"I'm sorry... How's Aunt Kate been?" She asked and sat next to her.

"She's fine.." Maddy lied.

[skyprincess]

"Don't lie to me." Veronica had gotten better at noticing when people lie.

[lupins]

Maddy took a deep breath and said quickly "She was diagnosed with cancer 2 months ago."

Veronica covered her face with her hands and let out a small sob. "I-is that why you came here to stay with me, mom, and dad?"

"Yes..." Maddy said shamefully.

Veronica pulled Maddy into a hug. "Mads, I'm so sorry. We can go back to New York and see her together."

"Soon, she told me to come here, so I may as well stay for a bit.." Maddy said quietly and hugged her back.

"I'll call her and see if we can visit for a few days. Just me and you." Veronica pulled out her phone and called her Aunt Kate. They talked for awhile and Ronnie finally hung up. "Pack your bags. We are leaving tomorrow."

"I only have my backpack." Maddy told her and picked it up from the side of the bed, asking "Wait, can I even leave by tomorrow?"
