Fish grinned. She was quite the adept swimmer, after having swum for four and a half years, and it was certainly a favourite pastime for her. "What do you think would happen if we had a swimming race?" She asked. "Even odds?"

Acero flicked his tail. "My den isn’t far. I’ve been here only a few short months myself, so it’s not a lot, but it’s spacious enough there should be room for the both of us, and Octavia and Rain should they find themselves needing a place to stay again. Visitors are ALWAYS welcome at my door."

She laughed and said teasingly, "Your on." She jumped into the river and swan around a bit.

She nodded and said, "When I find my place to build a den, your more than welcome to stay as a visitor."

"To the bend and back, perhaps?" Fish suggested, nodding towards where the river curved several feet away from them. It wasn’t a far distance, it'd be easy going there, but fighting the current to get back would be the real challenge, and she always loved a good challenge!

A small smile came to Acero's face, and he dipped his head. "Thank you, Darkshine. Depending on whereabouts I am, I may just take you up on that. Several wolves here are still territorial about their dens, understandably, but up here, I’ve always believed we all share the same land, we should all be hospitable, willing to share what we have. It’s not like we're running out of land or space or food."

She nodded and said, "That's fine."

"Right then. Whenever you’re ready." While it was certainly true that water slowed someone down, in the case of Fish, it also energized her. She’d trained her muscles to be primed for moving in the water, as she’d spent a good portion of her time in the water. Actually, probably the MAJORITY of her time either in water or in a tree after she had graduated and wasn’t required to train anymore.

"Of course." Acero lofted his head. "Hey Octavia, Rain! Octavia, you might remember Darkshine? She’s new here. She’s gonna stay in the den with me, you guys can still come around and share space, of course. Just thought it was fair to mention!" Then, wordlessly, he started off towards his den at the edge of the forest.

She dipped her head to the two wolves and said, "Hi."

She barked, "THREE!! TWO!!! ONE!!! GO!!!" She swam down into the water and shot forward. The currents were her secret weapon. She kicked her legs in the water and used the sways of the current to propel her forward through some rough spots.

Fish grinned, pushing herself off the riverbed and finding the current, allowing the current to mostly carry her, just as she had planned, and maneuvering her body to move with it, as not to run into rocks or the sides of the river. She kicked with her back legs and pulled herself forward with her front, feeling the tense-and-release of her muscles as she moved. Yes. This was what she had trained herself to do. She was aptly named.

"Let’s head off. They can come if they want, they can stay if they want. It’d be best to start heading back to wherever wolves are spending the night before the afternoon is up. It's midafternoon already," Acero noticed.

She saw Fish and used powerful strokes. She gasped for breath and dove back in.

She nodded and said, "Ya. Hey question. Do you miss anyone down with the Earth dogs?"

Unlike Bailey, who went under, holding her breath, Fish kept her head above water, she’d use up less energy that way. Perhaps she wouldn’t be the first to the finish line, but she’d have more energy for the return journey, when they would have to fight the current on the last leg of their race.

"Huh? Of course. I miss Sira and Shadow, kind of. I mean, they ARE my sisters, and I miss Athena and Mattias, the two best, truest friends a wolf could ever have asked for. I'm glad they’ve found their happiness with each other though," Acero said.
