Rory shook his head. "I'd rather just get it over with."

Lizzie sighed and nodded a bit. "Okay." She paused, her eyes searching his face. "You're sure you're taking the news alright?"

Rory sighed. "It hasn't sunk in yet."

Lizzie nodded a bit. "Just know that I'll be with you through it all." She squeezed his hand gently. To be honest, she was scared out of her mind, but she couldn't let him know that. Besides- who knew? The cancer could be treated, so hopefully it would turn out alright.

Rory sighed, nodding. "I know. How are you taking it?" he asked.

Lizzie hesitated, not sure how to answer. After a moment, she responded with, "I could be better. But it's not about me."

Rory sighed. "Be honest," he told her.

Lizzie sighed. "Honestly?" She leaned against him, her head on his upper arm. She squeezed his hand again lightly. "I just want you to get better." Her mind kept going to the worst.

Lizzie stood from her chair beside the patient's chair that he sat in, now taller than he was as he remained seated. She bent down a bit and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his neck.
