Dani: I watch my mother try to hold a wailing Hazel and give Bryan a small nod before walking up the stage to Effie Trinket.....

[Flying-Cheeto!]

"Come on, Darling." Effie says, gesturing her to come up the stairs a little quicker.

Bryan watches nervously from the back by Hazel and her mom, half scared that Hazel was about to come running on the stage trying to stop her sister from going. He knew what Hazel was feeling... she was scared.

[dark alice.]

Dani: I walk up to her, stiffly but in a determined way. I look over at my family and Bryan. I gave him a look.

[Flying-Cheeto!]

"Ladies and gentlemen," Effie says, "Let's hear it for our first volunteer of the seventy-fourth annual Hunger games!" She smiles over at the crowd, but they're all silent..

[dark alice.]

Dani: I scan the familiar faces, not smiling AT ALL, and just looking calm and determined. I stare into Bryan's eyes, hoping he'll come see me later....I wonder who the boy tribute will be....

[Flying-Cheeto!]

"Okay... now for the boys." Effie says, then walks over to the jar as her fingers search around for a paper to pick.. then finally, she chooses one, then walks back up to the microphone... "Mason Janette."

[dark alice.]

Dani: Why does that name sound familiar? I see everybody turn and stare at a blond boy I recognize as the baker's son.

[Flying-Cheeto!]

Mason sighs, and then makes his way through the crowd nervously, walking up the stage steps slowly.

[dark alice.]

Dani: I watch Mason come up and sigh. Poor guy.

[Flying-Cheeto!]

Mason looked over at Dani out of the side of his eye, he remembered what she just recently did for his little sister... something he would probably never have much courage to do.
