Striker took a deep breath and looked around. Most of the wolves were trading and talking, and he saw cantania talking to frost over in the corner of the hollow. Turning to Shadow, he smiled. " So, I hear there are new litters of pups in Lightning" he moved his paws.

She kept crying but took a bite of the prey again and she said, "I've already lost Leo to Sandpiper and the pups deserve some wolf better than me with a mate that can be a father to them. I don't have someone other than Leo that I ever liked, and the pups don't have a father. Yes, they have me, but I need someone that is just for me, if u know what I'm saying." She looked up still crying into Blizzard's eyes. She kept pacing and pacing. She sighed and then sat down and kept silently crying.

When Sandpiper spoke, for a dreadful moment, Leo feared she would reject him, although he'd half expected it. Then she told him the opposite. His eyes lit up, and all he could do for a long moment was to simply...stare at her, as if he couldn’t believe what he'd just heard.

They'd flirted and joked back and forth, and Leo had done it in good fun at first. He had flirted with many of the younger wolves, but overtime...it had certainly become real.

"N-No kidding? You’re serious?" He asked, but his voice was a surprised yelp.

"Oh yes! I forgot, Cody also had her litter, and I didn’t want to say anything since I know there are wolves who are still very on board with Max's way of thinking, who I feared may use it as a token against us one day, but you've always struck me as a reasonable wolf," Shadow told him with a small smile. "Aala and Karter found two loner Pups we adopted."

Shadow had stuck to her original plan, which had been tailored to if Max had still been Alppha, but she doubted sharing this with Striker would be harmful.

Blizzard locked his pale eyes on Riley's just for a moment. "Tell me, what will you do if he tells her one day and your suspicions were right?" He wondered. "I do know it’s hard to lose someone you love to someone else. Three times my own mate Mick was stolen away from me."

She replied, "I don't know. He said he would be there, but if he already has a mate, then why bother. He'll have his own life with his mate and if they have pups then he'll have his own family to look after. I feel like Leo is going to do it sooner than waiting for a long time." She sighed and silently cried harder. She stood up and continued to pace. "I've grown close with Rubin from Fire Pack, but he already had two mates and pups with both of them and I've grown close in a friend kind of way. He kind and sweet and is a great father to his pups, but I think of him has my friend and nothing more. Besides, I never want to leave the Pack I grew up in and he is from Fire Pack. I guess there is really no one out there."

"I know Leo, Riley. If he says he'll do something, he'll carry through. I don’t think Leo would take Sandpiper for a mate right away either. He'd graduate first, live a little. Leo's like his mom. He takes things slow and steady, preferring stability over rushing," Blizzard told her.

She nodded and said, "He told me that. When it comes to him and Sandpiper, he might right away. I saw the way they flirted with each other. I think they thought it was for fun, but something deep inside of them told them it wasn't for fun anymore and that it meant something. If nothing else, I thought he would say no on account of his age and something else he didn't mention. There was that thought in the back of my head that he might say he liked me back, but I guess it was just my dream and fantasy."

Sandpiper's tail thumped on the ground as she raised a paw and batted at Leo's shoulder affectionately. "Of course, silly! I wouldn't lie to you!" The Trainee said, giggles edging her voice. She dipped her muzzle for a moment, then raised it back up. Her eyes were soft; understanding, and the smile on her face was full of clear, pure joy.

She said, "It doesn't matter now. My profession of my crush to Leo is a distant dream and it doesn't matter. I need to go check on the pups, I'll be back in a second." She walked in with tears still rolling down her eyes and she noticed they were still sound asleep. She walked out and just sobbed. She didn't know what to do. She kept sobbing and laid down and buried her head in her paws and just sobbed. She thought, all I wanted was to be somewhere in my life with my pups of course, but be with someone I actually liked, not someone that liked me, but I didn't like. She continued to sob into her paws. She said, though it was muffled in her paws, "I find this interesting how he is a pure white like me, and has blue eyes like me."

"I saw firsthand what happens when someone rushes it, Riley. I rushed it with my own mate, and well, as a result, we...never got the chance to think of anyone else first. Mick ran off three times with other big, strong males. The Warrior Axel, then we thought my own brother flirted with him, and for a brief time, Angel flirted with him, stole his soft heart. We’re still suffering from that last one. In fact, I haven’t seen him since then, come to think of it," He realized, frowning. "He and I both suffered because of rushing it. Leo ended up being our counsellor. If he rushes things after hearing what happened with me and Mick, by the sky-dogs, I would be shocked," Blizzard told her.

"There’s always hope out there though. Never give up on things. As long as you have hope in your heart, there’s always a chance things might work." Blizzard paused. There was another way around this, but he didn’t know if it was a good idea, or if it was even possible at that point. Then he nodded as she stood and went off. Even as we speak though...she loses that hope. That’s the only time all is lost.

Catania nodded slowly. "I know, but you know...not everyone believes it was quite...natural," She told him. "Mother looks at you weird. Like she thinks it’s somehow your fault. I'm worried...she might try to spread rumours at some point, try to get you in trouble because you couldn’t save him," She admitted.

He did his best. He doesn’t deserve the looks I've seen a few wolves give him, like he'd failed to save papa on purpose. Catania silently fumed. How in any way was that FAIR?

Leo had no idea where to go from there. What happened, what to say or what to do. He'd never thought he'd ever have his chance at a romantic love. Family love, sure, but this...this was FAR different. He thought of Riley and immediately felt bad. She'd told him of her feelings for him, and yet that very same day, he went to profess his own crush to Sandpiper. Was that low? Probably, but it had felt like the right time.

"I know, I know. I just...didn’t expect it, y'know?"
