Inner Demons

Summary: In a society where demons and humans live together and are often bonded, a boy attempts to find deeper emotions inside of himself by bonding with another boy who he hopes can help him solve his problems. Along the way, he forms an alliance of demons and humans to help bring down groups of extremists who want to eradicate all demons.

Demons.

They were introduced to this world thousands of years ago, with one intention and only one intention; to suck the life from human souls. They were the creatures of the night, the spawn of Satan himself, the thing of every person's nightmare. They were the reason there was evil in the world.

As time drew on, the demons began to realize that they could bond with humans to gain more power; at least, that was their goal at first. But then something changed. It started with one pair, only one pair who fell in love, despite one being a demon and the other being a human. At first both species didn't understand how it had all happened, before they realized that a demon can gain human emotions by being around humans. What kind of emotions they gain depends on the kind of humans they are around. That was when things started to change.

It took thousands of years more to get to this stage, the stage where humans and demons lived mostly in harmony. There were some people, however, who were desperate enough to do anything they could to get rid of the demons that walked the earth. All it would take were a few of these people to get into power, and all hell would break loose. Unfortunately, some did, and then a problem arose. The high-ranking demon-haters created groups made to hunt down demons and kill them, in the most brutal ways possible. The only way for them to survive would be to adopt more human-like emotions, to mask themselves from the Hunters. Just as it only took one pair to start the change, it would take one pair to end the Hunting. Or would it take only one pair? Would only one be enough to defeat the Hunters?

Or, perhaps, it would take an entire alliance of them to stop the killing?

animalis daemonis- literally “animal demon”, the word for demons who can turn into animals and communicate with them
ignis daemonis- literally “the fire demon”, the word for demons who use fire as their main weapon
aqua daemonis- literally “water demon”, the word for demons who use water as their main weapon
terrae daemonis- literally “the earth's demon” or “the demon”, the word for demons who use the earth as their main weapon
ventus daemonis- literally “wind demon”, the word for demons who use wind as their main weapon
Terrae moderatorem- literally “director of the land”, the word for a human who, when bonded to a demon gains control of the way the world works
Ego vocare vobis daemonis.- literally “I call you a demon”, the sentence for summoning a demon to be bonded
Ego voca.- literally “I call now”, the way to call for one's demon who is bonded to them
the Hunters- the groups of people who hunt the demons
the Hunting- the time of year (May-September) when the Hunters kill the most demons. It is during this time that the demons go into their mating season and are weakened
the Demon-Human Alliance- the alliance created by Alfred for humans and demons to gather together to help bring down the Hunters
