Alyssa pulled into the parking lot of Willowbough County Veterinarian Hospital, her eyes glued to the pavement ahead of her and fingers drumming to the music that came from her iPhone. She turned the steering wheel, pulling the Honda Civic she had been driving since she was sixteen into a side parking spot. The young women knew that clients preferred to park in front of the door and not have to walk across the parking lot. Alyssa hit the brake and shifted the gear to park, before turning the key and pulling it out of the ignition. Dropping the key into the purse, she sighed. Two nights ago she had her boyfriend had gotten into a huge fight and decided to call it quits, after four years of going out. Now she had to drive her Golden Retriever, Sami, to her parents house each morning, for the dog tended to be as destructive as a tornado when left home alone for a long period of time. A tinsy bit of separation anxiety from being chained in the back yard of a vacant house for a week, before a neighbor noticed and told a rescue, at the age of one. Thank god the owner had left him water and a bit of food, or else he might have died. If he was with someone he was fine, that was why he now spent his days with Alyssa's parents while she went to work.
The young women tousled her thick brown hair, before pulling it back with a brown hair band. She opened the door and slid out of the car, locking and shutting the door behind her. The girl's parents happened to live fifteen minutes out of her way, making the trip thirty minutes longer the usual. Still she was abnormally late, thanks to a fallen tree. Things just were not going her way this morning, hopefully the day at the clinic would be better. Hopefully.
Alyssa opened the side door of the clinic, the metallic click of it and the slight squeak of the oiled hedges echoed through the fairly quite office. You could not yet here anxious barks, meows, and hisses from the lobby yet. No one seemed to be active yet. She walked quietly through the building, peeking around every corner, hunting for her two superiors. The women passed the adoption area and poked her head in to se if someone had took care of the dog and cat that called the place a temporary home. She quickly noticed that the friendly black lab mix that usually was kept there was gone. She arched a perfectly plucked brown eyebrow, before walking towards the voice's she heard. "Hey, sorry I am late." She called as she rounded the corner and a man and women came into sight. "I had to drop Sami off at his grandparents house." She said, leting out a light sigh. She was still slightly rattled from the break up and the fact that she had to fight tooth and nail to keep her dog. Her boyfriend had tried to take Sami with him, but Alyssa had fought as hard as she could to keep him. Her mind quickly went back to that night when he was packing up his things and grabbed the dog lead.
"You can take the condo and tv for all I care, but not the freaking dog!'' Alyssa had yelled at him, with mascara streaked and tear stained face. She had then stormed over and yanked the lead out his hand.
She shook her head, freeing herself of the thoughts. She gave Ashely and Norm, one her boss and the other her superior coworker. "So what's up?" She asked, running a hand through the end of her ponytail.
{Yay! I wanted to join earlier, but life is hectic.}
