Recap:
It is the evening/night of Thursday, September 2, 2010, the second day of school. Rymber, Lyric, Spec, Amira, Aeryn, Chris, Troy, and Chessy have all been ordered to help out tomorrow (Friday) with the dance viewtopic.php?f=28&t=583781&p=16828020&hilit=jobs#p16828020, which is scheduled for this coming Monday (I guess it's some kind of end of summer/early fall/"welcome to our school!" dance... I would think it would be too early in the school year for the Homecoming Dance and week). Also, there will be the Swim Team tryouts tomorrow/Friday! As for the first weekend of the school year, Amira and her friends are planning on having a beach day. ))
º•˙Spec˙•º"Don't worry, I've got you," I told Cailyn uncertainly. I had never been this close to a girl before, unless you counted wrestling with my sisters. Her scent was a salty sweet that was achingly reminiscent of summer. As we embraced, I could feel her shaking. Or maybe that was just me.
I draped her arm onto my back and shifted the burden of her weight to me. "Erm, I'll take y--
have dinner wi--
next to you if, uh, you're, um, up to it..." I stammered, my gaze as fleeting as a fawn. Her face, which before was perfectly sun-kissed, was now a snow-ladden landscape. Her blue eyes and rosy lips were far too prominent on their pale canvas. She genuinely looked unwell.
"Erm, maybe I should just take you to your dorm?" I half suggested, half asked, in quite a conflict with myself. Although I honestly liked the idea of having dinner with Cailyn, the very
thought of being alone with this girl again (especially in a potentially romantic situation!) triggered my flight response. And there was Amira, of course, with whom, now that I think about it, experienced a similar closeness. I couldn't just give up on all of
that, now could I?
Besides, what did Cailyn and I have? I had just met her today in a bathroom, and I was a girl and therefore she didn't recognize me now. And I didn't save her. I'm a fraud. The hero's part belongs to a bigger, stronger, and more handsome guy, while I'm left to play an extra. A nameless face, a background feature. Not the hero.
((Yep, you're a girl, Spec X) ))
