Storm | Fire Pack | Location: Border | Tagging: Karter
"Because he's a suspicious old wolf that doesn't know when to keep his nose out of something." She replied with a huff. "Things in the Fire pack.. They're not as friendly as they are back home." She frowned, taking pause at the word. Did she still consider the Lightning Pack her home? She sighed. "I can understand, better, comparing the two, why we were brought up thinking Fire wolves were savages and how they in turn, see us as soft." There she went again, speaking like she was a Lightning wolf still. It was one of the reasons she kept quiet in the camp. She didn't want to slip up in front of her new pack mates. Even after three months of leaving, she couldn't break the habit.
When he brought up the two reasons, she perked her ears.
"Sounds like he's got some Fire in him, this lead warrior of yours." She remarked. Did she know the wolf he was talking about? How did they discover she'd gone to the other side, rather than out as a loner. She gave Karter a wary look. She didn't suspect that he'd told on her, she trusted him enough-more than enough-to know he wouldn't do that... At least not at first. But had he kept her secret the entire time?
*Stop that.* She told herself. *You're becoming as suspicious as ol Three-Foot.*
As she continued to listen to his second reason, she became more and more still as he went on. He wanted her to stay, seemed to indicate that she could still go back. She would, too, if she was able. Rue... She had a life in the Fire Pack and she wasn't even aware of who Storm was. Perhaps the best thing she could do for her sister, would be to let her live her own life. And if it came down to a fight between the two packs, she would make sure that she wouldn't hurt her sister amidst it.
"I think I would, but there's something I need to tell you, Karter. Something I should've told you before I left... maybe that would've changed things..." She started, but stopped as a word dropped out of his mouth. Suddenly becoming as still as a stone, Storm held her breath.
His daughter... her mother... this Aala he kept talking about. Her throat became tight and she swallowed the words that would have bubbled out of her otherwise. He wasn't here for her after all. She'd been replaced by some... weakling healer who couldn't even protect her own pups when it counted. She felt tears forming in her eyes and swallowed hard.
"I had no idea... That you had a mate." She spat the word as though it was bitter on her tongue. "Was it while I was still...How long have you..." She looked away, wheels turning in her head. "How..." She stumbled for words and her flanks heaved as she forced air in and our of her lungs, trying to slow her heartbeat, which had picked up in a flurry of emotion, threatening to turn her breathing ragged. "I thought... that you and I were..." She looked up at him, pain written all over her face.
"Were we only friends? Did you never love me once, not once as much as I love you?"
