I just got an idea. It doesn't change our current one, it's just for the mate thing.
Okay. So.
How about the girl doesn't know about the mate-bond until she touches her mate. It doesn't have to be an intimate touch, it could simply just be brushing by eachother and they'd both feel like 'the tingles' or whatever. But the guy instantly knows once just simply lying eyes on her.

Jax was already out, shifted into his dark colored wolf form. He was currently hidden in the thick part of the forest, teasing a coyote that had wandered to close to the town. He could easily kill it, yes, but where's the fun in that?

Genie had shifted back and was kicking a small rock around when she saw Jax. Letting out a squeal of surprise, she stopped in her tracks, not recognizing the wolf.

Jax stopped, looking up at Genie and at catching her scent the familiar knot grew in his stomach. Breaking his gaze from her he watched as the coyote took this moment to run off. A fresh scratch was evident on his muzzle, no doubt going to leave a small mark. Twitching his torn ears, he looked back at Genie and gave her a sadistic, wolfish grin.

His pure black gaze shifted from Genie to the sun that was currently taking to hiding behind the mountains far away; not that the trees allowed much light to come through their leaves anyway. Jax's long black tail flicked from behind him.
