Kira. Everywhere you went, someone was talking. "Kira this, Kira that." Sometimes it was good things, sometimes it was bad. Most of the time, though, it was people saying how either scared they were, or how much they hated the faceless killer. Everywhere you went, people were declaring whose team they were on; L or Kira. Just the thought made the seventeen-year-old chuckle. These people were basing their 'teams' on opinion. They either believed that Kira was just another serial killer who needed to be put on death row, or they believed that he was making the world better. It was all just opinion. They needed to look at the facts. Kira was killing already convicted criminals, as well as other criminals the police hadn't caught yet. Couldn't they see that? Then this 'world-renown detective' known as L tries to go and stop Kira from making a perfect world.

L was trying to stop him. He, Light Yagami, was none other than Kira. As said teenager pushed open the door to his bedroom, the severity of that thought dawned on him. Police officers everywhere were searching to put him in jail and kill him. As well as the 'greatest detective in the world.' What gave him the right to be known as the greatest detective in the world? How could everyone put their faith in someone whose face they didn't even know? Hell, they didn't even know his real voice.

Light laid on his bed, letting the pound-and-a-half of books he carried around all day slide to the floor. Sighing, he put his arms behind his head, his eyes falling shut contently. Why should he worry about L and the police officers hunting after him? No one would ever suspect him. His own father was chief or police, after all. They couldn't lay a finger on him. Plus, if they ever did find out he had a Death Note, how would they? If they opened up the drawer of his desk where the Death Note was being kept without taking the necessary precautions, the desk — as well as the Death Note — would become engulfed in flames. They don't have anything on me.

........Kira. Everywhere you went, someone was talking. "Kira this, Kira that." Sometimes it was good things, sometimes it was bad. Most of the time, though, it was people saying how either scared they were, or how much they hated the faceless killer. Everywhere you went, people were declaring whose team they were on; L or Kira, and it was causing a ball of rage to form in the back of L's mind. He was L Lawliet, and he had never been made such a fool of as he was being made now. He was going to find Kira and he was going to bring him to justice, no matter what it took. The public opinion of Kira could be used in his favor, if Kira felt he had enough power he could become careless, he could let something slip; and then L would swoop in and lock him away forever.
........Watari entered the room, clearly knowing that L was becoming to obsessed with the Kira case for his own good. "Master L, it has been a while since you have eaten. Is there something I can get you? You must be feeling tired without your normal amount of sugar."
........L glanced up at his faithful attendant, but shook his head silently, he had no desire for anything other than justice at that moment, and he didn't plan to do anything else until he got it. Then a thought struck him, he was being childish. He would never be able to solve the case if he let his health become poor. "I will take coffee and a light lunch. Thank you, Watari."
........The attendant nodded and exited the room as silently as he had entered. The raven haired man watched him go, he really would not be able to survive if Watari didn't remind him of the simplest human needs. He often got so caught up in his cases he forgot he was anything but a case solving machine. This case would be the worst yet, he would definitely be relying on Watari over the period of time it took to solve this case. He was L Lawliet, but he was not God.

A familiar 'hyuk' laugh made Light open one eye. A second after he opened his eye, though, he narrowed it again. "What do you want, Ryuk?" He didn't want to start up an idle conversation with the Shinigami. He had things to think about, deaths to plan. The last thing he wanted to do was talk about apples.

"I was just wondering," Ryuk started, sitting in the chair at Light's desk. "What do you plan to do after you've 'rid the world of evil'?"

Light sighed, closing his eye again. He might as well explain it, even if he had gone through the whole thing multiple times. Sometimes it was just fun to talk about his evil plans. Well, he didn't think they were evil. He thought they were amazing. He was going to create a perfect world. How could that be evil? "I told you already. I'm going to create a perfect world. After I kill off all the criminals, I'll become the god of the new world." He ignored the fact that he might also have to kill innocent people — those who tried to oppose him — but it would all turn out fine. He was smart enough to have everything planned out, right down to the second a person dies. If he was smart enough to do that, he was smart enough to become the god of a perfect world.
