The black brute simply sat down. His tail tapped. TAP. TAP. TAP. "Ugh! I'm so bored!" he barked softly. Shadow got up, padding over to the Alpha's den. As guessed, she wasn't there. Unfimiliar scents wafted in, coming from outside the den. they smelled richly of fox, and he figured with such high winds they were all looking for warmth and shelter.
More fox scents came in, but Shadow wasn't worried. There were no pups in the pack yet, which meant all strong wolves. Strong wolves were what this pack needed. No weak links. They would have to be removed.
Although if pups did come around, this brute would be very glad. He had always enjoyed pups, and had wished he'd had some of his own ever since he met his first love.
Her name was Natasha. She always took good care of Shadow, always making sure loose tufts of fur or gross leaves were kept free from his black fur. She always woke him up whenever the sun came up, and kept him on his pads at all times. She was like a sister in some ways, but before they could become official mates, poor Natasha was killed by a grizzly and her two cubs, who were a little older than Shadow had wished.
But the brute had tried to come passed this all, even though he really wanted to find a new beginning...

"Whatever you make of it," Winter said calmly, his head even with his withers. The mare's utterly confused face made him wonder...had she never heard sch things? Compliments?...ever? His heart dropped a mile for her, and his stomach turned over.
"What is it that makes you so fearful? Why would I even try to attack you?" he said, his ears dropping a bit. The stallion did not try to approach her, he knew she would snap. Only a certain amount of pressure can be applied before one snaps...
He watched her very carefully, his muscles tense under his pearl white hide. But he didn't once think of hurting her...she was hurt enough already.
Quietly the animal retreated, his hooves weaving their way around the life that surrounded him, the life that forever embraced this world. He knew this mare would snap one day, and she would break down and fall at the feet of the devil, a crumpled mess, tattered by the fast-flowing river of life.
For a few moments the stallion searched, a light in the darkness, his white coat reflecting more than his fair share of light, making him glow radiantly in the gloomy forest. Though as he was walking by, a patch of roses made him stop. Their petals splayed out, they were proud to show off their vibrant colors, filling the world with just that little but of happiness it sometimes needs. Thoughtful, inter pause mid-step, staring at the bush, until in one swift movement, he clipped a gorgeous orange, red, and yellow one off the plant with his teeth. Carrying the flower as if it was a child, he held it delicately in his teeth, careful not to drop it on the cold ground.
Once again, he arrived in the clearing by the brook, this time with a rose hanging out of his mouth. More assured than before, the stallion approached the mare, setting the rose delicately down at her feet.
"In the darkest of nights...there's always a glimmer of hope."
