Jack was crying as well. He pulled Austin to him and hugged him tightly.

Jasper rocked her, rubbing her back.

Austin hugged him back. "Why?"

"He shouldn't be gone," Lizzie sobbed. "He can't be."

Jack just shook his head and hugged him tighter.

JAsper sighed. "I know, baby. Shh. Do you want me to call mom?"

Lizzie managed a nod and sank down into one of the waiting room chairs. Her head dropped to her hands. This couldn't be happening.

Jasper called Cara, sitting by Lizzie and rubbing her back.

Cara picked up the phone on the first ring. She'd been waiting all day for an update on Rory's condition. "Hello?" she asked, worry lacing her voice. "How is he?"

Jasper sighed. "You better come," he said softly.

Cara frowned, confused. "Why, did something happen?"

"Yeah," he said. He looked at Lizzie, and rubbed her back.
