"Oh!" said Lilli, suprised and embarassed to find herself nose-to-ears with Kous (she was a bit taller than him). She back off quickly but soon bounded back with typical puppy clumsiness to sniff him all over, only to look up when Kous spoke.
Kous was provided with a lovely view of Lilli's chin and couldn't help admiring the soft fur. But, of course, he reminded himself, she's a spoiled house pet. She should have nice fur. But he couldn't help adding to his own thought, not so very spoiled, seeing as how she hasn't eaten. His own stomach rumbled again. Lilli, who was sniffing Kous, apparently fascinated by his smell, looked up as Kous said, "Should we be going now?" with a touch of exasperation in his voice.
"Of course," said Lilli, and gave a quick convulsive leap to release some of her feelings. "Um, wait. Where are we going?"
Kous rolled his eyes. Lilli had the brain power of a smart worm. "Food," he said simply, and turned and flew down the street.
