"There are things to be said about our land, none of which I need to say; you can see for yourself."
-Scarletstar;; First leader of ScarletClan

.w h a t | y o u | n e e d | t o | k n o w.
ScarletClan's history actually derives from the original four; ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, and ShadowClan. Put together from peaceful Loners, Kittypets, and lost Warriors who were seeking a home away from home to leave the ongoing battles and meaningless fights of their original home. A she-cat, then known as Scarletwing, left her original home of ThunderClan to lead all these strays to a place where they could truly live in peace; ScarletClan. Newly named Scarletstar took her followers, and her kits, past the mountains and into a land where they wouldn't be disturbed; somewhere they could call home.

Image

.c o m m o n | k n o w l e d g e.
Like the combination of all the territories, ScarletClan prey and predators match those that had resided in each of the original four, perhaps a bit more plentiful and variated. The most common sights include squirrels, mice, shrews, and voles, whereas more uncommon ones are water voles, song and ground birds. If you're really lucky, you'll come across a lizard or a rabbit. The prey is more densely populated in the thicker sections of the woods, living amongst the trees and beneath the roots to nibble upon berries and seeds for their pleasure while the felines take it upon themselves to eat the prey. A clearing rests close to the towering mountains where their old home resides {now barren from being torn up by Twolegs, though not to their knowledge} and with a runoff stream trailing down to broaden into a small lake that becomes a common place for animals of all kinds to draw near for water. Here are where rabbits, if one is lucky enough to catch, can be found.

Predators, none of which someone would like to run into, lurk about the territory both inside its borders and out. Foxes are common sites as their bright orange fur sticks out strongly against the green foliage, as do their bushy tails. Badgers, however, are surprisingly much less common. Where they all went, no one knows, but they're thankful for it. Aerial predators aren't as much of a threat unless you stray into clearings or near their nests in the higher parts of trees. Hawks and eagles are known for snatching up young kits or small Apprentices, so they're cautioned to keep either together or be swift-footed in largely open spaces to avoid capture. For the largest predators of all, they're also the most elusive; wolves. Wolves typically stick to the mountains and no cat has been unlucky enough to encounter one, however, it isn't impossible. The cries of these mighty creatures carries on the wind and brings chills to even the bravest of Warriors. If a cat is to run into one, all they can do is run and hope a tree is nearby to climb.

The ScarletClan territory about the same as ThunderClan's was, if not a bit more dense and obviously larger with no borders with rival Clans to worry about. Trees of many species dance and spot the land in clusters or spaced out sections of the land, giving a good balance of shade and sunlight throughout the land. The mountains paired with a runoff creates a small lake near the north side of the territory, producing the main source of water for the Clan, along with branching off with a stray creek that weaves through the trees down south. Down this path leads into a cavern, a cavern lit by light that glows in the distance and opens up into a room where water meets a pool and a hole in the roof allows light to pour in. Here is where the Moonpool is, a sacred place where Medicine Cats and their Apprentices, along with leaders, go to speak with StarClan every half moon. Somewhat far off towards the Northeast, a Twoleg farm is set which holds animals such as horses, cows, sheep, and even dogs. It's wise not to go there unless in desperate need of certain herbs that grow in the area. Loner cats and Kittypets have been known to live here.

Inside ScarletClan camp, most of the dens mimic one another in appearance but vary in size. Each made from brush, bramble barriers around the outside, and partially dug-out old predator sets, the dens are mainly set apart by special objects that hang around the outside, plus smell. The leader's den, however, is the most obvious as it's set on the side of a pile of rocks with a den made from the space in-between. A veil of moss, that also gathers around the rocks and marks the sign of the leader, covers the den entrance for privacy. Atop the cluster, claw marks of past leaders are set in stone, literally, from where they once walked. The "HighStones" as they call it, is where the current leader addresses the Clan for multiple things, the most common being simple meetings and ceremonies. The Warrior's Den, which sits left adjacent though a bit away from the Leader's Den, is identified by a shredded bit of bramble that sits on the top of the den's roof, meaning to signify strength. The Apprentice's den is marked simply by a feather that sits upright as it's wedged between some brambles, signifying the training they reach for to move on in life. Next to that is the Nursery, one of the biggest nests in the Clan, that is marked by an un-bloomed flower bud to signify new life. A bit closer-placed than most of the other dens, the Elder's den sits and is marked by an old leaf, meaning that cats of old age reside here. Finally, we come to the Medicine Cat's den, which sits at the right side of the Leader's den. Here it is usually identified by scent and the bramble veil, but upon the veil small berries reside to mark the place of this den. All the dens are set in an oval-like shape.

The weather of the land is the typical weather as anywhere else {as far as the Clan knows}. New-leaf is pleasant and usually full of growing life, both animal and plant alike. A cool breeze is common on the wind, along with the sunlight remaining a good portion of the day and bringing a decent amount of heat that doesn't overheat the creatures of the land. Green-leaf is abundant in lush foliage and life. Though it has grown hotter and the water nearly dries completely up, ScarletClan has managed to find other sources of water more towards where the border meets uncharted and unclaimed territory. Leaf-fall goes back to that neutral state of neither too hot nor too cold until the approaching season that follows after. Here is when the leaves shift colors to a lovely warm-color shade, though the air becomes more frigid. Layered with a thin blanket of snow, frost settles in and the creek that branches off from the lake freezes over, turning the Moonpool into a puddle of frost with little water moving beneath the surface. Most of the trees lose their leaves and the weather turns for the worse and grows colder each day and night. During this time the cats are usually skinny from lack of prey running around.

New-leaf «« | Green-leaf | Leaf-fall | Leaf-bare
It is currently mid-early New-leaf, which means the air is still a bit cool, but warmer weather is promised on the way. Prey is returning to the land after being tucked away during Leaf-bare and the leaves on the trees are growing back. Small bits of frost still cling to leaves in the morning though are gone come sunhigh. A very light breeze falls in from the northwest at about 1-2 miles per hour and the weather right now is 65˚F, expected to grow to only 68˚F later today and fall down to 64˚F come nightfall. A light drizzle of rain is possible overnight. Prey count is at a decent amount right now and predators are somewhat low.

"Perfect in its splender like the currents of the weather"
The arrogant flicker of a pair of gray ears was the only response Hawkice received from his devilish brother, a wide grin spreading wide across his muzzle. "Oh c'mon Wolfhowl, you know it'll be fun. I thought you were a lady's man, not some dumb-butt that doesn't like to do anything other than mope around." The remark, coupled with a puff of the dull brown tom's chest out of confidence, brought the gray-white Warrior to speak after a long pause of silence. His voice wasn't the only thing to be revealed; unsheathed claws dug into the useless left paw of his sibling, causing Hawkice to flinch out of the small waves of pain surging through his leg.

"Look here, Hawk. I don't even know how you're related even the slightest to me. You're stupid, a flirt, and most of all weak. Insolent fool, can't you see that I don't want to be a part of your child's play? I'd rather eat fox dung before I ever even think about hanging out with you." Prying his claws out of the limp paw, Wolfhowl spat in his brother's face before backing away and facing off towards the distance, a flick of his tail dismissing the presence of the brown tom. Hawkice was used to being told off by his brother in such rude manners by now, though he could never help but try to bring back the old tom that was Wolfpaw. Ever since the day that their parents had perished he... He'd never been the same. Hawkice was able to shove the disaster to the back of his mind over time, but Wolfhowl never did. No. He had always been forming malicious plans that resulted in death one way or another, often including Hawkice's demise. The tom could never figure out why his own brother had despised him so much, but it was yet another thought that he continuously shoved to the side as to enjoy the bright sides of life.

"Oh, yes, uh... Right. I guess I'll be leaving you then." With a flick of his whiskers, the Warrior wandered away from his brother and closer towards the den that held Apprentices. Poking his head inside, the dark ivy eyes caressed upon his face searched the dark interior depths for his own Apprentice. Hawkice truly had nothing better to do; it seemed as though everyone else was asleep or half awake. Either that, or they had already left. As soon as his sight landed upon the young gray tom, a smile grew wide on his face. Hawkice maneuvered quickly and quietly through the group of cats before towering over Valorpaw, poking him gently in the side with a sheathed paw. "Come on Valorpaw. Let's go before all the others get up." Though he was keen on getting training started, the familiar thick red liquid coated over his left paw. He had not realized that his brother had dug deep enough to cause a gash. Giving a small sigh, Hawkice spoke yet again. "Well... We're going to have to pay a visit to Shadowfrost first. You could always train a bit with your father if you want. I don't think that he would mind."

Awoken with the hours of dark still upon the land by a bought of coughing, Valorpaw shivered as his chest convulsed in painful waves. He flickered open one of his dull and reddened eyes, the glazed iris weakly moving across the darkness of the den, seeing nothing but the faint movements of shadows across the den wall, followed by the rhythmic rise and fall of the sleeping flanks of his denmates. A few brief seconds of calm breathing passed by until the fit started up again, causing the young Tom to curl up closer and cough into his body to try and mute the sound before another Apprentice grumpily awoke. Valorpaw closed his eyes, tightening in a small ball of fur to retain warmth where a cold wind settled amongst his body to chill him to the very bone.

Perhaps a few sunshifts had past by the time Valorpaw was woken up again, this time by his mentor, though it felt like mere minutes. The warm trickle that fell upon his fur was surprisingly comforting at first as it rid him of the shivers he continued to feel, but the sharp tang that pierced the air told him otherwise. A groan that quickly turned into a cough caused the tabby to finally awaken, body turning slightly to ease the effort of turning his entire head to look up at Hawkice and weakly speak to him, "I...I don't want to see my dad-" he paused as a cough interrupted his sentence, "He...he worries too much. Just...I'll need something from Shadowfrost too for-" He coughed again, this time it made his voice more hoarse, "My cough." Valorpaw cleared his throat and shuffled away from his mentor, feebly working his way to his paws and eventually standing, but not without a wave of nausea flashing through his mind. Closing his eyes and breathing slowly, he regained his sense and looked back at the tabby Tom with eyes that gleamed with strength though his body betrayed how he really felt. Looking at the den entrance, Valorpaw slowly moved towards the growing light, something that he had seen more times than any cat ever should while deep in sleep. Though when he eventually made it outside, he was relieved to find that the familiar camp opened up before him, not the starlit lands that he feared he would join too soon in his young life.

Turning his head to look past his shoulders and peer back into the Apprentice's den, Valorpaw parted his jaw to call to Hawkice once more, but the unspoken words were filled by the voice of another, a voice he knew all too well; Ashice. "Valorpaw! What are you doing out? Have you been coughing again? Are you going to Shadowfrost's and Sablepaw's den? Come along, I'll take you." The Deputy began to nudge the Apprentice forward; an easy task because of Valorpaw's weak stature. The Apprentice squeaked a bit, glaring at his father with tired eyes, "Bu-But what about...Hawkice? He's..he's in the den still-" "He's old enough to find you himself," Ashice interrupted, continuing to push his son towards the berry-marked bramble veil that rest on the other side of camp. No longer resisting, Valorpaw feebly sighed and lamely padded on without another protest.

The enticing smell of herbs gave Valorpaw a too familiar feeling as he and the gray Deputy approached the den. As they did, Valorpaw gave Sablepaw a friendly nod as she exited with a bundle of herbs in her jaw, most likely being taken to Risingsun. Though she was a new Queen, it was just natural to check up on her often. After the death of his mother Greyfern so many moons ago during birth, Sablepaw and Shadowfrost have been taking extra care of..well any new Queen in the Clan. "Shadowfrost!" Valorpaw was so lost in thought, he hadn't realized that they had arrived at the den so quickly and were nearly inside. Ashice stood waiting at his side, tail resting over the Apprentice's shoulders as he settled down on his haunches, trying to suppress a cough that tickled in his throat.

"Perfect in its splender like the currents of the weather"
Hawkice watched with worried green eyes as Ashice- his Apprentice's father and the Deputy of the Clan- ushered Valorpaw out of the den and towards the Medicine Cat. Since the tabby tom had only been assigned to this young cat for a small amount of time, he had foolishly forgotten about the illnesses. Taking another quick glance at his bloodied paw, the Warrior shot his focus back over towards the fading cats before limping up. "Hey guys, wait for me!" Picking up his pace with an uneasy balance, Hawkice darted past the Deputy and Apprentice before sliding down on the slick den ground.
.
"Hello there, Ashice. What could I-" The sudden large figure of a tabby slipping down the small entrance caused Shadowfrost to stop abruptly, paws quickly dancing upon the ground as to dodge the over-sized tom. An uneasy shuffle accompanied the Medicine Cat's worried gaze as it flitted over from Valorpaw's horrible daily coughing and towards Hawkice's bloodied paw. Obviously both had the same amount of importance, and she were to need gathered help. "Uh, hello there Hawkice... Sablepaw, time to wake up! I'm going to need your help first thing in the morning!" Calling towards the back of the den, the calico she-cat side stepped off towards the side in hopes of awaiting for her Apprentice's arrival.
.
"Come on, I'm sure Sablepaw could take care of Valorpaw. He only needs a few herbs. I'd rather have someone my age anyways." A small purr escaped the flirtatious tom's throat as he spoke, sending Shadowfrost into a nervous and uneasy state of being. "W-well, uh... I don't think Sablepaw could deal with wounds right now. A-anyways... Sablepaw! While you're getting up, grab some tansy!" Uncomfortable, the Medicine Cat shifted away from the Warrior's stare and closer to the shadows of Ashice, attempting to hide away from this cat. Sadly, she was the one who would have to heal him.

Valorpaw lifted his head up, starting to look over his shoulder at the sound of his new mentor's call. Huh..he..he did catch up after all. He began to smile slightly, but Shadowfrost's voice caught his attention instead. Ashice didn't bother to look back at Hawkice as he hurried to catch up with the pair, though he did hurry out of the way as the large Tom came bumbling through and nearly crashed into the Medicine Cat. The Deputy blinked a few times with wide eyes, the moment passing as he huffed and gave a roll of his bright green-blue eyes. "Idiot," He muttered beneath his breath, only loud enough for Valorpaw to catch. The Apprentice frowned. He didn't like how other cats treated his mentor. How bad of a Tom was he exactly? He seemed perfectly fine to Valorpaw; heck, he even preferred his mentor over his father!

"I'll get right on it, Shadowfrost, just give me a moment." Sablepaw's voice made Valorpaw jump slightly. He hadn't heard the Medicine Cat Apprentice return from tending to Risingsun. The brown she-cat brushed past the mess of cats that surrounded in and out of the den with ease like it was no problem, her slender form weaving through the tangle like a snake slithering through the tall grass. "So Shadowfrost, about Valorpaw's condition..." Valorpaw took the chance to get away from his father while he was speaking with Shadowfrost and crawled away to a nest near the back of the den away from the growing commotion to where a nest lay, still lingering with his stale scent from the last time he was sleeping here. The Medicine Cat's den had become more of a den to him than the nursery or Apprentice's den could ever be. Maybe it was the scent of herbs that, to a normal nose are potent and sharp, but to him...they were home. The pale gray tabby sighed and nestled himself in his moss bedding, already lined with downy feathers; just the way he liked it. "Y-You re-really know how-" He paused as a bout of coughing broke his sentence, causing his father to immediately look in his direction. Valorpaw shrunk back and focused on Sablepaw as she gathered some Tansy leaves in her jaw. "How to keep...keep a patient..comfortable." He smiled at the older Apprentice as she returned. Sablepaw spat out the herbs and nudged them over to Valorpaw, a frequent ritual between the two that had become pure routine at this point.

Valorpaw began to chew the Tansy, not bothered by the taste as he swallowed it. Feeling relief bubble in his body already, he looked up at Sablepaw, which of whom hadn't spoken in a long while and was staring off in Shadowfrost's and Ashice's direction. Valorpaw followed her gaze curiously, eyes blurred slightly by the jumble of moving figures and ringing in his ears. "S-Something wrong?" He asked, trailing his glossy green eyes up to the brown she-cat. Sablepaw jumped as if startled by his voice which broke her from both her gaze and her thoughts. "Huh? Oh..it's uh, nothing, Valorpaw. Just rest here for a little bit longer and you'll be able to start training again when sunhigh rolls around. I'll notify Ashice and Hawkice." She excused herself quickly and hurried on towards the Warriors to give them the news. Valorpaw stared after her. This wasn't like her, well, typically she was lost in thought or at least happy with curiosity. Did she discover something that scared her? M-maybe she ran into..into Wolfhowl and got scared. He laughed to himself quietly, choking on a cough caught in his throat. When it passed, he drew in a breath and looked back at the others as she told Ashice about his situation, along with being close enough for Shadowfrost and Hawkice to hear.

"It's much better to face these kinds of things with
      a sense of poisoned rationality"
"Come on, Shadowfrost. You know that I'm just playin' with you. What's the use of hitting on a Medicine Cat when they're forbidden to have a mate?" A soft chuckle escaped Hawkice as he spoke, not noticing what kind of expression that he had made the she-cat wear. Instead of frightened, Shadowfrost seemed much more saddened and broken-hearted than anything. Had he hit a sensitive spot within the Medicine Cat's heart? Definite yes. Feeling bad for the calico she-cat, the Warrior uncomfortably moved away from the scene as Sablepaw began to speak of his Apprentice's condition. It wasn't that he did not care for Valorpaw's well-being, but rather he felt as though he had already dealt enough stress on Shadowfrost's part. Heck, she still needed to mend his paw together!

"Don't worry, Ashice. Your son won't be like this forever; he should get over the coughing by the time he becomes a Warrior. Sooner if he's in great condition for the rest of the moons to come." Giving a welcoming flick of her tail in the tom's direction, Shadowfrost slowly began to make her way over towards Hawkice. Though the thought of what he had previously said to her nagged at the back of her mind, the she-cat forced a smile. "You should really stop annoying your brother. We've tried numerous herbs to try and ail his pain already, but none of them actually helped. They just angered him even more." The forced smile quickly faded into a frown as Shadowfrost grabbed some of the cobwebs stored within the small crevice on the side of the underground den, spitting them down in front of her paws before gently outstretching the threads individually. "Hold still, and keep your paw in midair. I don't care if it happens to be useless; you could still die of blood loss from it." The Medicine Cat held a steady serious gaze with the tom as she meowed, pressing the cobwebs into the lifted paw of Hawkice. He didn't flinch nor move a muscle; the paw was numb, and already could feel near nothingness from the start. Once she had wrapped it up, Shadowfrost dismissed the dull brown tom with a flick of her tail before making her way back over towards Ashice.

As soon as the figure of Hawkice could be seen leaving the den, Shadowfrost broke the silence. "I don't see why the tom desperately attempts to bring out the good of his brother. If anything, Wolfhowl would rather tear up his throat and ditch the Clan for the life of a Rogue." Giving a small sigh, the she-cat looked over towards the relaxing Apprentice. "You should rest in here for a little bit. It'd be better for you since you got your treatment pretty late. Don't worry, we will keep quiet" Giving a faint smile, a question began to nip at her tongue. Was she to reveal what she had previously seen within StarClan's messages, or did Arrowstar have a message to deliver himself? "Hey, Ashice... Does Arrowstar have anything he wants to say? Certainly there has been a bit of commotion lately." If not, then I guess I'll share my part of the story. With a nervous shuffle of her paws, Shadowfrost looked up at the Deputy.

The back and forth chat between Hawkice and Shadowfrost caught Ashice's attention fairly quickly. The tabby Tom's remark about mates and her seldom expression; did she really want a family? The Deputy snorted quietly, turning his head away to focus on his son. Hmph, if she wanted a family so bad, why did she become a Medicine Cat? He wondered, dismissing the thought with a flick of his tail. Ashice sighed and took the moment to sneak away for a second while the calico tended to her patient, minding Sablepaw as she excused herself and left the den. The father looked down at his son, the resemblance to himself strong while the resemblance to his mother near gone except for the strong look in his eyes, however weak they may be. Sickness had been a part of Valorpaw's life since the day he was born, something that had yet to be cured, something that had yet to be determined as a confirmed diagnosis. The pale gray tabby Apprentice shifted in his half-away daze, slowly drifting off to sleep to the sound of his own harsh breathing.

Ashice shook his head and returned to his spot, just in time too as Hawkice took his leave. He perked his ears as Shadowfrost once again spoke, but said nothing for a moment more; not like he'd said anything previously, rather he kept quiet so the two cats could talk amongst themselves; there was no need for him to be in their conversation. "In us all, there is always a part of us, no matter how big or small, that longs for something they cannot have, or something that they lost." Ashice spoke the words of an old, wise cat that lived many moons ago, no longer by their side; his grandfather. Much more of a father than his own, Ashice respected the old black Tom with the upmost courtesy. Blackice, as he was known in his younger days before he was renamed to Losteyes, had always been wise and filled with any type of wisdom; some that cut deeper than others.

The tabby sighed and looked at the Medicine Cat as she asked about Arrowstar, the Deputy merely replied with a shake of his head. "If he has, he hasn't spoken to me. I'm not exactly sure what's going through his mind right now, then again, I have other things to worry about, such as concern on whether or not I'm fit to even be Deputy. With having a son who can't even breath for five minutes without a cough working its way into his chest-" Ashice stopped himself and lashed his tail, realizing he had probably shared too much with Shadowfrost already. Though Valorpaw was asleep, he shouldn't speak so ill of his son and how his poor condition was stressing him to the point of questioning his own position within the Clan.

"You like a story with a twist
      Conflict, you cannot resist"
Anger quickly boiled within the young she-cat as she paced impatiently outside of the Apprentice den waiting for her mentor to finish up with the Medicine Cat. Spiderpaw didn't give two rats that his son had some horrible problem with coughing, or that Ashice happened to be the Deputy of ScarletClan. No. He was her mentor; the one that was supposed to actually teach her stuff about the Warrior life and help her become as strong as him. Stronger if she were lucky. But no. Ever since she was assigned to him after her original mentor Tigerstripe had died, he had been focused much more on his son's health- which has been in the paws of the Medicine Cat for moons now- rather than her training. The lack of attention she received from him brought a distaste the she-cat's mouth, pink tongue caressing at the roof of her mouth as to ridden of the hasty thoughts that suddenly began piling up within her mind. What if he were to 'suddenly' perish and leave you with a new mentor? What if you left the Clan and learned for yourself, just like you have for the past three moons? The only thing that was truly keeping the she-cat back from causing a scene before escaping was her large brother named Toxicpaw. If it hadn't been for his own malicious plans, she would have ditched him long ago with the rest of these foul-brained imbeciles.

"Uh, hello there Spiderpaw. You seem a bit lost. Need help?" The sound of an older she-cat snapped Spiderpaw from her daze, amber eyes glaring up at the gray Warrior. "No. I don't need help from any cat, especially one as timid as you. Anyways, only my mentor would be of any use to me." With a lash of her tail dismissing the older cat, the white-orange tabby stormed over towards the Medicine Cat den with an agitated flick of her short whiskers. "I can deal with this myself anyways. You're not needed; not today, not ever." With narrowed eyes Spiderpaw plowed her way into the Medicine Cat den, focusing on her mentor rather than the trembling calico she-cat that was slowly making her way into a corner.

"Well? Are you done wallowing around in your son's health? I believe that Shadowfrost here has it all handled." A small growl intermingled with the she-cat's meow as she spoke, composure threatening and fur bristling. "Oh, don't tell me that you're too busy to teach a lesson today, mister Deputy. You seem to have quite a lot of time on your paws now. Anyways, I doubt that Arrowstar would mind you take me out for a little bit. It is part of your duties to teach me."
