your parents, like the chance that I had been given," Katherine murmured, looking look at his bi-colored eyes. But she had started to get drowsy again, and didn't want to continue speaking anymore on the matter. That would be for another day. For now she needed to rest and get back up onto her feet again. She had to get back into the world, and see how the city and the rest of the planet would deal with Maxime's death.

Katherine scooted closer to Rem and rested her head against his chest, her body beginning to slow down. Her breathing had become deep breaths, and in a few minutes she had almost fall completely asleep. "Goodnight... Rem... I love you..." she mumbled, finally falling asleep in a sayang sleeping-style with him.

Re: Yesterday's Sun - 1x1

.Next Week.

The sun had barely begun to rise, and yet the light it portrayed was brighter than it probably would be the rest of the day. Rem stood on the steps of the castle house, which had informally become their new base, watching it in awe. It wasn't odd that he had woken up so early - in fact, most of the group had already gotten up, and were organizing the patrols for that day. He himself hadn't been involved in the decisions, mostly because Lance had always been the one in charge of deciding who would go out. In a way, he was almost like the second in command, after Rem himself.

He didn't stand there very long, just until the sun had hid behind the clouds as it usually did, forming a silvery light to drench the city. This wasn't new. Silently Rem turned away from the horizon, and entered the house again, nodding at Neil, who sat a few feet away from all of them, seeming to be absorbed in a computer data.

The group glanced up as they saw him enter, and Rem hesitated before approaching them.

"I'll take the first group, with Katherine," he said quietly. "We'll patrol downtown... Make sure the gangs aren't up to their old tricks."

Lance nodded, and glanced over at Cat, who had been assigned to be going out. "Okay," he replied easily after a moment. "I was planning on leading that one.... Who will you want to go with you?"

For a moment Rem seemed thoughtful, but finally he just shook his head. "I'm not really expecting any trouble... Katherine and I can manage fine on our own."

In the past week, Katherine had finally gotten up out of bed and was just like her old self when she had spent her days in the old base. Her father's house had now become the new base for the group, and was feeling just like home when she had been a child/ Her mother and father were not occupying the house, but she knew that they were at peace... wherever they were. She knew the place better than anyone, and even knew the little secret passageways into some rooms that were hidden from others. She had even hidden their secrets from Rem.

Katherine was now in her bathroom looking at herself in the mirror. She had a headband to hold her hair in place, and she had on her usual jacket, boots, and jeans. Her bow and quiver filled with arrows was already strapped to her back, and she had her knife strapped to her leg. Her aim had not faltered while she was was sick; it was just the same as it had been before.

She headed down the spiral staircase from her room and into the living room, where everyone was currently working on something. Katherine immediately caught sight of Rem speaking with Lance like they were businessmen. She didn't want to bother them too much, however, and instead went to grab herself a cup of coffee. She sat down in one of the bar stools and sipped her coffee in silence, feeling grateful that her father had stocked up on supplies for the situation that the world was in now. The world outside was much different than the castle; it was like cloud 9 while the outside was hell.

Rem glanced over as he heard the sound of someone in the kitchen, and caught sight of Katherine. Seeing her still made a smile form on his lips, as he was still to this day recovering from the shock of having believed her to be dead. She was still a walking miracle in his mind. He glanced over at the rest of them and nodded before approaching the kitchen. They didn't make any movement that suspected that they might follow, and he was grateful that they were still giving them space.

He approached her from behind and tapped her on the shoulder, a small smirk playing on his lips. "Ready to go out?" he asked, raising an eyebrow as he waited for her to respond. He was already ready; his crossbow was held loosely in his grip, but it wasn't loaded yet. "I thought we could go down to the orphanage, to see what we can find there." He tried to sound casual, when in reality he was bursting with nerves at the idea of revisiting the place that had been like his first home - his jail for six years. They hadn't spoken about the conversation they had had about his family, as he had been careful to avoid it. But he had actually been thinking the whole time about it, wondering
