[Vampicorn]

Nathan tipped his head slightly foward to greet Elizabeth, his families newest maid, and sat down stiffly at the table. His mother and father arrived soon after, with tired circles under their glaring eyes.
"Mother, father,"
Nathan started to explain
"I am sorry for my many late night absenses, my stress levels have been too high recently and I have only been trying to relieve the pain"

Elizabeth returned the aristocrat's son's nod politely, staying where she was as the Hadsdon's came in, pulling away a little more to keep out of the way as the man and woman of the house took their seats. Neither looked pleased with their son.
"We've been worried sick, Nathan," Mr. Hadsdon said in a low, disapproving tone. "Staying out until three in the morning drinking will not fix anything. And don't try to deny it -- your bedroom reeks of alcohol. You need to find another way to deal with your problems, whatever they are."
He was clearly unaware of Nathan's break-up.

[center]Maybe it was the raging hangover, or something in him just snapped, but Nathan did one thing he had never done before, and never planned to do, he yelled at his parents.
"Oh shut up! You know nothing of what is going on in my life, you just assume, and you're wrong"
he said, slamming the pamls of his hands onto the table, sloshing drinks all over the table. Nathan's mother gasped, and looked like she was on the verge of tears, she had always been fragile

Elizabeth held her breath as the aristocrat's son had his outburst, withdrawing deeper into the shadows, like that way she could avoid any of his anger. Mr. Hadsdon didn't outwardly react to his son's outburst, other than to turn to his wife and murmur a few comforting things in her ear before looking back to his son.
"Maybe we don't know what's going on, Nathan, but your going out nightly and drinking away whatever it is that's bothering you and then coming home and waking up hung over doesn't help. We know nothing of your problem because you haven't told us anything about it," the man said in a measured tone. "And on another point, I will ask that you behave more civilly, hung over or not. Anyone else in this house that acted as you did would get a sound, painful punishment. You've only escaped that for so long because I don't want to hurt my own son."
Elizabeth almost gasped at that. Mr. Hadsdon was, in a sense, threatening his own son. She'd never seen the man lay a finger on his boy, even when Nathan was upset like this, or speak in such a way. Maybe I shouldn't be eavsdropping on this... she thought nervously. But there was nowhere to go. If she left her little shadowy corner, they'd see her.

"Hurt me..."
Nathan whispered, with a hard edge to his tone. His father had always been a strict man, but not this, never this. His eyes flickered to the new servant girl, huddled into the far corner of the room.
"I realize you are trying to help, but threatening me is helping nothing!"
Nathan yelled, standing up and storming out of the dining hall.

Elizabeth drew back even further when Nathan looked in her direction, hoping that he'd just looked that way on a whim, but knowing that he'd seen her. After he left, she let the atmosphere in the room cool off a bit before stepping out, going to clear the empty space like she'd been taught. "Is there anything else I can do, sir?" she asked quietly, keeping her gaze down as she gathered up Nathan's dishes.
"Make sure he hasn't made a mess of his room," Mr. Hadsdon sighed, looking bleakly down at his own breakfast. He failed to see the look of, well, horror when Elizabeth registered what he'd said. Go make sure the room was still intact? That meant going to see if Nathan was raging around or not.
"Y-Yes sir," she mumbled, hurrying away.

Hot anger coursed through Nathan's veins, and his fingers ached from being clenched in an angry fist. He sat on his bed, trying to calmdown, and his eyes wandered to the protrait that hung on the far wall of the room. It was luxurious, and a quite expensive painting of his family a few years back. At the time he had been grumpy, and refused to smile while the artist slaved over the canvas, so he had a gloomy look to his face. Nathan got up and crossed the room get a closer look. It was detailed and on a thin, papery canvas, thin enough that he sould simply thrown his still clenched hand through it to leave a gaping hole. Nathan pondered this idea for a few minutes, but couldn't bring himself to trash such beautiful art. Instead he proceeded to throw a lovely hairbrush, made of hand-carved mahogony, through his mirror, leaving shards all over the floor.

Elizabeth peeked into Nathan's rom just as he threw the brush at the mirror. She yelped and drew back as the shards flew before she stepped into the room, swallowing her fear of the young man to do her job.
"S-Sir, I would advise against acting that way. It will only anger the housekeeper and get you into more trouble."
Could he see how scared she was? Could he see her shaking, even though she tried not to?

Nathan turned abruptly and found himself facing the new maid. Her face was red and she was obviously terrified.
"I'm sorry you had to see me like this"
he said quietly, rubbing his temples
"Could you help me clean this up, I doubt my parents would be very happy to lose a maid because she stepped on a shard of mirror"
Nathan said with a gentle smile

Elizabeth's fear faded slightly as the young man started to calm down and act more reasonably. She stepped further into the room when he asked if she'd help him clean up, a nervous smile on her face when she noticed that Nathan was smiling.
"It's my job to help," she said quietly, crouching on the floor and beginning to pick up the bigger pieces of glass she could see. Occasionally, she would cut her finger with a sharp edge, but she didn't make a sound -- she just pressed her finger to the underside of her dress until the bleeding stopped.
