Matt watched her as she went inside with a hard expression on his face. It was a comfort to him to know she was safely inside with him the only thing standing in the way; he wasn't about to let her into that house. He turned his attention back to her mother, his expression deadly. "I can imagine so." he said. "What do you want?"

Bailey's mother smiled. "Oh Matthew. You know what I want. But, if you're going to make this hard, then we might have to play dirty," she said.
Bailey picked up Emma and held her close. She watched at Mat and her mom talked. She was scared that something was going to happen.

"I don't care what you want." he said curtly. He started to bring the gun around his body, but left it so that it was still hidden. "It'd be a shame if I had to hurt you. Why don't you just leave? You're not going to get Emma from me." He ground his teeth together, his heart pounding in his chest.

Bailey's mom shook her head. "I'll be back when you least expect it, Matthew," she said walking away.
Bailey sighed as she watched her mom leave. She knew she would be back later. Bailey put Emma back in her crib and went downstairs. She ran to Matt and looked at him.

Matt sighed as he watched her leave. He didn't understand; why would she torment them like that? He thought about calling the police to see if they could do something about it. Surely they could. He shook his head and turned around, almost running into Bailey. He sighed and looked down. "I hate your mom," he said quietly, walking past her into the house. "Why can't she leave us alone?"

Bailey followed behind him. "I don't know. She's just like my dad," she said softly. She hated that her mom acted so nice and turned into this mean old woman. Bailey just wished she would fall in a hole and die. She hated her mom.

Matt sighed and shook his head. He started back upstairs to put the gun away. "Well, whatever she's doing, she must be serious to some degree. I have to admit, Bailey, she's starting to scare me." he said. He turned into the bedroom and turned the safety off the gun. He replaced it under the bed, then sat on the mattress and rubbed his face in his hands.

Bailey sat on the bed next to him. "Call the police then. She won't be able to do anything," she said looking at him. She didn't want her mom around. The police would keep them safe and let them sleep at night. Bailey wish Matt would take some action.

Matt sighed. "Alright, alright." He reached into his pocket for his phone, and then groaned, remembering it was in pieces at Amber's house. With a huff he pushed himself up and bounded quickly downstairs to the phone in the living room. He dialed the local police station and explained what had been happening. "Alright, thanks." he said as he hung up. He placed the phone back on the receiver and sunk into the couch with a sigh. After a moment he stood up and went to the bottom of the stairs "The chief is going to send out someone to come watch the house later, Bailey." he called loudly up the stairs.

Bailey came down the stairs. She stopped in front of him and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Emma's going to be fine," she said softly. She had to assure herself and him. She sighed and looked at the ground. She was still scared.
